Plan underway to bring Whitewater fire department under city umbrella

Plans are underway to transform Whitewater’s volunteer fire department into an official city department, the city said Thursday. In a news release, the city said discussions on the plan began at the end of last year. Members of Whitewater Fire Department, Inc. gave their blessing in January to move forward with creating an official relationship with the city.

Beloit apartment building fire displaces 10 residents

Ten people are displaced after a fire tore through three apartment buildings in Beloit, according to the American Red Cross of Wisconsin. The City of Beloit Fire Department posted on Facebook that it responded around 8:40 a.m. to an apartment fire on the 400 block of Harrison Avenue. Firefighters did not yet have information on a cause or damage.

One person displaced after Madison mobile home fire

City of Madison firefighters responded to a structure fire on Rustic Parkway on Friday. Crews responded to 30 Rustic Parkway around 1:00 a.m. Crews saw flames coming form the rear of the mobile home when they arrived, according to Madison Fire. The occupant evacuated the home safely and told firefighters no one else was in the home.

One dead following fire at Monroe trailer park

One person was found dead after a fire at a trailer park Wednesday morning, according to the Monroe Fire Department. Firefighters responded to the fire on the 2600 block of 8th Ave. in Monroe at Lot 17 where they later found a deceased body. That person has not yet been identified and was taken to Madison for an autopsy.

Kansasville first responders train to save ice fishermen

“Hey, We Energies, can you take down a power line so we can make sure we’re ready to save people who fall through the ice?” “Yeah, sure, no problem.” That may not be exactly how the conversation between the Kansasville Fire & Rescue Department and the electric/natural gas utility went, but it’s close enough.

Eau Claire firefighters show off PFAS-free fire suppressant, F-500

The Eau Claire Fire Department is showing how its fighting fires without spreading harmful chemicals. Firefighters say the suppressant, known as F-500 is an environmentally friendly encapsulator agent. This means though it can put out many types of fires effectively. It doesn’t have harmful man-made chemicals known as P-FAS, like its predecessors.

JB Moody Officially Named New Stevens Point Fire Chief

Just days after he was announced as the preferred candidate, JB Moody has formally accepted the position of Fire Chief in the City of Stevens Point. The process was finalized Wednesday following a vote of the city’s Police and Fire Commission. Moody will begin his duties on March 2nd. “I am very happy with the selection of Jb Moody as the new Chief,“ said Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza.

Merrill: Virtual reality serving as another tool in fire safety training

A virtual reality tool is helping firefighters train in the field without leaving the station. Northcentral Technical College and Illinois-based GTI Energy partnered to develop emergency response testing modules for firefighters. The project was State funded by the Department of Transportation. Each module simulates an emergency situation on a highway with vehicles.

Highland first responders host BBQ for fallen Mineral Point firefighters

There’s a way for you to support the families of the fallen Mineral Point firefighters and get a tasty meal in the meantime this weekend. Greendale firefighter's home catches fire while he is on duty

They rush toward emergencies every day, but on Monday, Feb. 14, a Greendale firefighter learned the call to help at a house fire in Muskego was actually at his home. Now, firefighters across the state are pitching in to help him. Photos from a neighbor show a garage mostly in flames around 5:30 Monday evening.

Janesville residents escape unharmed during house fire

Firefighters believe a Janesville home fire started Sunday night after fireplace ashes were thrown away into a garbage can on the side of the residence. According to the Janesville Fire Department, crews were called to the 900 block of East Russel Road in Janesville for the report of a house fire with smoke and flames visible from the attached garage.

Madison firefighters credit resident’s quick thinking for limiting extent of apartment fire

Local fire officials said a family’s fast action and decision to close a bedroom door stopped an apartment fire from becoming much worse. Madison resident discovers fire in downtown apartment bedroom, alerts family to escape safely

A resident discovered a fire in a downtown apartment bedroom early Monday morning, and alerted the rest of their family so all could escape safely, the Madison Fire Department reported. Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday, fire crews were sent to 400 Bayview where a resident had discovered the fire in a second-floor bedroom, closed the bedroom door, which helped suppress the fire’s spread, then alerted other family members to flee the apartment, Fire Department spokesperson Bernadette Galvez said in a statement.

Eau Claire health care workers deliver valentines to first responders

EMS workers and firefighters at the Eau Claire Fire Department’s Station 5 got a sweet surprise Friday. Several health care workers from Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire stopped by the fire station Friday afternoon to deliver giant valentines and sweet treats ahead of Valentine’s Day. They said it’s their way to say thank you for EMS workers’ service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ice rescue training in Racine County; incidents 'on the rise'

Emergency crews in southeastern Wisconsin are thankful that circumstances weren't worse after two ice shanties fell through lake ice in the past two days. Assistant fire chief promoted to Stevens Point chief

Jb Moody will take over as Stevens Point Fire Chief on March 2. Moody has been with the department since 2004 and has been assistant fire chief since 2018. Janesville dryer fire causes $30K in damage, fire department says

A dryer fire at a Janesville home caused $30,000 in damage Friday evening, the city’s fire department said. In a news release, the Janesville Fire Department said the fire broke out at a duplex in the 700 block of Hawthorne Avenue just before 5:10 p.m. When firefighters got to the scene, they found smoke throughout a portion of the duplex and flames in the laundry area.

Fire engulfs ATV shop in Marinette County

Fire engulfed an ATV dealership in Marinette County Thursday. At about 7:30 p.m., crews responded to Jake’s Sales and Service at County Road P and Highway 141 in the Town of Beaver. Pound Volunteer Fire Chief Turner Gross says the shop was engulfed in flames. People were doing mechanic work inside.
