Frisbie family creates memorial to benefit Bellevue's District 3 Fire Station

The Bellevue Fire Department accepted a donation from the Frisbie family at a small ceremony on Friday, Aug. 12. "This donation was made in honor of the late Ron Frisbie and was presented to members of the Bellevue Fire Department and the Bellevue Public Safety Foundation by Ron’s wife Jan and his daughter Anne and son John," Phil Davidson, the City of Bellevue's community relations coordinator, said in a Facebook post.

Two dogs perish in Chilton house fire

A family was removed from their home and two dogs died after a house fire in Chilton on Sunday afternoon. According to the Chilton Fire Department, just after 2 p.m., crews responded to a house fire in the 300 block of East Brooklyn Street. At the time of the initial call, officials said the home was reported as being occupied, however, when crews searched the home no one was found inside the residence.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department remembers fallen firefighter 16 years later

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department (GBMFD) is remembering one of their fallen brothers 16 years after his death. According to GBMFD, on August 13, 2006, crews responded to a house fire on Edgewood Drive. Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the home prompting them to begin efforts to knock down the fire.

Stevens Point firefighters 'Fill the Boot' for muscular dystrophy

A central Wisconsin fire department hit the pavement for charity - though their shoes weren't on their feet. The Stevens Point Fire Department wrapped up their two-day Fill the Boot campaign Friday, where firefighters stood on the intersections of Division, Clark and Main streets to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

City of La Crosse Police and Fire Commission names new Fire Chief

The City of La Crosse Police and Fire Commission is announcing Jeffrey Schott is named their selection for the City of La Crosse’s new Fire Chief. According to a media release from the Office of Police and Fire Commission, Schott has been serving as the Interim Assistant Fire Chief-Fire Rescue Operations with the City of La Crosse since April 21, 2022.

Milwaukee Fire Department citizenship requirement dropped by Fire and Police Commission

The Milwaukee Fire Department has opened the door for more people to become firefighters. Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said the change is a long time coming. The Milwaukee Fire Department can now hire anyone who is legally hirable, whether they’re a United States citizen or not. Chief Lipski said the department can benefit from more diversity, people who are multilingual and anyone who wants to serve their community.

Fire on 9th floor of Oshkosh apartment building displaces 14

The Oshkosh Fire Department has provided an update on a fire that displaced 14 people at an apartment complex on Thursday evening. According to a release, crews were dispatched around 10 p.m. on August 11 to the CourtTower apartments on 100 Court Street. When crews arrived a small fire on the ninth floor had been extinguished by the sprinkler system.

Five rescued as 35 ft boat crashes into break wall at Superior port of entry

Five people were rescued after the boat they were on crashed into the break wall at the Lake Superior port of entry on the Minnesota and Wisconsin border. The incident happened at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, with the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and Rescue Squad, U.S. Coast Guard, and Duluth Fire Department called into action.

11-year-old finds comfort at 28th annual Burn Camp in East Troy one year after his accident

The annual Burn Camp, put on by the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charitable Association, took on its 28th season this week. The week-long camp was able to raise over $100,000 to fund the following year’s camp. The camp is made for kids who have suffered life-altering burns. This year, dozens of campers were able to enjoy a week of fun dedicated just to them.

One person injured in Milwaukee house fire

The Milwaukee Fire Department said one person was injured in a house fire Thursday afternoon. The fire happened near 38th and Locust around 11:30 a.m. MFD Deputy Chief Sharon Purifoy-Smoots said the fire was in the basement of a home. When firefighters arrived, there was one person trapped inside. Officials entered the home and helped the person out of the house.

'He was taken from us way too soon': Community remembers 20-year-old Grand Rapids firefighter

Although he had just turned 20 on April 26, Riley Daniel Ray Huiras had an impact on his community that "went far beyond his 20 years of life." "Once you met him, you didn't forget him," Grand Rapids Police Chief Melvin Pedersen said. Huiras, the son of Kevin and Tami Huiras, was an Eagle Scout, played the violin and the piano, worked for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters baseball team, volunteered as an auxiliary officer with the Grand Rapids Police Department and was a firefighter with the Grand Rapids Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire at Milwaukee's Northridge Mall, 4th in 3+ weeks, chief 'over it'

Milwaukee firefighters responded to Milwaukee's "ill-secured, long-vacant Northridge Mall" Wednesday, Aug. 10 for the fourth fire in less than three weeks. Wednesday's fire was upgraded to a second alarm due to the size and "decrepit condition of building." Fire officials said fast work by first responders brought the fire under control.

De Pere fire department celebrates 150 years of service

After 150 years of service the De Pere fire department has gone through many large changes. Despite these changes, the department uses its history to prepare for the future. "We always grow from the big events we have to get a little bit better," said battalion chief Brett Jansen. There's been several large fires in De Pere that have molded the town's history.

Kenosha, Racine see different results on referendums to fund public safety

Voters in Kenosha and Racine saw similar referendum questions when it came to funding public safety, but different results came from the two cities just about 10 miles apart. Both referendums included funding for new police officers. In Racine, additional public safety measures were included. In Kenosha, the referendum also supported new firefighter positions.

Dodge County sheriff: Woman pronounced dead after crash in Township of Emmet

A woman is dead following a crash in the Township of Emmet, in Dodge County, on Tuesday, Aug. 9. Around 5:19 p.m., authorities were called to the northbound off-ramp of State Highway 26 to eastbound travel onto State Highway 16. An initial investigation showed a 2016 Toyota was traveling north on the State Highway 26 off-ramp to eastbound travel of State Highway 16, but the Toyota failed to negotiate the curve.

Western Lakes Fire District referendum fails in five of seven Waukesha County communities

Voters in five of seven Waukesha County communities voted against a referendum Tuesday that called for nearly doubling the annual budget for the Western Lakes Fire District, which would enable the district to address severe staffing shortages. Voters in the towns of Merton, Oconomowoc, Ottawa and villages of Dousman and Summit all voted "no" to the referendum question.

Ahouse near Mount Horeb likely is a total loss after a fire Monday night, authorities reported. Counting 'smiles per hour': Retired Kenosha firefighter completes cross-country bicycle journey

Retired Kenosha Fire Captain Carl Carlson set out On May 15 to cross the country by bicycle. Seventy-three days, 13 states, one Canadian province and 4,020 miles later, he concluded his journey at the Pacific. “It has really been a lifelong goal,” Carlson said. “I’ve been a cyclist pretty much all my life, and it was just something that I had seen done before and read articles on and stuff like that.

Dumpster fire damages 2 homes in Fond du Lac, no injuries reported

No injuries were reported after a dumpster fire in Fond du Lac damaged two homes on Sunday. According to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, fire crews responded to 143 Ellis Street around 6:30 p.m. for the report of a dumpster fire. Shortly after, crews were alerted the fire spread to two nearby homes. A passerby saw the fire, called 911, and alerted occupants of the fire.

Dumpster fire damages two Fond du Lac buildings

A dumpster fire damaged two homes in Fond du Lac Sunday night. Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue says their crew responded to 143 Ellis Street at 6:37 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a large fire spreading from a dumpster containing “household contents”, according to Assistant Chief of Training & Safety James Knowles.
