Evers orders flags to half-staff in honor of Lake Mills fire chief

The flags of the United States and Wisconsin will fly at half-staff on Sunday in honor of Lake Mills Fire Chief Todd Yandre. Gov. Tony Evers announced the order Friday. Yandre passed away suddenly during a cardiac event last week. He was a 41-year veteran of the Lake Mills Fire Department. "Chief Yandre was by all accounts a caring and loyal friend, mentor, coach, husband, father, and grandfather who was dedicated to serving his community," Evers said.

Tenants displaced by fire at Green Bay apartment building

Two people were displaced by a fire in an apartment building on Green Bay’s east side Thursday. At about 9:45 p.m., Green Bay Metro firefighters were called to a three-unit building at 1100 N. Van Buren St. Crews found smoke in the upper and lower apartments. They used thermal imaging cameras to find fire within walls and void spaces.

Holmen Area Fire Department appoints new Fire Chief

The Holmen Area Fire Department is getting a new chief. The board of directors for the department voted unanimously to appoint Ryan Ostreng as its chief. Ostreng will step into the role on April 3rd. He's currently a captain and deputy city emergency management director for the City of Rochester, Minnesota.

La Crosse Fire Department Division Chief of Training retiring after nearly 30 years

After 29 years in the La Crosse Fire Department, Division Chief of Training Todd Adams will retire on Friday, the LCFD announced Thursday. Adams joined the La Crosse Fire Department in 1994 as a firefighter recruit. He went on to be a leader of both local and state Urban Search and Rescue teams, as well as become a member of a nationally recognized Extrication Team, HAZMAT team and Water Rescue team.

Parking structure partially collapses at Bayshore mall in Milwaukee County

A parking structure at Bayshore mall in Glendale partially collapsed Thursday afternoon, damaging two cars but leading to no apparent injuries. "We're fairly confident there is no one in that space," North Shore Fire Department Chief Robert Whitaker told reporters, as authorities were able to view security video and spoke with owners of the two damaged vehicles.

Firefighters battle house fire in the Village of Elderon

Firefighters are continuing to battle a house fire on State Highway 153, in the Village of Elderon this morning. State Highway 153 west of State Highway 49 is currently closed because of the fire. Family pets lost in Parkland house fire

Multiple family pets perished in Tuesday’s house fire in Parkland, Wisconsin. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says the family was not at home when the fire started. A large plume of smoke could be seen for miles, with crews on scene before 2:00pm. The fire happened on the 6200 block of Way Road.

Smoldering porch fire causes minor damage in Fond du Lac

A smoldering fire on an open porch caused minor damage to a residence on Tuesday in the City of Fond du Lac. According to a release, on February 21, 2023, at around 4:30 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue was sent to the 200 block of Ellis Street for a report of a porch fire. After arriving at the house, firefighters encountered a smoldering fire on an open porch.

Wisconsin fire officials hope proposed expansion of youth training grants will build next generation of firefighters

When Josh Bostedt was hired as chief of Oconto Fire & Rescue almost three years ago, he was interested in expanding fire education from middle school students to high school kids. Bostedt said he hoped letting students try their hand at some fire-fighting skills would not only increase awareness of fire prevention but get the teenagers thinking about pursuing firefighting after graduation.

Retired Mukwonago firefighter's home burned, dog killed

A Mukwonago man put out fires for decades, and on Sunday, Feb. 19, his own home burned. In retired firefighter Gregg Jablonoski's time of need, the community is returning the favor. "It was a unique house," said Jablonoksi. Tucked away on a hill on Beulah Road in Mukwonago, the home was a total loss after Sunday's fire.

2 displaced in Madison house fire

A fire at a home in Madison's Greenbush neighborhood Tuesday afternoon displaced two people, the city's fire department said. A passerby reported seeing smoke while walking past the home in the 1100 block of Drake Street around 1:45 p.m., according to a Madison Fire Department incident report. The man then knocked on the door to alert anyone inside before calling 911; no one was inside at the time the fire broke out.

Fire claims Hahn Trucking building in the town of Ripon

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire Sunday evening in the town of Ripon resulted in the total loss of a building for a Ripon business, but no injuries. The Ripon Area Fire District (RAFD) was dispatched to Hahn Trucking, N8405 Douglas St., at 4:56 p.m. and the first unit arrived at 4:58 p.m. First-arriving police and fire units reported a building heavily involved with fire and began a defensive fire operation to protect exposures and assist the owner, Dave Hahn, in moving trucks and vehicles away from the fire.

Northeast Wisconsin fire departments experiencing shortage of firefighters and EMS

Fire departments across the state are sounding the alarm. They're dealing with a shortage of volunteer and full time firefighters, causing some worry. The Grand Chute Fire Department says the shortage is real. "In Wisconsin, we definitely have an issue with paramedics and firefighters in short supply," said Grand Chute Fire Chief Steve Denzien.

Brown County Dispatchers use text, video to improve emergency response

VIDEO: Brown County dispatchers now have the ability to text and live video chat during emergency 911 calls. With a push of a button, Brown County dispatchers can now send a live video link to help in emergency situations with a new program called Prepared Live. “They’ll be able to turn on that live stream… and we’ll be able to look for some landmarks or things like that, that we may be able to better send better locations to send responders to,” said Cullen Peltier, Brown County’s director of Public Safety Communications.

People in Lake Mills are grieving for Fire Chief Todd Yandre after he died suddenly in the line of duty. Family and friends remember their fallen hero at a place close to his heart, a place where he provided decades of public service. "His passion was the fire department and training future firefighters," Yandre's brother, Mark Yandre, said.

2 homes damaged in Milwaukee fire

Firefighters on Friday, Feb. 17 responded to the scene of a house near 41st and Burleigh in Milwaukee. The call came in shortly after 4 a.m. A house started on fire and spread to a second residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious. Two individuals reported minor injuries.
