Christmas tree caught fire inside home near Poynette

A Christmas tree caught fire in a home near Poynette early Saturday morning. The Poynette Dekorra Fire Department responded to a single-family home for a Christmas tree on fire on Tipperary Road in the Township of Dekorra just before 4 a.m. Poynette Fire and EMS, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Alliant Energy, and MG&E assisted at the scene.

Wausau firefighters train for ice rescue situations

VIDEO: Several members of the Wausau Fire Department were seen training for how to rescue people from icy waters Friday. The exercise was part of the department's regular training regiment, in an effort to keep everyone's skills sharp and apply knowledge in a simulated event. It took place at D.C. Everest Park on Lake Wausau, where the ice was projected to be around an inch thick, where there was ice.

Crews save one occupant after being trapped by fire in Sheboygan County

The Sheboygan Fire Department saved one person after being trapped on the rear porch during a Friday morning fire. According to a release, around 7:00 a.m. on December 2, the Sheboygan County 911 Center received a report of a residential structure fire on the 500 block of Geele Avenue with one person trapped.

4 dogs killed in Jackson County house fire

Four dogs were killed in a house fire in Jackson County Thursday morning. The incident happened just after 11:00 a.m. in the township of Northfield. Hixton Fire & Rescue received a report of a structure fire on Winger Rd. On scene, firefighters found a two-story home engulfed in flames. The home is a total loss.

Driver seriously injured in crash into Wisconsin River at Sauk City, authorities say

Adriver was seriously injured in a crash off Highway 12 into the Wisconsin River at Sauk City on Thursday morning, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said. At about 7:40 a.m. Thursday, a 50-year-old man from Circle Pines, Minnesota, was driving a 2019 Honda Passport west on Highway 12 when he drove off the road, hit a sign and landed in the Wisconsin River, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Elise Schaffer said in a statement.

Kenosha woman renovates 1915 firehouse into a home

A regular home just wasn't interesting enough for one Kenosha woman. So instead of the white picket fence or home in a cul-de-sac, she bought a firehouse built in 1915, fixed it up, and has been happily living in it ever since. Rhonda Dutton wanted to find a unique home, just like her sister Terry Evans.

Fire on eastbound Beltline in Madison slows traffic during morning commute

Widespread Green Bay emergency-alert glitch could lead to a better alert system

Green Bay’s east side and, unintentionally, other parts of WBAY’s viewing area, were put on high alert Tuesday night after a gas leak prompted authorities to issue an emergency alert through cell phones. Authorities intended to alert to reach fewer than 20 homes in the immediate area of a gas leak on Edgewood Drive near Hillside Lane, advising families nearby to evacuate with their pets.

Grand Chute Fire Department names new Fire Chief

The Town of Grand Chute Police and Fire Commission (PFC) named the new Fire Chief for the Grand Chute Fire Department on Wednesday. Following a nationwide search, the Commission unanimously selected Chief Steven Denzien as the next Fire Chief of Grand Chute. Chief Denzien had been serving as the Two Rivers Fire Department’s Fire Chief since 2019 and brings over 29 years of fire service experience, including at the Lisbon and Brookfield Fire Departments, to Grand Chute.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department: 1st red bulb on wreath after residential fire

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department switched its first bulb to red on its Holiday Wreath Program. The Holiday Wreath Program is a public awareness campaign that runs from Thanksgiving Day until January 1, 2023, and consists of a wreath with all green lights. If a residential fire in the city of Green Bay happens, one light will be changed to red.

Coulee Region Fire Departments team up for 'Keep the Wreath Green' campaign

Fire departments in the Coulee Region are taking part in the 12th annual 'Keep the Wreath Green' fire prevention campaign. "The day after Thanksgiving, we put a wreath up, and it's covered in green lights, outside of City Hall here and in every one of our surrounding communities," said Onalaska Fire Department firefighter and EMT Jack Hubbard.

House in Door County suffers massive damage after fire

Firefighters in Door County had their hands full last weekend as they battled a massive fire in the town of Gibraltar. According to the Gibraltar Fire-Rescue Association Inc., on Sunday at around 5:30 p.m., crews were sent to a structure fire located on the 9200 block of Sugar Bush Court. Upon arrival, the home, which was unoccupied, was found to be fully engulfed by flames, so a Mutual Aid Box Alarm was activated for additional resources.

Eagle River Fire Department participating in the 'Keep the Wreath Green' campaign

The Eagle River Fire Department is participating in the "Keep the Wreath Green" fire safety campaign. From now until New Year's Day, a bulb will be changed from green to red for every structure fire that the Eagle River Fire Department responds to. The goal of this program is to keep the wreath green.

La Crosse firefighters get hands on practice

VIDEO: The La Crosse Fire Department is taking advantage of three buildings that the City acquired for redevelopment. Using controlled burns, firefighters practiced real-life fire scenarios in three properties on South Avenue. The crews have been training in them for the last couple of months. They will continue to keep using them for training until the buildings are torn down.

Follow Up: Candle may be to blame for Oconomowoc house fire

VIDEO: A shell of a house remains after a late-night fire burned through a home near Concord Road and Wisconsin Avenue in Oconomowoc. Western Lakes Fire District reports the first calls came in just after 1 a.m. Monday. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, heavy flames were seen from the front and back of the first floor of the home.

Head-on collision on U.S. Highway 18 in western Wisconsin kills two

A crash on Sunday left two people dead after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 18 in western Wisconsin. According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, around 11:22 a.m., deputies were notified of a two-vehicle crash in the township of Bridgeport, between the bridges of Prairie du Chien and Marquette, Iowa.

Firefighters extinguish shed fire in Almond caused by wood burner

Firefighters put out a shed fire believed to have started by a nearby outdoor wood burner in Almond on Monday morning. Early Monday morning, a homeowner reported a fire in their shed outside. When firefighters arrived on scene, they quickly extinguished the fire before it spread to any other structures.

Remembering the Wagner Lanes Bowling Alley fire 45 years later

5 years ago, Eau Claire saw one of the worst fires in its history. Early in the morning on November 27, 1977, a fire destroyed Wagner's Lanes Bowling Alley in what firefighters at the time called the worst fire in Eau Claire history. The fire caused around $6 million in damages. There were no casualties but the building was a total loss.

Man, dog die in Grand Chute duplex fire

A man and his dog died Sunday in a fire at a Grand Chute duplex. The name of the victim has not been released as of Monday morning. The fire also displaced three other adults. Sunday, November 27, 2022, at approximately 7:50 pm, The Grand Chute Fire Department was sent about 7:50 p.m. Sunday to the 600 block of South Olson Avenue for a report of black smoke and fire inside the home, according to the Grand Chute Fire Department.

Crews fight residential fire in Oconomowoc

Crews fought a fire near Concord and Wisconsin in Oconomowoc early Monday morning. Oconomowoc police said in a statement they are helping the West Lakes Fire District with a residential structure fire at that address. There are some traffic closures due to the fire.
