Family of 5 safely escapes house fire in Hobart

A family of five safely escaped a house fire in Hobart. It started around midnight on the 3100 block of Jonas Circle. When crews arrived on scene flames were shooting up the side of the home. Firefighters believe the fire started in the garbage bins. "There was a dog inside. We were able to retrieve the dog for them and save the family pet," said Chief Jerry Lancelle from the Hobart Fire Department.

Edgerton Fire District adds paramedic services

VIDEO: The Edgerton Fire District is expanding to include paramedic services in its ambulances after the district was accredited following a three-year process. Deputy Chief Jason Russ says not being able to provide the service in the past was difficult for him. "As an (emergency medical services) provider that’s been in this now for 16 years, one of the hardest things is to be with a patient and know you can provide a better level of care, but yet know, since the service isn’t to that level yet, you cant," he said.

A suspected drunken driver accused of hitting and killing a firefighter is out of jail. Samuel Cremers was ordered released on a $5,000 signature bond after appearing in court Thursday. Police said he hit Lake Mills fire Capt. Christopher Truman on New Year's Eve on the Beltline as Truman helped a stranded driver.

Columbus Fire Department put one of its newest devices to action recently, snuffing out a fire that could have threatened a home in Columbus. Fire Chief Randy Koehn used the X-Tinguish FST, a fire suppression tool produced by Flame Guard USA, during a basement fire in mid-December. The fire suppression device, housed in a portable red box with a durable black handle, is a highly effective tool which has been used by fire departments, police, first responders and the armed forces for several years.

Burning candle on bedroom table causes $40,000 damage to Janesville residence

Janesville firefighters extinguished a fire that caused approximately $40,000 in smoke and fire damage to a residence at 12:41 a.m. Thursday. A release said Janesville firefighters arrived at 206 McKinley St. in Janesville, where the fire was burning in a second-floor bedroom of a residence. There was smoke coming out of the second floor when responders arrived.

Three homes in a residential neighborhood suffered damage early Thursday morning after they were struck by a semi tractor trailer. The incident happened about 1 a.m. in the 4900 block of Annabelle Court, according to the South Area Fire District. Police and fire crews arrived at the scene and determined that a semi was traveling westbound on State 29 when it left the roadway into a neighborhood and struck three homes, the fire department said.

Sun Prairie Assistant Chief to retire after 50 years of fire service

VIDEO: At 75-years young, Arnie Kleven has spent 50 of those years serving as a volunteer firefighter. “Back then you don’t think of it, but then you think where has the time gone?” Kleven said. It was 1972 when Kleven first joined up with Sun Prairie. He has spent the past four years in Illinois as a volunteer firefighter there.
