La Crosse Fire Department addresses cancer; leading cause of death among firefighters

Man arrested on suspicion setting fires at Madison Metro transfer point, police say

Madison police arrested a man early Friday morning for allegedly setting a shelter and a dumpster at a Metro transfer point on fire. According to a release, it happened around 1:30 a.m. when Madison police and fire departments responded to a report of a shelter at the West Transfer Point on Tokay Boulevard being on fire.

No injuries following Marathon area crash

PHOTO: Investigators said weather was a factor in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in the Town of Stettin near Marathon. The crash was reported around 8:45 a.m. Friday near the intersection of County Highway U and 136th Avenue. The area received snow early Friday morning. Investigators said no one was injured.

Railroad repairs on Brown Deer Road to impact drivers, fire department response times

VIDEO: If you drive through Brown Deer, heads up! There will be a major road closure next week, Nov. 12-16. Part of Brown Deer Road will be fully closed for railroad repairs and it will impact more than just drivers. Kenosha officials excited about more fire, police personnel after levy referendum passes

A wise man once said an ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure. Emergency services will be able to continue their focus on prevention, instead of purely mitigation, after voters passed a referendum Tuesday allowing a 1.73 percent tax levy increase for the Kenosha police and fire departments. The increase covers the roughly $900,000 needed to hire five additional police officers and two firefighters for 2019.

Greenfield voters favor raising taxes so more police, fire department personnel can be hired

They not only Back the Badge with yard signs, but they back the badge with their bucks. In balloting on Tuesday, Nov. 6, Greenfield voters gave permission for the city to raises taxes more than state revenue limits allow so it can hire five more police officers plus two more fire department personnel.

Firefighters from 6 departments battle barn fire near Denzer in Sauk County

Firefighters are battling a barn fire in the town of Honey Creek. The Sauk City Fire Department responded to the call sometime before 5 p.m. and requested mutual aid. Sauk City firefighter Dan Kirch said the structure was an 80 foot-by-80-foot pole barn holding hay. No people or animals were injured.

Five-alarm fire in grain dryer tower; 14 departments responded, Sun Prairie Fire says

A fire inside a huge grain dryer tower in the town of Bristol became a five-alarm fire, with 14 fire departments responding to the scene Sunday afternoon. The fire call came in at about 2:45 p.m. to the fire site on Highway V, the Sun Prairie Fire Department said. Two first responders sustained minor injuries in the blaze that caused at least $250,000 in damage, based on structural damage and replacement cost of the dryer.

Green Bay City Council approves 2019 budget with small tax increase, Station 7 ambulance

City officials scrounged up enough money Monday to ensure an ambulance for the northeast side can continue operating. The Green Bay City Council voted 8-4 to approve the 2019 budget in a tense, over four-hour meeting Monday night. The spending plan includes funding to staff an ambulance for the fire department's Station 7, at 3489 Humboldt Road, after a tight budget threatened to eliminate it altogether.

'It's devastating': Waubeka firefighters grieve loss of assistant chief

VIDEO: An Ozaukee County fire department is grieving the sudden loss of one of their leaders. Assistant fire chief Bruce Koehler of the Waubeka Fire Department was killed Friday night in a motorcycle crash. Koehler volunteered as the Waubeka firefighter for 35 years without making a dime. Those who served beside him say his dedication to the department was unmatched.

Racine police identify 71-year-old man found dead in home after fire

Racine police on Monday, Nov. 5 identified a 71-year-old man found dead in a home after a fire on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The fire happened in a home on Geneva Street near Hamilton Street, and the home was found fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The home contained four units, and David Etter lived in one of them.

Kenosha's growth has first responders facing a workforce shortage

Suamico Fire Receives Critical Training

Area firefighters received some critical, life saving training Saturday morning. The Suamico Fire Department held a training burn at a house on East Deerfield Drive. The department released video on their Facebook Page Saturday of the final controlled burn down of the home. Officials say the exercise is a live drill that allowed the firefighters to practice extinguishing fires.
