Milwaukee moves towards razing "hoarder house"

VIDEO: The City of Milwaukee is taking steps to tear down a home that some people have called a "hoarder house", which caught fire this weekend. Paul Hettwer, a retired sanitation worker, has owned the home for 25 years. He says he doesn't consider himself to be a hoarder, he just stashed things in hopes of someday giving them away.

Sparta Fire Department trains for school fire scenario

Members of the fire department need to be ready for whatever situation they might encounter, but how do you practice the skills necessary for high risk situations? The Sparta Fire Department honed those skills with a mock search and rescue in a scenario where a large fire trapped several students inside.

Fire destroys Whitewater barn

A Monday afternoon fire destroyed a 98-year-old barn at N101 Highway 59, in the town of Cold Spring, according to a Whitewater Fire Department news release. Estimated loss is $400,000, the release stated. All animals were out of the building when the first firefighters arrived on scene at 3:05 p.m. Ten fire departments provided assistance in battling the blaze while Whitewater police and Jefferson County deputies handled traffic control.

Madison Chief: Southeast side fire station pushed back additional 2 years

VIDEO: Madison fire Chief Steve Davis said Monday the latest capital budget from Mayor Paul Soglin would push back construction of a fire station on the city's far southeast side from 2018 to 2020. Neighborhoods south of the Beltline near the McFarland city limits have some of the longest fire and EMS response times in the city.

Milwaukee firefighters battle fire in vacant house near 53rd &Custer

Milwaukee fire crews are investigating the cause of a fire in a vacant house near 53rd and Custer on Monday morning, September 19th. Officials say the fire caused about $260,000 in damage to the building and its contents. There apparently had been several renovations and some remodeling done at the home in the last few years.

No survivors in Northern Door plane crash

Authorities say there were no survivors after a small plane crashed in Peninsula State Park on Sunday night. The plane was found off Highland Road, north of the golf course maintenance building, just before 10 p.m. after more than an hour of intense searching by northern Door County police and fire personnel.

Appleton firefighters douse blaze set by juveniles

Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire on Sunday in a vacant apartment that juveniles fled prior to their arrival. The Appleton Fire Department, along with crews from the Grand Chute Fire Department, were called about 2 p.m. to 2707 W. Fourth St. Grand Chute firefighters found the blaze in the basement and put it out with a water extinguisher.

Benefit for paralyzed former Appleton firefighter 'awesome'

VIDEO: They arrived on Sunday to raise money to fulfill John Reese’s dream of again owning a home. In the process, the paralyzed, former Appleton firefighter learned just how much he’s loved. Friends and family showed up in force at the Best Western Bridgewood Resort Hotel to show their support for Reese, who was paralyzed in a 2001 diving accident.

Wausau Battle Of The Badges Honors Fallen Hero

Study group weighs 911, dispatch options for Monona

Monona firefighters would join the city’s EMS personnel in being dispatched by Dane County if the Monona City Council agrees with a recommendation from a group charged with studying the emergency dispatch operations. The study looked at the entire 911 system, which included considerations of technical needs, service, staffing, security, responsiveness and cost.

Milwaukee fire station burglarized while firefighters out answering call

Laptops, tablets, and cell phones were stolen from a Milwaukee fire station as firefighters were out answering a call. That call turned out to be a false alarm. According to Milwaukee police, around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, September 15th firefighters at Station 34, located at at 62nd and Burleigh, responded to the fire call and then left the scene.

New Edgerton Fire Chief talks future, explaining why past three chiefs resigned

VIDEO: It was a mass exodus. Three Edgerton Fire Chiefs resigned in less than a year. "The truth is Hollywood doesn't do us any favors," New Edgerton Fire Chief Randy Pickering said. "They glamorize the parts of the job that's like 2% of what we do," he added. Chief Pickering is taking over after three previous chiefs left in rapid succession.

Crews put out house fire in Sun Prairie

A fire damaged a home in Sun Prairie Wednesday afternoon according to the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters were called to a home in the 900 block of Katherine Drive just after 4:30 p.m. Fire officials said when crews arrived on scene, they found an active fire in the laundry room area.

'Red, White, and Blue' prayer service held for area Alma emergency responders

VIDEO: Local law enforcement, medical staff, and firefighters were honored during a church service Wednesday night in Alma. Pick-up truck catches fire at Appleton parking garage

VIDEO: Officials are investigating after a pick-up truck caught fire at an Appleton parking garage. It happened just before 4 p.m. Wednesday at Yellow Parking Ramp, located on the 100 block of East Washington Street. Firefighters say there is not much left of the pick-up truck. The parking garage was not damaged.

Investigators look into cause of massive Westport fire; 13 people displaced

VIDEO: The Waunakee Fire Department says it's working to find out what started a massive fire in the Town of Westport early Thursday morning. The fire at an eight-unit apartment complex started around 3:15 a.m. and was contained around 6:15 a.m. Firefighters were still on the scene as of 6:45 a.m. to monitor the building.

Judge enters not guilty plea for Green Bay murder and arson suspect

A judge entered a not guilty plea for a woman charged with arson and felony murder in connection with a man found dead after a fire at his home. Roni Anderson is charged with arson for allegedly setting the fire that killed Harold Ambrosius on June 12, 2015. She stood mute at her arraignment Monday, so Judge Tim Hinkfuss entered a not guilty plea for her, according to court records.

Ceremony honors 9/11 firefighters, Kilbourn's 125th anniversary

At exactly 8:46 a.m. on Sunday, the ringing of the fire bell echoed through the air. A hundred people sat in the shade with a cool morning breeze blowing in front of the Kilbourn Fire Department in downtown Wisconsin Dells. Fire Inspector Jerry Wolfram rang the bell, a solid nine times with a pause before ringing it one more time and then one last solid toll.

Kenosha: 'Super’ fire station proposed

The city of Kenosha could get a “super fire station” next year. Two fire stations would close and be merged into a “super” station on the site of the shuttered Bain Elementary School, 2210 52nd St. The two stations considered for closure: Station 3, 2121 Roosevelt Road, and Station 5, 2125 Washington Road.
