Fire injures resident, kills cats in Town of Montrose

One person was hurt and a number of cats killed in a fire in the town of Montrose Thursday night. Firefighters from a number of departments were called to the multi-occupancy building in the 6700 block of Henry Road around 8:50 p.m. All residents were able to evacuate. One person was transported to the hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Flags fly at half-staff in honor of Milwaukee firefighter who died from brain cancer

U.S. and Wisconsin flags in the state will fly at half-staff Friday in honor of a Milwaukee firefighter who died of cancer over the weekend. Batallion Chief Sean Slowey, 68, died Saturday after battling brain cancer related to his service, according to Gov. Tony Evers’ executive order lowering flags.

Madison fire crews help oxygen-dependent patients after power outages cause complications

Firefighters were dispatched to Madison’s south side Wednesday night after a fallen tree cut power to area residents, two of whom needed help with their oxygen supplies. According to a Madison Fire Department incident report, crews responded to the 900 block of Moorland Road around 9:45 p.m. after winds knocked over a large tree in the area, prompting power outages.

Milwaukee Fire Department announces funeral services for Battalion Chief Sean Slowey

The Milwaukee Fire Department announced Wednesday, Dec. 15, the service dates and plans for the funeral of Battalion Chief Sean W. Slowey. Slowey passed away Saturday, Dec. 11 at the age of 68. La Crosse man arrested for starting home on fire, killing a dog and pointing gun at victim

A dead dog, another had to be resuscitated, a battery victim who had a gun pointed at them and a house intentionally set on fire. That was the scene on the 2000 block of Onalaska Court Wednesday, beginning about 1:15 a.m. when the fire department got a call for a house on fire. They fought the fire until about 5 a.

Firefighters battle flames and wind at Monroe County blaze that destroyed home

Fire destroyed a Monroe County home early Thursday morning. The call went out to the home on Mascot Avenue, just north of Cashton, around 1:30 a.m. When Cashton fire crews arrived, they found flames shooting out of the roof. “There was fire coming out of the attic, and quite noticeably on two sides, so we had to start attacking attic windows with water,” Cashton Fire Chief Al Erickson said.

Western Lakes Fire District swoops in for the save of Trumpeter Swan stuck on the ice

VIDEO: A Trumpeter Swan was stuck on a frozen lake in southern Wisconsin, and local water rescue personnel were able to save it. According to the Western Lakes Fire District, a resident contacted the authorities as well as Wildlife in Need about a swan that appeared to be stuck on the ice and unable to fly.

Wausau Fire Department calls for more boots on the ground

Wausau Fire Department proposed a plan to add 12 new firefighters by 2024. They presented the plan to the City's Human Resources Committee Monday night where it was approved. Wausau Fire Chief, Bob Barteck said the department has not changed its employee requirements since 1970 and needs a major update.

Ochsner Park enclosure burns down, all animals safe

All the animals at Ochsner Park Zoo are safe and were not hurt in a Tuesday morning fire that destroyed the building where their donkeys, llamas, and wolves are housed, zoo staff confirmed. In a post on Facebook, officials credited firefighters’ efforts in helping protect the animals and keep them safe as well as for preventing the fire from spreading to other buildings.

Wausau families 'Shop with a Hero' for Christmas cheer

A few area families had the chance to go on a holiday shopping spree with their firefighters. The Wausau Fire Department’s Charitable Foundation held their annual Shop with a Hero event Monday at Fleet Farm. Families were chosen by the group to shop for presents and other goodies with these heroes.

Woman, dog die in Baraboo duplex fire

A woman died in an overnight duplex fire in Baraboo, according to Baraboo Police Captain Rob Sinden. The victim is not being identified at this time. Authorities also recovered a deceased dog. Sinden said due to extensive damage and structural concerns, The City of Madison Heavy Urban Rescue Team spent two hours on structural support mechanisms to allow investigators to gain entry into the burned duplex.

Current, former chiefs to weigh in on search for Madison Fire Department's next leader

Madison’s police and fire commission is set to meet Monday as the city searches for a new fire chief to replace retiring Chief Steven Davis. Duplex fire in Baraboo causes ‘severe structural damage’

Baraboo officials are investigating a late night fire at a duplex that fully engulfed half of the building in flames. The Baraboo Police Dept. says officials responded to the fire at the Southeast corner of 4th and Barker streets in the City of Baraboo around 10:33 p.m. Sunday night. When officers arrived, they were able to evacuate a man, woman and their pet cat from one area of the duplex.

Car crashes into Menomonee Falls home, causes gas leak

The Menomonee Falls Fire Department announced that a car drove off the road, and into a home near Main and Rock Pointe in Menomonee Falls on Sunday, Dec. 12 Authorities did not describe the circumstances behind how the car went off-road into a home but reported that the car struck a gas meter attached to the home.

Milwaukee Fire Battalion Chief Sean Slowey passes away after battle with job-related brain cancer

According to a post from the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Fire Department Battalion Chief Sean Slowey passed away Saturday, Dec. 11 from job-related brain cancer. Merrill Fire Department showcases new drone

The Merrill Fire Department newest high-tech toy gives them an edge few other departments in the state have access to. It's a new way to survey a scene and help fight fires, and serve as an eye in the sky, and all the fire department has to do is push a button. A tethered drone, called 'Fotokite', is built for first responders to enable quick set up and deployment, getting them the information they need, faster.

Firefighters battle fire at Quincy Recycling in Green Bay

Firefighters battled a fire Thursday night at a recycling business on the city's north side. Fire crews responding around 8:30 p.m. to Quincy Recycling, 701 Bay Beach Road, found heavy smoke coming from the back of the building, according to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Fire department officials said additional fire departments were called because of the building's large size and heavy smoke and fire.

Firefighters battle blaze in Sun Prairie

Firefighters responded early Friday morning to reports of a fire in a residential part of Sun Prairie. La Crosse: Former South Side Senior Center, fire station named Historic Place

The former home of the Southside Senior Citizen Center the former La Crosse Fire Station No. 5 has joined the ranks of the National Register of Historic Places. The Wisconsin Historical Society announced Thursday that the building at 1220 Denton Street on La Crosse’s south side has been added to the registry.

West Bend Fire Department study presented to council

The city has a lot of options to consider for the future of the West Bend Fire Department, including potential staff increases, personnel restructuring and what fire stations to continue running. The city’s Common Council received a presentation Monday on the Fire Department organizational study and operational review from McMahon Associates.
