A firefighter lost part of a finger while helping to battle a two-alarm fire on Milwaukee's north side, officials said. The fire was reported late Monday night at a duplex near 4th Street and Concordia Avenue. Flames then spread to a neighboring duplex. Arcing electrical wires sparked an attic fire that damaged a Baraboo home Sunday morning. Baraboo Fire Chief Kevin Stieve said the fire caused extensive damage to the home’s roof and moderate smoke damage to its main level. The cause of a massive explosion last month in Fitchburg that leveled a home and scattered debris over a half-mile radius, severely damaging several other homes, may be tied to two mistakes made five years apart. In an effort to cut costs once a fire and ambulance agreement expires next year, the Dousman Fire District has proposed merging with the Oconomowoc Fire Department to create a new district that it says will save the communities it covers $2.3 million over 20 years.
