The Madison Fire Department (MFD) responded to a report of an unattended cooking fire that led to $100,000 in damages on the city's north side Saturday. Bernadette Galvez, a spokesperson for MFD- told 27 News the fire started around 11:30 a.m. in a second-floor apartment on the 700 block of Vera Court due to a resident cooking with grease and leaving it unattended.

A Merrill man is thanking the first responders who saved his life after an explosion last year. Joe Kohn is a service technician. He was working on a cooler compressor at the Marathon gas station when something caused a blast and sent him to the hospital. Kohn met the firefighters and paramedics who came to his rescue at the Merrill Fire Department on Thursday.

A Japanese restaurant in Superior, Wisconsin was destroyed in a devastating fire early Monday. Fire crews were called to Wasabi All You Can Eat Japanese Restaurant at 3333 Tower Ave. Monday with crews arriving to find heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. No one was hurt but a home is lost after a fire early Wednesday morning. According to the battalion chief at the Menomonie Fire Department, they were called around 5:40 a.m., and remained on the scene until about 7:30 in the morning. After many months of hard work, the integrated Edgerton-Milton Fire-EMS Department launched Wednesday. The new department will serve the 25,000 residents and businesses in the greater Edgerton and Milton area, according to an announcement by the Edgerton Fire Protection District. Fire crews from multiple towns worked together to put out a house fire in Stoddard on Tuesday night. The fire was called in shortly before 6 p.m. at a house on Lake Road. When firefighters arrived to the scene, there were flames coming out of the windows of the home. Madison firefighters discovered a fire after responding to a carbon monoxide alarm on the near west side over the weekend. The Portage City Council has approved a new ambulance contract that will keep Portage and surrounding towns covered for the rest of the year with an option to extend into 2024. In September, Aspirus Wausau Hospital informed the city it was not going to extend the ambulance contract that has covered the city since 1999 and terminated the contract.
