Follow Up: The Braising Pan in West Bend a 'total loss' after catching fire

The Braising Pan restaurant, 1100 N Main St, has burned down after a fire broke out inside it on Thursday morning. According to a press release from the West Bend Fire Department, they received a call at 1:14 a.m. about black smoke coming from the restaurant from a cleaner, who was on scene and able to exit the building.

Madison fraternity house catches fire from unattended fire pit

A fraternity house in downtown Madison caught fire overnight after an outdoor firepit was left unattended, according to the City of Madison Fire Department (MFD). MFD spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said firefighters responded to reports of smoke and flames coming from the back of a house on Langdon Street shortly before 1 a.

7 firefighters who died from COVID-19 will be added to Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial

irefighters from across the state will gather Saturday to honor seven of their own who gave their lives in the line of duty during the past year. Each October, a ceremony is held at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial in Ben Hansen Park in Wisconsin Rapids that includes the reading of the names on the memorial, playing of bagpipes, choral presentations and the traditional Firefighter's Bell Ceremony.

10 departments, 30k gallons used on large-scale barn fire in Winnebago County

VIDEO: A large-scale barn fire in the Town of Clayton on Wednesday afternoon drew help from ten fire departments in the area. According to the Town of Clayton Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched around 12:20 p.m. on September 28 and stated that heavy smoke was visible when crews were on the way to the scene.

Fire extinguished at West Bend restaurant; no injuries reported

Firefighters on Thursday morning, Sept. 29 responded to the scene of a fire at The Braising Pan restaurant in West Bend. The call came in around 1:15 a.m. The two-alarm fire was out by 4 a.m. The structure sustained major damage. No injuries were reported. No additional details have been released – including the cause of the fire or the amount of damage sustained.

Multiple agencies respond to fire at Fort Atkinson home

Over a dozen agencies responded to a fire late Wednesday morning at a home in Fort Atkinson. The Fort Atkinson Fire Department responded to the fire on the 400 block of Edwards Street and called in other departments to assist. Volunteer firefighters and members of the Fort Atkinson Police Department were also on scene.

Crews respond to fire on Green Bay’s west side

Firefighters worked to put out a fire Wednesday morning as smoke was coming from the second story of a residence on Green Bay’s west side. Multiple crews responded to the 1100 block of Minahan Street for a reported fire. There was smoke coming from the second story of the residence. Local 5 did have a crew at the scene and firefighters did set up ladders to the second story of the residence.

City Council approves grant funding for Wausau Fire Department

Wausau Fire Department will be getting some new hires. Tuesday night, the city council approved grant funding for the fire department. The more than 3 million dollar grant will help the department hire nine new full-time firefighter positions beginning next year. It will help sustain those positions for three years, something Fire Chief Bob Barteck said will help get them to full staff and meet the workload, following an increase in calls.

Saukville asphalt plant incident; worker suffers serious injuries

A man was seriously hurt on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in what fire crews call an industrial accident at an asphalt plant in Saukville. The plant is located on Lakeland Road. The investigation found a 53-year-old man from Portage was transferring heated oil used in the production of asphalt from a tanker truck to a holding tank when a failure occurred.

Cause of Brown Deer apartment fire under investigation

Firefighters on Tuesday night, Sept. 27 responded to the scene of an apartment complex fire on 49th Street near Deer Run Drive in Brown Deer. The call came in around 9:22 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found smoke showing from a two-story multifamily apartment complex. Crews were able to locate the fire in a second-floor bedroom and bring it under control.

Oshkosh Fire Department conducts hazmat training

The Oshkosh Fire Department conducted a hazmat training session to prepare firefighters in the event of an emergency involving dangerous waste. As a part of the training, the fire department needed to find a way to stop the leak in a tanker. According to firefight Kevin Sawicki, they used a pop-up pool to contain the leak and then put a cap on the valve to keep the substance from leaking further.

Waupun Officials Suggest Possible Referendum To Cover Expanding Ambulance, Fire Service

Waupun residents could see a referendum next year to help cover the costs of expanding its ambulance service. The city recently launched an Emergency Medical Responder program, which is currently being bolstered by trained “paid-on-call volunteers.” Mayor Rohn Bishop says the program started to help cut down on wait times.

No people hurt, but two dogs perish in La Crosse house fire

No one is injured but two dogs die in a fire at a northside La Crosse home Sunday evening. The La Crosse Fire Department was called at 7:09 p.m. to 2218 Loomis St. for the fire. Smoke was coming from the first floor of the residence when firefighters arrived on the scene. The fire was located in the kitchen area.

Oshkosh Fire Department picks up statewide honor

VIDEO: The Oshkosh Fire Department picks up a statewide honor. The department is named the Emergency Medical Services of the Year by the state EMS Association. The group notes the OFD work in reducing falls in homes by the elderly. The department offered incentives for people to turn in their throw rugs and are doing home visits to determine fall risks.

Cottage Grove Fire Department loses firefighter after battle with PTSD

The Cottage Grove Fire Department announced on Facebook that firefighter Nate Walker passed away Sunday morning after a long battle with PTSD. Lt. Jason Kudma said Walker was a dedicated husband, father, firefighter and veteran who always put his community and family first. Funeral arrangement and additional support for Walker's wife, Katie, and two young children will be shared once details are available.

Town of Burke fire causes $100,000 in damage

Sun Prairie Fire & Rescue is investigating the cause of a Saturday, Sept. 24 fire that caused $100,000 in damage at a Town of Burke commercial property. Assistant Fire Chief Thane Westermeyer said on Saturday afternoon, SPFR responded to the report of a commercial structure fire in the 4600 block of Dovetail Drive in the Town of Burke.

Milwaukee car fire; body with gunshot wound found inside vehicle

Police are investigating a fatal shooting near 15th and Congress in Milwaukee early Sunday, Sept. 25. A 26-year-old man died from his injuries. Initially, Milwaukee firefighters were called to the area for a car fire. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters located a body inside the vehicle. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene.

Racine Fire Department awarded $2.7M to hire 9 new firefighters

The city of Racine has been awarded $2,743,227 to hire additional firefighters. The money was awarded from FEMA through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER). SAFER grants were created to increase or maintain the number of trained firefighters available in communities in an effort to reduce response times.

Sheboygan County Communities to Receive Another Round of ARPA Funding for EMS Providers

Governor Tony Evers has announced that even more ARPA funding is being distributed to communities around the state. Sheboygan County communities will be getting nearly $560,000 which is to be used for emergency services, specifically EMS. The largest chunk of that money will be going to the City of Sheboygan Fire Department, which is slated to get over $116,000.
