Racine County: Teen dies from injuries in hit-and-run crash; suspect in custody

A 71-year-old Kenosha man is in custody, accused of driving a vehicle that struck a bicyclist late Monday night resulting in the death of the 18-year-old man from Racine. Mount Pleasant police on Tuesday night identified the victim as Teren Cagle, who died at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa where he was taken after the crash.

Fire at east side Madison home causes substantial damage to garage, vehicles

Firefighters extinguished a structure fire in a detached garage at a home on Madison's east side, according to officials with the Madison Fire Department. The razing of the former Mount Pleasant/South Shore fire station in Lake Park, which closed in January 2014, began Monday. The site of the former firehouse at 3809 Sheridan Road, which dates to the mid 1960s, is destined to become part of adjacent Lake Park. Until recently, the South Shore Fire Department and Racine Fire Bells stored a few vehicles at the closed station, but South Shore Fire Chief Robert Stedman has said there were major problems with the building.

Portage fire inspector urges continued diligence to prevent fires

Craig Ratz says he believes fire safety and fire prevention go hand in hand. The Portage Fire Department’s inspector is responsible for conducting routine checks every six months at 1,040 buildings in Portage and its four surrounding towns. That array of buildings includes major employers such as Portage Plastics, big-box stores like Walmart, popular restaurants including La Tolteca and a host of apartment complexes.

Marshall Fire Department hangs flag over deployed firefighter's locker until return

The Marshall Fire Department is hanging an American flag over firefighter Luis Acosta's locker until his return from military deployment. According to a Facebook post, the flag will remain over his locker to remind others of his "sacrifice to our country to ensure our everyday freedoms." Acosta has been with the Marshall Fire Department since 2016.
