Tenants evacuated safely during apartment fire in Howard

Firefighters from around Brown County are still fighting an apartment fire in Howard 90 minutes after the emergency call came in. They’ve been at the scene on the 2600-block of Lavender Lane, near Cardinal Lane, since just after 4:30 a.m. They arrived to see flames shooting through the roof. A box alarm was issued, bringing in fire crews from other departments, including Green Bay and Pulaski.

10 people forced out of homes by apartment fire in Oshkosh

A fire forced 10 people living in an apartment building on Oshkosh’s Evans St. out of their homes Thursday night. The Oshkosh Fire Department was sent to the apartment building just before 8:30 and found smoke and flames coming from one apartment on the second floor. It took 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Northwoods firefighters trained on response to propane fires

VIDEO: Firefighters have to ready for everything and when it comes to standard fire, they've had plenty of practice. But its harder to prepare for a situation that may only happen on occasion. Only around one percent of house fires are fueled by propane. While they're rare, they still happen. A specialized training in Crandon means local emergency responders now can approach flames reaching 20 feet in the air.

Dinky Diner in Rhinelander a ‘total loss’ after fire, cause under investigation

PHOTOS: A fire left a popular diner in northern Wisconsin a ‘total loss’, and authorities are still working to find out the cause. According to the Rhinelander Fire Department, on March 28 around 6 p.m., crews responded to a report of smoke coming from R&T’s Dinky Diner. When crews arrived, heavy smoke was reportedly seen coming from the rear of the building.

Firefighters respond to Milwaukee 2-alarm fire, no injuries

No injuries were reported after a two-alarm fire in Milwaukee Thursday afternoon, March 30. Fire officials said firefighters found heavy fire on the second floor of the building near 7th and Burleigh around 2 p.m. "We kept the fire contained to one building. We found no trapped victims or occupants," said Will Kowalski, MFD deputy chief.

Children seriously hurt after falling from Governor Dodge State Park cliff

A 6-year-old and a 4-year-old were seriously injured Wednesday after Iowa Co. officials said they fell 20 and 80 feet, respectively, from a cliff. Iowa Co. officials said they received an emergency call around 2:15 p.m. for two kids that had fallen from a cliff near Bluff Point Trail in Governor Dodge State Park.

Lake Country Fire referendums call for more firefighters

Lake Country Fire & Rescue‘s chief said they’ve been experiencing closed fire stations and fewer firefighters because of a lack of funds. On April 4, voters could shape the department. Fire officials called the Wisconsin spring election critical. If voters in two communities agree to tax increases or fees, crews say they’ll be able to get to emergencies more quickly.

Missing teen rescued with help of drone in Wood County

A drone helped bring an area teen home safe Monday. Officials say it started when the fourteen-year-old boy, who lived near Babcock, went for a walk with his dog. "The juvenile had been missing for about an hour, family had already been searching for him," said Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker. Pittsville Fire Company was called in to use their drone, and after nearly two hours he was found near the Pittsville School Forest.

1 person taken to the hospital after cooking fire in Sun Prairie

A Sun Prairie resident was badly burned during an overnight kitchen fire, according to the Sun Prairie Fire Department. Fire officials said they were called to the 200 block of Foxdale Drive just before 1 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a building fire. When crews arrived to the multi-family building, they learned a kitchen fire happened in one of the units.

3 displaced, 2 dogs killed in southwest Madison fire

A fire at an apartment building on Madison's southwest side Wednesday afternoon left two dogs dead and three people displaced, the city's fire department said. The fire was reported in the 2300 block of Carling Drive around 1:50 p.m. Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames in a unit in the building.

3 dead in Milwaukee fire at elderly group home

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Three people are dead following a structure fire near 33rd and Fairmount in Milwaukee Wednesday morning, March 29. Crews were called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found the basement and first floor engulfed in flames. An 83-year-old Milwaukee man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Madison man charged in firebombing of anti-abortion office

A Madison man was arrested in Boston Tuesday on charges connected to the firebombing of a Madison anti-abortion office building in May of 2022. Hridndu Sankar Roychowdhury, 29, is charged with one count of attempting to cause damage by means of fire or an explosive, according to court documents. Early in the morning of May 8, 2022, two Molotov cocktails were thrown into the Wisconsin Family Action building, in the 2800 block of International Lane, Madison Police previously stated.

Pittsville High School student designs, builds solar panel holders for fire department

A high schooler in Pittsville is returning the favor to the fire department, helping them in their time of need. It may lead to a lasting partnership with the school district. Fire Chief Jerry Minor says it all started when the department was gifted a drone. "Part of the package with the drone is how do we charge the drone batteries in a remote setting," he said.

Fire ‘completely’ destroys livestock barn in Ozaukee County

PHOTOS: A livestock barn in Ozaukee County caught fire over the weekend, and over ten agencies were called to assist. The Grafton Fire Department posted on its Facebook page about a barn fire that happened on March 25. Around 6:15 p.m., fire crews were sent to a reported fire east of Port Washington Road on Lakefield Road.

Delafield house fire; pet turned on stove, officials say

Firefighters on Monday, March 27 responded to the scene of house fire on Northview Road near Woodside Drive in the Town of Delafield. A 911 call by the homeowner stated there was fire in the home and that the occupants were exciting. The first arriving fire engine found an active fire in the first floor kitchen of the home.

1 dead, another injured after house explosion in Manitowoc County

The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshal, and Newton Fire Department are investigating a home fire in the Township of Newton Friday. Officials say emergency services responded to reports of an explosion at a 9436 Newton Road around 5:15 a.m. According to Sheriff Dan Hartwig, preliminary information indicated that two individuals and a dog were inside the home at the time of the explosion.

Person hospitalized following house fire in town of Newton

Officials say one person is in the hospital following an explosion and fire in the town of Newton Fire officials say they were called to the scene at about 5:15 a.m. to the 9400 block of Newton Road. Officials say the home caught fire and they called for backup from multiple departments. While crews are still working to contain a fire in the home’s basement, they say the fire did not spread to other buildings.

Monroe Fire Department explores different ways to recruit staff

After looking to fill its chief position for nearly two years, the Monroe Fire Department is exploring a new approach to recruiting staff. Al Rufer, MFD’s interim fire chief, said the department is looking to mix traditional ways of recruiting with new ones. Rufer said he knows of several other southern Wisconsin fire departments facing staffing shortages.

Life-saving device added to Madison Fire Department ladder trucks

VIDEO: Thanks to a donation from a local group of philanthropists, the Madison Fire Department is now equipped with a life-saving CPR device known as a LUCAS. Short for Lund Cardiopulmonary Assist System, LUCAS has now been added to all five of the Madison Fire Department's ladder trucks in order to aid first responders when a person has gone into cardiac arrest.

Madison firefighters, on day off, save life of runner who suffered cardiac arrest

VIDEO: Two off-duty firefighters were in the right place at the right time on Wednesday, helping save a man's life after he went into cardiac arrest while running along John Nolen Drive. By chance, firefighter spouses Sue Juedes and Chelsea Utzerath took a different route on their day off when they came across the man lying on the ground and several people around him.
