Fire on Eau Claire's E. Madison St. displaces 13, causes $140,000 in damages

VIDEO: Eau Claire firefighters battled a blaze at a home on East Madison Street Monday afternoon. Tony Biasi, with the Eau Claire Fire Department, said the call came in a little after 2:30 p.m. with reports that people were trapped on the second floor of that complex: "Prior to the fire department's arrival – or just as the fire department was arriving – some neighbors got a ladder and some contractors down the street that used their Bobcat with a bucket to rescue people off that second floor balcony out front.

19 acres burned after brush fire in Bonduel

Fire crews were called to a wildfire at the Navarino State Wildlife Area Sunday. According to the Bonduel Fire Chief, at least 19 acres were burned. Nobody was hurt and the cause of the blaze is unknown. The DNR is leading an investigation.

Family escapes unharmed from Madison house fire on the North Side

A family of three safely escaped a house fire this morning in Madison. It happened in the 800 block of Northland Drive after a person inside a home saw smoke coming from the basement. Firefighters saw smoke when they arrived on scene and began flowing water into the basement window, then put out the fire.

Milwaukee firefighters battle separate porch, garage fires; no one hurt

Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department are investigating two separate fires that happened Sunday, May 7th. The first happened around 10:30 a.m. at a home near Humboldt and Concordia. This was a porch fire that extended to the home’s attic. Everyone in the home was able to get out safely. Three adults were being assisted by the American Red Cross after this fire, which was brought under control within about 20 minutes.

Garages, home damaged in Jackson County fire

VIDEO: The Black River Falls Fire Department says no one is injured following a structure fire in the Township of Irving Saturday afternoon. According to the department, it received a call around 2:30 p.m. for a fire on Nichols Road. Upon arrival, crews found a garage fully engulfed in flames. A nearby home also sustained fire and heat damage.

Intentional Car Fires have Milwaukee Firefighters Training to Become Detectives

Merrill Fire Department hoping to provide in-home care

The Merrill Fire Department is hoping to begin a pilot program that would provide recently released emergency room patients with in-home care. The program is called Community Care Paramedics. “There's a void here in this rural area that we serve.” Merrill Fire Chief Dave Savone said. “What it does is shift the role from this emergency paramedic to a kind of preventative proactive type of thing.

Holmen area sees greater EMS demand

Since the beginning of the year, the Holmen Area Fire Department has been experiencing greater demand for services. HAFD Assistant Chief Bill Bulawa told the Holmen Area Fire District Association Board at its April 20 meeting, the department has responded to 99 calls since the board’s March meeting. “We’re running,” said Bulawa.

Update: Milwaukee fire captain pleads not guilty, accused of strangling, beating his girlfriend

47-year-old Leon Butts — a high-ranking Milwaukee firefighter facing several domestic abuse charges after he allegedly beat and strangled his live-in girlfriend, appeared in court Friday, May 5th for a preliminary hearing and a bail/bond hearing. During the hearings, Butts plead not guilty and the court found probable cause and bound Butts over for trial.

Kate Goodrich 5th graders win Merrill Fire Department tour

VIDEO: About two dozen families around Merrill should feel a little safer now. All 24 students in Jay Peterson's 5th grade class at Kate Goodrich Elementary filled out a home fire safety evaluation. Fire rips through apartment complex in Mukwonago

VIDEO: The State Fire Marshal is investigating after a fire at a construction site in Mukwonago. Crews were on the scene for hours. Around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 4th, smoke could been seen for miles as flames engulfed an apartment building at Phantom Woods Road and Main Street in Mukwonago. "Fortunately, the water service was in place, so we were able to use the hydrants that were here," said Mukwonago Fire Chief Jeffrey Stien.

Cause of Dane County landfill fire deemed accidental

Multiple crews had to respond to a fire at the Dane County landfill on Madison’s southeast side early Thursday morning after a pile of construction materials caught fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene of the fire at 7102 U.S. Highway 12-18 just after 5 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived, they found a pile of rubbish on fire in the area of a building the houses construction waste.

Former Milwaukee firefighter accepts deal, pleads guilty in Opening Day crash that killed two

VIDEO: A former Milwaukee firefighter took a plea deal on Tuesday, pleading guilty to two of four charges connected to a crash that killed two people following last year's Opening Day game at Miller Park. Joshua Larson pleaded guilty to two counts of homicide by use of a vehicle with a PAC (prohibited alcohol concentration).

Merrill Fire Department to pursue Community Care Paramedic pilot program

As part of last week’s meeting of the city’s Health and Safety Committee, Merrill Fire Chief Dave Savone received the green light to move forward with a Community Care Paramedic pilot program. As Savone explains, the program has been utilized by EMS services and fire departments nationwide and around the state for quite some time; including Wausau and Stevens Point.

Man, child killed in Shullsburg house fire, officials say

A man and a child were killed Wednesday in a house fire in Shullsburg, police said. Emergency crews were called to a home on Victor Street just before 2:30 a.m., officials said. Crews were eventually able to put out the fire. According to a release from the Shullsburg Police Department, a man was pronounced dead at the scene, and four other people were taken to an area hospital.

New southeast Madison fire station to include training area, community room

With additional funding approved by the Madison City Council Tuesday, the Madison Fire Department will be able to expand its southeast side fire station that includes training space and a community meeting room. The approved resolution authorizes the fire department to design Fire Station 14 with an additional 6,000 square feet — totaling a 20,000 square feet station — at a total estimated cost of $6.

Oshkosh assistant fire chief to retire Friday

The Oshkosh Fire Department's second in command is stepping down after more than three decades with the department. Assistant Chief Jeff Schettle will retire Friday, the department announced Wednesday. He has served the city for nearly 33 years. Schettle started as a firefighter/paramedic with the department in 1984, rising through the ranks to become lieutenant in 1998 and captain in 2005, according to a department news release.

Follow Up: Man lured kids into Green Bay bar, torched it

VIDEO: An 18-year-old homeless man will spend five years in prison for trying to burn a restaurant down while holding children prisoner there. Jesus A. Castilloveitia-Quinton will spend another 19 years on extended supervision following his prison term, Brown County Circuit Judge Kendall Kelley ordered Tuesday.

Wausau paramedics react to Dallas shooting

VIDEO: In the wake of a shooting in Dallas that left a paramedic in critical condition, first responders from the Wausau Fire Department said the incident reminds them of the potential danger they face on every call. Engineer Kurt Riel said even though the incident happened 1,000 miles away, it still hits home for the 20-year veteran of the department.
