Firefighters extinguish lawn tractor fire in Verona

Firefighters were able to successfully extinguish a lawn tractor that caught fire in Verona Saturday evening. Dane County Dispatch says the call for the fire came in at 6:32 p.m. The Verona Fire Department was on scene within minutes. Verona Fire Department Chief Matthew Valentine said a lawn tractor caught fire within the garage of a home.

One person dead, one injured after north La Crosse fire

One person has died and another is injured after a house fire on Rose St. late Friday night. The La Crosse Fire department said in a release that responders were called to a two-floor triplex on 608 Rose Street shortly before midnight Friday. Upon arrival, responders saw heavy fire coming from inside the house.

Labor pains: EMS, fire departments across the state struggle to keep and retain paid-staff, volunteers

Across Wisconsin, fire departments and emergency medical service (EMS) agencies have a people problem—a major people problem. They don’t have enough of them. They are struggling to hire and retain paramedics, firefighters and emergency technicians. The problem is so acute that some volunteer fire and EMS departments don’t have enough personnel to respond to 911 calls.

3 die in house fire in Watertown, authorities say

Three people died in a house fire in Watertown early Friday, authorities said. The Watertown fire and police departments and the state fire marshal are investigating the fire in the 100 Block of Western Avenue that was reported about 12:30 a.m. Friday, Watertown Fire Department Chief Travis Teesch said in a statement.

Construction on schedule for La Crosse Fire Station Four

Construction is expected to wrap up in March for Fire Station Four on La Crosse street. Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Murphy said this new station will bring firefighters closer to the calls they serve. 7-year-old girl, woman found dead in Milwaukee's Northridge Lake, car submerged

The bodies of a 7-year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman were found in Northridge Lake Thursday afternoon. Milwaukee police said a witness spotted a car submerged in the water off 70th and Brown Deer on the city's north side around 12:30 p.m. Milwaukee Fire Department crews pulled the bodies out. Identities were not released.

Appleton apartment fire causes $40k in damages

An apartment fire in the city of Appleton caused around $40,000 in damage on Wednesday evening. According to the Appleton Fire Department, shortly after 6:30 p.m., firefighters were sent to an apartment complex on Woodmere Court for a report of a structure fire. Dispatch indicated that the fire was in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment unit and the only male occupant was out of the building safely.

Platteville Fire Department relocating following safety concerns

After nearly 60 years, the Platteville Fire Department is moving into a new station. The idea for a new station was introduced around 20 years ago when a study showed the department had outgrown the building, however nothing came of it. Fire quickly extinguished at northside La Crosse hotel

No one was hurt but a northside La Crosse hotel was partially evacuated after a fire early Wednesday morning. The La Crosse Fire Department was sent to America's Best Value Inn at 2622 Rose St. just after 6 a.m. for the fire in the entryway of the hotel. It was called in by employees of the Kwik Trip next door to the hotel.

Plans for Pleasant Prairie Fire Department Station No. 3 near completion

The village plan commission approved site and operational plans for Fire Station No. 3 in Prairie Springs Park, 10165 Terwall Terrace, during Monday’s meeting. The project will move to the village board for contract approval in January. The proposed plans place the new station at the northeast corner of Wis.

The Dollar General in Mondovi was forced to shutdown for several days after failing to comply with the fire code. “The biggest violations was the means of egress of the customers and the firefighters if needed," Steve Anderson, Mondovi Fire Chief, said. Firefighters rescue dog that fell through thin ice on Peshtigo River

Firefighters in Peshtigo had to use an inflatable device to rescue a dog that fell through thin ice. The Peshtigo Fire Department posted on its Facebook page about a recent incident where a dog fell through the ice and into the Peshtigo River. The incident happened on December 5 around 10:30 a.m. The ice was reportedly thin, which made it hard for crews to reach the dog.

Merrill Fire Department responds to structure fire

The Merrill Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Merrill on Monday night. The call came in around 11:20 p.m. to reports of a fire on East 8th Street. Upon arrival, it was determined that all the occupants were out of the four apartments in the building. Occupants were displaced for the night, but according to the Merrill Fire Department occupants were hopeful that three of the four rooms could be re-occupied soon.

Driver dies in fiery rollover crash on I-41 near Wrightstown

The Wisconsin State Patrol says one person is dead from a fiery crash on Interstate 41 near Wrightstown Monday. Just before 11 a.m., the victim was driving north on I-41 and went off the side of the road. The vehicle rolled over several times and caught fire. The driver was unable to get out of the wreckage and died.

'Careless use of smoking material' caused fire at Tomah residential facility

Careless use of smoking material is to blame for a fire Saturday night at a community-based residential facility, according to the Tomah Fire Department. The fire department was called to the facility in the 100 block of East Council Street around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Those first on scene said that heavy fire was coming from the northwest side and was growing quickly.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department announces new Fire Chief

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department has announced who will take over as their next fire chief. Matthew Knott from the Rockford (IL) Fire Department is to become the Green Bay Metro Fire Department leader after being selected by the Police and Fire Commission. According to the City of Green Bay, Knott has more than 25 years of public service in career and volunteer fire departments and law enforcement.

Firefighters respond to large grease fire in Town of Holland storage building

A storage building caught fire from heated grease in the Town of Holland Sunday afternoon. At 2:26 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Holmen Area Fire Department say in a release that they were dispatched to N8141 Amsterdam Prairie Rd, where they found heavy smoke and fire coming from inside the building. No one was injured, but the building sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.
