La Crosse: Drug needle pickup may shift from fire department to volunteers

VIDEO: The responsibility for picking up discarded drug needles in La Crosse now lies with the Fire Department, but health agencies are discussing the possibility of a shift. The AIDS Resource Center has a needle exchange program, which works as a harm reduction strategy to prevent disease. Although most of the needles the center gives out make it back, not all are properly disposed-and some are left outside.

Small Janesville fire could displace two duplex tenants

Two tenants could be displaced after a small duplex fire near Memorial Drive on Thursday morning, Deputy Fire Chief Bill Ruchti said. Something was left cooking on the stove at the upstairs residence at 815 Harding St. before 11 a.m., causing the fire. Firefighters used an extinguisher to put out the flames within about 15 minutes, Ruchti said.

Milwaukee Home Damaged by Late Night Fire

Three people escaped a house fire unharmed late last night in Milwaukee. The fire was reported to the Milwaukee Fire Department around 11:55 PM in a two-story wood frame house at N 21st Street and W Concordia Avenue. According to fire officials, the fire was located on the second floor of the home.

Wausau Police: Cabaret bar fire could be arson

Police are investigating an early Thursday morning fire at The Cabaret Bar as a possible arson. Wausau Police Lt. Melinda Pauls said a caller reported flames and the sound of glass shattering at around 5 a.m. Thursday at The Cabaret on Rib Mountain Drive. Pauls said the bar was closed at the time of the fire but a witness saw someone walking near the tavern around the same time, which is one of the reasons investigators are considering the fire to be suspicious.

Porch fire extinguished at Washington Ave. building in Racine

PHOTO: A portion of Washington Avenue was temporarily shut down Wednesday afternoon after a small porch fire broke out at a multi-family dwelling. The fire was reported at 1:35 p.m. at 1010 Washington Ave., between 10th and Racine streets. That entire section of Washington (Highway 20) was closed for about 30 minutes as the Racine Fire Department battled the fire.

Beloit Fire Department OT exceeds budget

The Beloit Fire Department has a history of too much overtime and too many unnecessary emergency calls. The Fire Department is projected to spend $320,800 in overtime which is $60,000 more than budgeted but is the approximate total spent each of the last four years, Fire Chief Brad Liggett said. The department spent $320,345 in 2015 overtime and was budgeted $295,000.

Home damaged in Wausau fire

VIDEO: A fire damaged a home in Wausau early Wednesday morning. Dozens of firefighters were at the scene on Pearson Street. The blaze was called in just before 4 a.m. Authorities from the Marathon County Sheriff's Department say the family was able to get out of the home safely. The families two pet rabbits also made it out safely, but their bird was not as fortunate.

Milwaukee Fire Department announces tribute events for 15th anniversary of 9/11

Two killed in Vernon County house fire

Police are investigating two deaths that occurred after a fatal fire in Hilllsboro early Monday morning. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office received two phone calls around 6:53 and 6:56 A.M. from citizens driving by the residence and reporting a fully engulfed structure fire that was almost burnt to the ground.

Sun Prairie leaders make case to add fire, police, EMS personnel for safety

Fire association hopes for agreement with Dodge County

Dodge County and local fire departments may be closer to an agreement about purchasing water safety equipment over the next few years. Two Rivers bar destroyed in overnight fire

VIDEO: Crews responded to an overnight fire at Hog Wild Bar in Two Rivers. Crews got the call around midnight to a bar on the 2500 block of Woodland Drive. Fire officials activated Mavis which is common for a fire of this size. The fire chief said they were able to get the fire out and under control around 3 a.

Milwaukee dad accused of drowning 3-month-old after fight

A man with the same name and date of birth had been the subject of a domestic violence restraining order petition filed in Milwaukee County Circuit Court in April 2015. But the suspect was not properly served, and the court denied the restraining order and dismissed the case. It was not clear Sunday whether the petitioner who sought the restraining order was the mother of the child.

Prank Call for Downed Plane in the Town of Norrie

A prank call of a downed plane drew the attention of many EMS services for a wasted effort Friday afternoon. Dispatchers received a 911 call that there was a plane down in the Town of Norrie, but the cell signal dropped during the call. A medical helicopter, the Hatley fire department, and the Marathon County Sheriff's Department were called in to search, but were unable to locate a plane.

Plum City warning sirens will be hooked to Pierce County

When severe storms rolled through Plum City Tuesday, July 5, the fire whistle didn’t go off in town; it wasn’t hooked up to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, who can set sirens off remotely, said Plum City Fire Chief PJ Hines. Hines and firefighter Ron Anderson told Plum City Village Board members July 11 that firefighters don’t receive any more advanced notice than residents when it comes to severe weather warnings.

Eau Claire Fire Department announces new fire chief

The Eau Claire Police and Fire Commission is pleased to announce, after conducting a nationwide search, that Mr. Christian M. Bell has been appointed to the position of Fire Chief for the City of Eau Claire. Mr. Bell started his firefighting career as a volunteer in 1995 and joined the Eau Claire Fire Department in 1997 as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

Milwaukee firefighters union chief played role in high-rise zoning fight

The Milwaukee Common Council's rejection this week of a $55 million apartment high-rise was largely the result of opposition from people living in a neighboring east side condo building. But the neighboring condo owners were joined in their campaign by a unexpected figure: the president of the local firefighters union, who lives 13 miles from the proposed project site.
