FedEx truck, milk hauler collide; thousands of gallons of milk spilled in Dodge County

VIDEO: A collision between a FedEx truck and a milk truck in Dodge County caused thousands of gallons of milk to spill onto the roadway and into a culvert on Thursday morning, Sept. 22. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office responded to the wreck on County Highway P at County Highway N in the Township of Rubicon around 9:45 a.

Corn chopper catches fire in Clayton, firefighters use 5k gallons of water to extinguish

5,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish a corn chopper that caught fire in a field on Wednesday in the Town of Clayton. According to a Facebook post, Clayton Fire Rescue was dispatched for a report of a corn chopper on fire out in a field. Heavy black smoke was visible as crews were en route.

Follow Up: Mayo Clinic partners with La Crosse Fire Department under new fitness program

A new collaboration between Mayo Clinic Health System and the La Crosse Fire Department is aimed at improving each firefighter’s strength and well being. As part of the program, a Mayo Clinic athletic trainer, research scientist and physician, all of whom are affiliated with the health system’s sports medicine department, will conduct tests to assess the strength, speed and endurance of La Crosse firefighters in order to pinpoint areas of improvement.

Wisconsin Rapids honors fallen firefighter

VIDEO: Riley Huiras was a volunteer firefighter at the Grand Rapids department, just outside Wisconsin Rapids. Huiras died tragically after a medical emergency on August 3 at just 20 years old. Today, the Wisconsin Rapids community came together in support of his family and hosted a dunk tank fundraiser.

Barn catches fire near Racine County highway

Firefighters are investigating what caused a barn to catch fire near Interstate 94 and Seven Mile Road. It started just before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Raymond Fire and Rescue units arrived at the scene to find a small shed at the rear of the property fully involved in fire and extending to a pole barn.

Town of Beloit fire station to be rebuilt by 2024

The demolition and reconstruction of the Town of Beloit Fire Station 2 is expected to be complete by the fall of 2024, according to township officials. “We are currently planning for the old Fire Station 2 to be demolished in September 2023 with the new station substantially completed in September 2024,” said Tim Wellnitz, Town of Beloit Administrator.

Workers evacuated roof during fire on East Washington in Madison

Workers evacuated off the roof of a building when a structure fire started on East Washington Wednesday night. Five workers were able to evacuate the roof of the Research Products building at the corner of Brearly and Main St. around 6:15 p.m., the Madison Fire Department said. The workers were able to self-evacuate to an adjacent building.

Governor Tony Evers talks Emergency Medical Services at fire station in Chippewa Falls

Governor Tony Evers visited with firefighters at the fire station in Chippewa Falls on Tuesday, as part of campaign stop touting his plans to support and stabilize Wisconsin’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system. The governor announced the use of federal COVID funds to support local EMS services, including $90,000 and over 400 individual grants.

Oneida County receives fire suppression device

The Oneida County Sheriff's Department is the latest to get some new firefighting technology. The Rhinelander Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons donated the department a fire suppression device, which law enforcement can use if they get on scene of a fire before fire crews do. It works by pulling a pin, throwing it into an enclosed space engulfed in flames, and it snuffs out the fire within minutes.

La Crosse Fire Department hosts their annual 'Fill The Boot' fundraiser

Firefighters from the La Crosse Fire Department and other local departments took to the streets to raise money for their annual 'Fill The Boot' fundraiser. The firefighters stood on the corners of 4th and La Crosse Street collection donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The money raised will go towards treatment and research for Muscular Dystrophy; a muscular disease that causes muscle weakness and decreased mobility over time making it difficult to do every tasks.

‘It’s really a win-win’: Madison Fire Department recruits veterans to fill job openings

The Madison Fire Department on Tuesday hosted a job fair aimed at recruiting military veterans to fill the department’s vacancies. Assimilating into civilian life can be a challenge for veterans, but working for the fire department allows them to continue serving their community. Becoming firefighters is not just a seamless transition, but veterans are often the best candidates the department can find, Fire Chief Chris Carbon said.

Former Waupun Fire Chief Looks Back On Tenure With The City

Mosinee Fire, EMS Recieves State Grant Funding

Governor Tony Evers toured the state on Tuesday announcing nearly $32 million in grant funding to over 440 EMS districts to help with staffing and equipment needs. Interim Fire Chief Adam Grahn says he plans to split the funds up between purchasing some new equipment and offering incentives to new hires and current staffers, both areas where the department could use some help.

Waukesha woman dead, struck by SUV while trying to cross I-94

One person is dead after a crash on Interstate-94 near Pewaukee on Monday evening, Sept. 19. A news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol says around 8 p.m. Monday, a trooper was dispatched to a single vehicle versus pedestrian fatality crash. Several units with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, City of Pewaukee Police Department, and City of Pewaukee Fire Department were also on scene to assist.

5 Mile Tower Fire to be featured in webinar on Sept. 21 at the Forest History Association of Wisconsin

The Forest History Association of Wisconsin will offer a free webinar at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Author Bill Matthias of Wascott will present the program based on the story told in his 2010 book “Monster Fire at Minong,” published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press. The account of this fire has been told and re-told as a “success story” in many forms.

Garbage can fire causes $20,000 in damage to garage in Green Bay

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to a garage fire Saturday morning around 8:55 AM at 1280 Chicago Street. Upon arrival, the Battalion chief found a garbage can on fire; the flames spread into the detached garage and extended into the roof. Firefighters were quickly able to stop the fire from spreading any further inside the garage, or the car inside.

Piece of machinery catches fire inside County Materials Corp in Madison

A piece of machinery caught fire inside of County Materials Corp in Madison Saturday night, according to a news release from the Madison Fire Department. Crews found the piece of machinery on a 3rd floor mezzanine "fully involved" in fire when they responded just after 7:15 p.m. A sprinkler head activated and kept the fire contained until crews were able to extinguish it.

Flames contained to kitchen in Beaver Dam house fire

Beaver Dam firefighters were dispatched to S. Center Street on Friday evening, Sept. 16 for a house fire. When the emergency responders arrived on the scene, they found smoke coming from the front of the house and fire beginning to come out a rear window. A news release says crews were able to quickly knock down and extinguish the fire and keep the fire contained to the kitchen.

One man is dead after his motorcycle was hit from behind in Port Edwards

One man is dead after a vehicle hit his motorcycle on State 54 early Friday morning. At 2:26 a.m. Friday, a caller reported a motorcycle was going west on State 54 when it approached Green Grove Lane, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Office. Deputies determined a vehicle traveling behind the motorcycle hit the back of it as they approached the intersection.

Oak Creek Fire Department offers 'Narcan Hope Kits' to combat overdose epidemic

Opioid related overdoses continue to rise in Milwaukee County. The county’s medical examiner reports that 80% of confirmed drug deaths this year involved fentanyl, with the county on track for 700+ drug related deaths this year. Now, local law enforcement agencies like the Oak Creek Fire Department are working to slow down those numbers by handing out Narcan Hope Kits.
