Wisconsin EMS Association applauds state Senate after unanimous passage of 3 EMS bills

1 killed in Waukesha residence fire, 4 others injured, fire department says

Two people were forced to jump from the second floor window, a 50-year-old man was killed and several others are suffering from severe injuries after a four-unit residence caught fire in Waukesha early Tuesday morning. The Waukesha Fire Department said in an update that an unnamed 50-year-old man has died after being brought to the hospital with critical injuries.

Firefighters battle explosions at 2-alarm Milwaukee welding facility fire

Firefighters battled explosions during a two-alarm fire at a Milwaukee recycling and welding facility near 30th and North on Monday evening, March 7. It happened shortly before 6 p.m.Responding crews found fire on the first and second floor of the building. One worker was on scene at the time. According to fire officials, dangerous chemicals in the building caused several explosions.

New Berlin Fire Dept.: Car Rolls Over In Ditch, Jaws Of Life Used

A car went into a ditch and rolled over several times on southbound Racine Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the New Berlin Fire Department. The car landed on its roof and the Jaws of Life were needed to free the one person inside, according to a news release from the fire department. The patient was taken to the Level 1 Trauma Center at Froedtert in Wauwatosa, the release said.

Deerfield home suffers $200,000 damage in fire, authorities say

Atown of Deerfield home suffered $200,000 damage in a fire Saturday night, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office reported. At about 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, sheriff’s deputies and fire crews from McFarland, Lake Mills and Deer Grove responded to a house fire in the 3400 block of Prairie Drive in the town of Deerfield, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Crews respond to fire at Middleton Club Tavern

Middleton Fire officials responded to the Club Tavern & Grille early Sunday morning for report of a fire on the roof. According to MFD, crews were dispatched to the Middleton business around 12:30 a.m. Once on scene, firefighters identified a small fire on the roof and were able to contain it to an area in the wall.

Janesville apartment fire causes over $12K in damages

The Janesville Fire Department was dispatched to the River Flats Apartment complex on Friday morning for a fire that erupted in an apartment closet. Firefighters arrived at 200 N. Jackson St for a commercial alarm activation at around 10 a.m. Once on scene, the fire was already extinguished thanks to the sprinkler system.

Red Cross helping family of six displaced in town of Freedom fire

Two adults and four children were displaced Thursday following a fire in their town of Freedom home. Firefighters from multiple agencies battled heavy fire that broke out Thursday morning in the kitchen of the home. According to a Red Cross spokesperson, the agency provided emergency assistance for things like temporary lodging, meals and clothing, as well as access to health and mental health resources.

Assistant Chief Brian Wolf said December and January were particularly challenging months, as omicron rapidly spread through Wisconsin.

All safe after mobile home fire in Pleasant Prairie

Nobody was injured in a fire Wednesday morning in a residence at the Timber Ridge mobile home park at 1817 104th St. in Pleasant Prairie. Jennifer Bailey, her husband and their 18-year-old son were in the home at the time, but all were able to get out safely. Bailey was able to get one of her cats out of the home, and firefighters were able to save another cat along with three birds.

All UW-Milwaukee dorms get carbon monoxide detectors

UW-Milwaukee is scrambling to install carbon monoxide alarms in all of its residence halls. The move comes after at least 17 students were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. Some 400 students were evacuated from the Cambridge Commons dorm late Monday night. Officials said they determined a boiler in the basement was to blame.

Fiery crash in Sparta leaves woman dead, man in hospital

Investigators are looking into a weekend accident in Sparta, Wis.. where a car caught on fire, killing one person and injuring another. Mary Slonka of rural Sparta died at the scene, after the Sunday morning crash. The other person in the car, Timothy Slonka, is listed in critical condition at Gundersen.

Six displaced in Beloit apartment fire

A fire at a Beloit apartment complex drove six people from their homes Wednesday morning, the fire department reports. According to the Beloit Fire Department, firefighters were called to the five-unit building, in the 1200 block of Sixth Street, shortly before 7 a.m. When they arrived, crews reported seeing smoke coming from one of the apartments and they were able to get the fire under control quickly.

Semi rolls over, leaving three people pinned in Jackson County

Three people were injured after a semi rolled over on Interstate 94 near Hixton in Jackson County. The crash was reported at just before 3 a.m. Tuesday. Emergency services from Hixton Fire Department, Hixton EMS and Mayo Clinic EMS arrived at mile marker 97 west to find a semi on its side and an SUV pinned underneath.

City of Lake Mills purchases ambulance as it considers taking over EMS operations beginning 2023

The City of Lake Mills has decided to move forward with purchasing an ambulance as it looks to the future of emergency medical services without the Lake Mills EMS. However, what the service model looks like is still up in the air. The Lake Mills City Council conducted a special meeting on Feb. 23 with the only action item listed was the purchase of an ambulance.

Garage fire in Janesville causes $650,000 in damages

On Monday, Janesville Fire Department responded to a call regarding a fire in a garage at 304 Sunny Lane. Firefighters arrived to find a garbage truck fully engulfed in flames while inside the building. The fire was contained within the garage area by the fire department as they fought on the scene for three hours.

‘STAY OFF THE ICE’ fire department warns after SUV's tire breaks though Geneva Lake on Sunday

The Lake Geneva Fire Department is warning people to not drive or walk on Geneva Lake after a car’s tire went through the ice and got stuck on Sunday, Feb. 27. “PLEASE STAY OFF OF THE ICE!! We cannot express this enough,” the fire department posted online on Facebook. The fire department went on to tell people, “Please understand that if you chose to drive on the lake you not only put your life at risk but ours as well.

Janesville fire damages five garbage trucks

An overnight fire in Janesville damaged five GFL Environmental, Inc., garbage trucks and caused more than a half-million dollars in damage, according to the fire department. Town of Burke residential fire causes estimated $175K in damage

Multiple crews responded to the Town of Burke for a significant residential fire Saturday night. According to Sun Prairie Fire & Rescue, at around 9:20 p.m., crews were dispatched to Rebel Drive for report of a single family residential fire. A command unit and Station Two Engine first arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke from two sides and roof of the structure.
