Brookfield fire chief named 14th Assembly District First Responder of the Year

Brookfield Fire Chief David Mason has only been on the job for about four months. But in that time, he's already won the First Responder of the Year award for the 14th Assembly District. It's an award he's happy to receive but never expected. "There's no expectation for this kind of recognition," Mason said.

Eau Claire Fire Department warns of T-shirt spam

The Eau Claire Fire Department says a text message received by people across the Chippewa Valley is not from them. The text message says there is a limited edition T-shirt representing the fire department, and encourages people to click the link to make the purchase. Deputy Fire Chief Allyn Bertrang said he first learned about this text around 10:30 Thursday morning.

Truck hauling ammunition catches fire on highway outside of Amherst

As flames reaching as high as 20 feet into the air, firefighters outside of Amherst battled to contain the fire raging inside a semi-trailer that was hauling ammunition among other items. Amherst Fire District Chief Victor Voss recounted that the ammunition was exploding as his teams fought to get the blaze under control.

Milwaukee Mayor nominates Dana World-Patterson to Fire and Police Commission

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced Tuesday he is nominating Dana World-Patterson to serve on the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. World-Patterson is a prominent advocate for the victims of human trafficking. She is the founder and chief executive of Foundations for Freedom, Inc., a local organization that works to prevent human trafficking and support women and girls who have been trafficked.

Nekoosa to lose its ambulance service, will contract with Wisconsin Rapids

The City of Nekoosa will lose its ambulance service next year, after a vote from the city council. Angry residents filled the council chambers at the municipal building Tuesday night, begging city leaders not to sign a contract with the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department. In the meeting, members of the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department said the contract would allow for two paramedics on each call to Nekoosa, and that response times would be around 10 to 15 minutes.

Crash Responder Safety Week: 'Move and slow down' - Steps to protect emergency crews after crashes

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is asking drivers to protect those who protect us by taking steps to ensure safe driving conditions while workers respond to a crash. The WisDOT reported 115,694 crashes in 2020 throughout the state. Of those, 703 were secondary crashes, happening after an initial incident.

Neillsville Fire Department Responds to Shed Fire

The Neillsville Fire Department responded to a shed fire yesterday afternoon. According to Neillsville Fire Chief Matt Meyer, around 4:16pm, they received a report of a shed fire at W5745 Strobel Road in the Township of Pine Valley. The resident had used a lawn mower prior to the fire and parked it in the shed when done.

Fire destroys Oxford home

An Oxford woman was sound asleep early Monday morning when her 16-year-old nephew burst into her bedroom to tell her the house was on fire. Awaking to the shocking news, she quickly got up and they both raced out of the home and to safety. The pair made a beeline for the main home where they alerted their family to the burning structure nearby.

Fire pit ashes spark house fire in Appleton

Fire pit ashes are believed to have sparked a house fire in Appleton Sunday night. At 11:30 p.m., Appleton firefighters were called to a report of a house fire in the 1000 block of S. Weimer St. Crews learned the occupants had escaped the home without injury. Firefighters attacked flames at the rear of the home.

Pardeeville Fire Department mourns loss of firefighter who died from COVID-19

The Pardeeville Fire Department is mourning the loss of a firefighter who died from COVID-19. The department said in a Facebook post that 32-year-old Brandon Romo fought a difficult battle the last few weeks after being diagnosed with the virus. Romo leaves behind a wife and three kids. PFD said it plans to hold a bingo night fundraiser on November 17th to raise money for Romo's family.

No one hurt after fire at a house in La Crosse

Nobody was hurt after a fire in a house on La Crosse’s east side Sunday afternoon. According to the La Crosse Fire Department, at noon Sunday, a fire was reported at a house on the 2200 block of Barnabee Road, which is located east of La Crosse Central High School. The street runs parallel to Highway 33.

Monona fire crews rescue hiker from marsh

Monona firefighters and law enforcement rescued a hiker from Yahara River marshes Saturday afternoon. The Monona Fire Department assistant fire chief told 27 News, a hiker got stuck in the mud. MFD crews shut down two lanes of the Beltline to station a firetruck on the bridge. They extended the ladder over the bridge and two firefighters and one Dane County deputy were able to rescue the hiker.

Green Bay house fire leaves one person displaced

According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Saturday they were called to a report of a structure fire on 920 S. Oneida Street. When fire crews arrived, they found a single family residence with smoke showing from the attic area. They quickly extinguished the fire located in the attic space around the fireplace chimney, with the fire deemed under control within 15 minutes.

Two pets dead, home a total loss in fire northeast of Poynette

Two pets are dead and a home is a total loss after a fire northeast of Poynette. Multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire Thursday. Columbia County dispatchers said the call came in around 11:45 a.m. Authorities said the fire happened near Dunning Road and County Highway B. Crews reported that a single-family home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Crews battle 2-alarm fire at business on Milwaukee's north side

Crews from the Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a fire on Milwaukee's north side Thursday morning, Nov. 4. Solar panels installed at Jefferson fire and EMS facility

The City of Jefferson continues to actively pursue its goal of becoming what Mayor Dale Oppermann in 2020 called a “solar city” with the recent installation of high-tech, sun-absorbing panels on the roof of its fire and EMS facility. The fire and EMS home base on East Racine Street is the new home of the panels as a result of some help from the community’s locally owned, not-for-profit utility, Jefferson Utilities.

Fire in Two Rivers causes estimated $15k in damages

A vehicle caught fire and spread to a garage during the early hours of Wednesday morning in Two Rivers. According to the Two Rivers Fire Department, On Nov. 3 around 3:30 a.m., a call came in for a fire on the 2700 block of 12th Street in Two Rivers. A vehicle was on fire in the driveway between two homes.

Crews respond to house fire in Chippewa Falls

Crews responded to a fire in Chippewa Falls Wednesday afternoon. According to a release from the Chippewa Falls Fire Department, Wednesday at 4:29 p.m., Chippewa Falls Fire & Emergency Services was dispatched to smoke coming from a home at 12 W Birch Street. First arriving units noted moderate smoke coming from the rear, upstairs corner of the two-story home.
