2 pigs, 4 cows likely dead following barn fire near Edgar

Marathon Fire Chief Mike Tylinski said two pigs and four cows likely died Monday following a barn fire. The animals are currently missing. "Some animals were able to get out so we were able to save some but others perished," Tylinski said. The fire was reported at 12:22 p.m. Monday at a property near Soda Creek Road and Firecrown Lane in the Town of Cassel.

Fatal fire on Milwaukee's north side being investigated as arson

VIDEO: The remains of a man were found inside an abandoned home after a suspicious fire on Milwaukee’s north side. It happened at 5:48 Friday morning near 24th and Capitol. The Milwaukee Fire Department and the state fire marshal are working with Milwaukee Police to determine a cause. MPD also is searching for suspects and a motive.

A Milwaukee woman who plotted to shoot the two small children of an ex-boyfriend — only to change her mind at the last minute and attempt to burn down their Greenfield apartment with them inside — received a five-year prison sentence Jan. 17. Mai L. Lor, 28, will also spend four years after her imprisonment in extended supervision after pleading guilty last fall to arson of a building and first-degree recklessly endangering safety, according to online court records.

Emergency services in Dodge County could be due for a significant overhaul. At a meeting of town leaders Wednesday, officials discussed the possibility of pooling EMS services in the county to account for struggles with workloads, staffing, response times and finances. Currently, people in Dodge County are served by 18 different EMS providers that are part of a municipality or in a handful of cases a private contractor.

Plover firefighters save home from Thursday fire that destroyed garage

The Poynette-Dekorra-Lowville Fire Commission introduced a new medical director on Jan. 9 who will be working for EMS this year. Before becoming a firefighter in 1984, Romas went to UW-La Crosse for physical education and health. In his class of 33 at the fire academy, Romas was among 11 who graduated.
