Crews Say Crivitz Lumber A 'Total Loss,' No One Hurt

Fire crews say the historic Crivitz Lumber Company building is a total loss after the fire. Luckily, no one was hurt. 11 crews were out at the scene taking shifts as they battled and fire and the bitter cold. Officials say they were impressed with the community response. The doors to the elementary school were opened and offered a warm place for firefighters as well as food and hot coffee.

A winter snowstorm made it difficult for fire crews battling a house fire in Sullivan Monday morning. The fire department was called to the home at county roads CI and E just before 2:30 a.m. No one was home at the time, but crews had to use an excavator to extinguish the flames. The home had to be torn down and is a total loss.

A fire Sunday night destroyed a barn in the Eau Claire County town of Lincoln. The fire, at S6951 Morning Crest Drive just west of Fall Creek, was reported around 9:30 p.m. by property owner Jim Sadler. “Around 9:30 or so I looked out and saw an orange glow out there,” said Sadler, who immediately called 911 to report the blaze.

Czerniak, 71, will step down from his position as soon as the Joint Union Grove and Yorkville Fire Commission decides on his successor. He has been with the department for 41 years and has been chief for 17.

Two River Falls houses go up in flames on frigid night

River Falls firefighters battled blazes at two houses that went up in flames immediately behind Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls early Saturday. River Falls Fire Department was dispatched at 1 a.m. Jan. 26 to a structure fire at 222 E. Walnut St., an older two-story home just across the alley from the entrance to Jacob's Ladder Preschool.

Follow Up: Family remembers man killed in Argyle fire as being caring, fiercely independent

VIDEO: The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office is trying to determine what caused a fatal fire Wednesday in Fayette Township, near Argyle. The family is mourning the loss of the man, as Melvin Leroy Narveson, known to them as "Leroy." Narveson would have turned 90 in February. "He was very independent.
