Lodi Area EMS and Poynette-Dekorra EMS departments receive federal grants amid funding struggles

The Lodi Area EMS and Poynette-Dekorra EMS are each receiving over $100,000 in federal grants, but long-term challenges remain in funding and staffing. “We are significantly busier than we have been in past years,” said Lodi Area EMS Chief Russell Schafer. “We have averaged 70-ish calls a month for the last few months, which is abnormally high.

$2,500 signing bonuses offered to Chippewa Falls’ Fire and EMS workers

The City of Chippewa Falls Fire and EMS will begin offering a signing bonus to new employees immediately in an effort to improve recruitment numbers. The signing bonus will total $2,500, in two payments. New hires will receive $1,250 up front and $1,250 after 12 months of work for the department. “We’re not looking for average, we’re looking for the best quality candidates we can get,” said Lee Douglas, fire chief at Chippewa Falls Fire and Emergency Services.

Fire program at Wisconsin Dells High School off to strong start

Pigs die in barn fire in Shawano County

Crews spent the overnight hours battling a barn fire in Shawano County. The fire chief says there were pigs inside the barn at the time At about 1 a.m., crews were called to the the scene in the town of Angelica. 50 years at the controls: Ron Feder celebrates a half century of service with the Ripon Area Fire District

“I’m going to give the city of Ripon 25 years of my life.” That is what Ron Feder told his wife, Dawn, in 1972 when he joined the Ripon Fire Department. Fifty years later, he is still going. Feder is celebrating a half century of service this year with what now is the Ripon Area Fire District. Fort McCoy DES Fire Department renews special accreditation

The Fort McCoy Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Fire Department was reaccredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International for the third time earlier in 2022. Fire destroys Merrill home, kills family pet

A fire left several people without a home in Merrill Monday night. It happened just before 7:15 on French Ridge Road. Officials with the Pine River Fire Department report they arrived to find parts of the first floor engulfed in flames. Firefighters say the roof had to be removed at one point, exposing a large portion of the fire that had extended to the attic.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department announces 2022 Fire Prevention Week campaign

City of Eau Claire asking voters to approve public safety referendum on November ballot

The City of Eau Claire is asking voters to support an increase in taxes to help pay for more public safety workers. The city’s police department says over the past 10 years, calls for service have gone up 68%. The department also reported that its officers worked 3,740 hours of overtime in 2021, an increase of 450% from 2018.

Child goes for help after car crashed into Madison garage

A young child needed to be the one who went to get help late Sunday morning after a crash left the driver pinned inside a vehicle. According to the Madison Fire Department, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went through a fence near the S. Stoughton Road and Pflaum Road intersection and crashed into a large garage.

Two displaced after house fire in Appleton

Two people have been displaced after a house fire in Appleton early Monday. At about 1 a.m., the Appleton Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 200 block of E. Wentworth Lane. Flames were coming from the back of the home. Crews attacked the fire from outside while others searched the home.

Westby-Christiana Fire Department holds open house for new fire engine

One local fire department kicked off Fire Prevention Week with a brand new engine. The Westby-Christiana Fire Department debuted its 2022 Rosenbauer Commander Engine today at its open house. This engine was purchased by the department, and replaces one from 1992. It seats eight people, can hold 2,500 gallons of water and can pump up to 1,500 gallons per minute.

Fire Truck Parade in Madison educates and inspires

Fire trucks from across Dane County paraded down State Street Sunday in celebration of the annual Fire Truck Parade. Battle of the Badges in Madison raises money for NextGen Responders Academy

The community turned up in big numbers for Madison Police and Fire's third annual Battle of the Badges Saturday. House Fire North Of Waupun Draws Heavy Response

At around 8:20 AM the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a call from a home owner at W11455 Longview Road, between County Highway M and Savage Road north of Waupun, reporting there was a fire in the house. Car falls off Milwaukee viaduct during police pursuit; 3 dead in fiery crash, pedestrian injured

Three people are dead after a police pursuit ended in a crash with the suspect vehicle going over the 16th Street Viaduct and catching fire on Thursday. According to Milwaukee police, officers assigned to District 2 pursued a vehicle involved in drug dealing and reckless driving shortly before 6 p.m.

Longtime United Fire District Chief Berger passes away at 72

Reid Berger, a longtime member of the Baldwin community as the United Fire and Rescue District Chief and a physician’s assistant, passed away Sept. 30 at the age of 72 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Peace Lutheran Church with the funeral service starting at 11 a.

No one hurt in Osseo house fire

No one is hurt after a fire at a home in Osseo on Wednesday. The Osseo Fire Department said that the fire happened Wednesday evening at a home on 9th Street. At the time of the fire, a woman and her two children were at the home, but were able to get out safely, the Fire Department said. A neighbor saw smoke and called 911, and crews responded just before 5 p.
