17 people displaced from fire at 24th and Kilbourn in Milwaukee

17 people were displaced after a residential building caught fire near 24th and Kilbourn in Milwaukee Wednesday morning. A spokesperson for the American Red Cross of Wisconsin tells us they are working to identify their needs, including how many need temporary shelter. A TMJ4 News crew spotted the attic on fire in the large 2.

Racine fire; 3 family dwelling damaged, 1 taken to hospital

The Racine Fire Department responded to the area of Main and Barker Wednesday, May 25 for a fire in a three family dwelling. The call came in around 6:15 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered the first floor rear unit engulfed in flames. The crew of Engine 1 attacked and controlled the fire keeping it from spreading to the other units.

Smoking materials sparked apartment fire in Chilton, chief says

Smoking materials sparked a fire at an apartment in Chilton early Wednesday. At 4:29 a.m., the Chilton Fire Department responded to a fire at 1030 S. Diane Street. It’s a 16-unit building that houses people with disabilities and mobility issues. Mutual aid was called in and all residents safely evacuated the building.

Fort McCoy : Army Reserve Firefighters Add Skills to Toolbelts

Firefighters from across the Army Reserve used Fort McCoy, Wis., as the backdrop for a 10-day airport rescue firefighting apparatus driver/operator training course detailing the ins and outs of various firefighting vehicles, May 15 to 27, 2022. The training is led by instructors from the Illinois Fire Service Institute with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and gives Soldiers the knowledge and confidence they need to safely and effectively operate various firefighting vehicles.

128-unit Madison apartment complex evacuated after high carbon monoxide levels detected

“Dangerous and potentially lethal” levels of carbon monoxide were discovered at a downtown Madison apartment complex Monday, the City of Madison Fire Department stated, which were likely caused by a van left running outside the building. Crews were called just after 5:30 p.m. to evacuate the 128-unit complex on the 1000 block of University Avenue after Madison Gas & Electric noted high readings of carbon monoxide.

Man charged with setting house fire after finding man dead in Waupaca County

Arson and mutilating a corpse charges have been filed against a man in Waupaca County. On May 24, Steven D. Eggert, 24, was charged with 16 counts in this case, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Action 2 News. On April 27, at about 2:18 p.m., the Iola Rural Fire Department and Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office were called to a fire on County Highway P in the Town of Harrison.

Grand Chute fire chief retiring

Grand Chute’s fire chief is retiring after more than four decades of service in public safety, including the last 15 years as fire chief. Timothy Bantes will retire effective July 6. He also served as the Town of Grand Chute’s emergency manager during crises such as severe storms and the Fox River Mall shooting.

8 departments respond to Richfield house fire

On Tuesday May 24, 2022 at approximately 12:31 a.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a residential fire in the 3400 block of North Shore Drive in the Village of Richfield. The initial caller on scene reported the rear deck of the residence was on fire and that flames and smoke were visible.

Pole barn, shed destroyed in Bloomer farm fire

According to the Bloomer fire chief, a fire broke out at a farm on 130th Street just after 1: 30 p.m. Monday. There were no injuries, but the fire destroyed a pole barn and shed. Several pieces of farm equipment and a vehicle were also destroyed as a result of of the blaze. It took firefighters roughly an hour to get the fire under control.

Central Wisconsin: Agriculture Rescue Training event to be held this fall

Firefighters and farmers have different jobs, but both face risks as part of their everyday duties. These shared risks are why the National Farm Medicine Center, Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, operates the Agriculture Rescue Training program. “The severity of incidents on farms is such that they may be low frequency, but when they happen, they are high risk,” said Casper Bendixsen, National Farm Medicine Center director.

Bear breaks into Medford home through window and attacks a couple, but they fought back

A Medford couple fought and killed a 120-pound adult female black bear that broke into their home on Friday night, injuring both of them. The attack was reported at 11:11 p.m. Friday on Castle Road in the town of Medford, according to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office. When deputies and emergency services got to the home, they found the injured homeowners and their children, who had been asleep at the time of the attack and were unharmed, the sheriff's office said.

Milwaukee's north side apartment fire displaces 60+

A fire on Milwaukee's north side left dozens of people without a place to sleep Saturday night, May 21. The Red Cross was able to put up some residents at their downtown office for the night before a shelter was opened Sunday. The fire happened after the Red Cross spent the weekend installing hundreds of smoke alarms on Milwaukee's south side.

Eau Claire Fire Department responds to kitchen fire at Red Coal BBQ

Firefighters responded to a local family restaurant shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Crews were at Red Coal BBQ on North Clairemont Avenue for a kitchen fire. Officials with the Eau Claire Fire Department said they forcibly entered the building after heavy smoke was seen upon arrival. They worked to extinguish the fire so it did not spread beyond the kitchen, but there was heavy smoke throughout the restaurant.

Vandals Hit Fireman's Park in Campbellsport For Third Time, Confess

Fireman’s Park in Campbellsport was vandalized for a third time this year, this time in the woman’s bathroom. But unlike the previous incidents, responsibility for the vandalism has been accepted. A number of Parents and children confessed to local authorities regarding the vandalism. In a social media post issued Thursday the Campbellsport Police Department said many tips were given, followed by parents bringing their children in and advising the Department that they had been involved in the vandalism.

VIDEO: Explosion, fire rock dock construction company in Waukesha County

Three civilian workers and three firefighters were injured in a massive explosion and fire Thursday at a construction company in Waukesha County. The explosion and fire started shortly before 8 a.m. at Summerset Marine Construction on Chapman Lane in Eagle. No deaths were reported. Two workers were taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries.

New Wisconsin Rapids Fire Chief Todd Eckes wants to carry on tradition of excellence

The city's newest fire chief has a long history with the fire service. Chief Todd Eckes officially took the oath of office Tuesday evening during the Wisconsin Rapids Common Council meeting. He had been interim fire chief since former Chief Scott Young's retirement in October. The Wisconsin Rapids Police and Fire Commission named him as the new fire chief on May 2.

Six injured in five-alarm fire at Summerset Marine Company in Eagle

A huge fire set off by an explosion is burning at a marine construction company in southeast Wisconsin. There was no immediate word on whether anyone was injured Thursday at Summerset Marine Construction in the small Waukesha County community of Eagle, about 35 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Kettle Moraine Fire District administrative assistant Janine Conk says an explosion touched off the fire.

Balloon artists create life-sized firetruck, firefighter in Winnebago County

VIDEO: A group of 12 balloon artists from around the United States gathered in Omro to create a life-sized fire truck out of balloons. Artists began working on the project on Monday, where they made the truck and other minor details. On Wednesday, the group unveiled the finished product inside the Omro Fire Department.

In the last 150 years, Wisconsin has been the site of some of the most extreme fires and land-use changes in United States history. Settlers cleared forests, erased prairies, and wetlands, and shaped the land to provide livelihoods for farmers. Over time land management practices of Native Americans were pushed aside and forgotten.

Stevens Point's new fire chief works to keep short-staffed department at high standard of service

The fire service has been a part of Fire Chief J.B. Moody's entire life. Moody, 42, grew up in Nekoosa, and his father was a volunteer firefighter and paramedic for the Nekoosa Fire Department. "It's been something around our household forever," Moody said. Moody had originally planned to be a flight nurse or an anesthetist, but he went into the United States Air Force and, about three years into nursing school, he was deployed overseas shortly after the Sept.
