A house fire on the 1600 block of Taylor Avenue that caused an estimated $41,500 in damage Friday afternoon “is under investigation,” according to the Racine Fire Department. Gov. Tony Evers announced Friday that he has appointed a former Marshfield firefighter-paramedic as the new Wood County coroner. David Patton will take the position left vacant since former Coroner Scott Brehm resigned May 15. Patton has been a deputy coroner in Wood County since March 2020. He has performed death investigations and worked with local police and fire departments, according to the governor's office.

The Mequon Fire Department on Monday swore in its three new battalion chiefs. The command-staff positions are a result of the city’s Future of our Fire Department Committee, which was created in July 2019 to give the Common Council a road map to address both staffing and facilities concerns. A new program designed to provide alternative emergency response for mental health 911 calls will launch next week. The Madison Fire Department says one person was found dead when firefighters responded to an apartment fire on Madison’s west side. Just after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, fire crews responded to a fire alarm at Summit Hill Apartments on Mckenna Boulevard. The apartment building has 41 units. A Fredonia DPW worker was flown to the hospital with "crush-related injuries" after being rescued from a trench in the village Wednesday, Aug. 25. The man was identified by the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office as Brandon Heinen, 24, of Port Washington. Work was being done to install pipes when the sidewall of the trench collapsed on top of the man, leaving him buried chest high.

The body found inside a truck belonging to the Arcadia-Glencoe fire chief has been identified as Jeff Halvorsen. Inside the Peshtigo Fire Museum are artifacts of the 1871 fire, which burned 1.5 million acres and took the lives of what is estimated to be between 1,200 and 2,400 people. Now, to commemorate the sesquicentennial, a book called "The Great Fires in Wisconsin of 1871" has been republished in order to educate people about the fire.

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday in Buffalo County, according to authorities.
