South Area Fire District gets new $650K truck

The South Area Fire Response District unveiled it's new $650,000 fire truck. It's meant to do the job of multiple rescue vehicles. It's the first new rig purchased since multiple fire departments merged to create the SAFER District. The truck was welcomed with a traditional "wet down" ceremony where the firefighters wet down the entire truck and then push it back into the garage.

Authorities: No evidence of foul play in death of 39-year-old man in Janesville fire

Two rescued from partially submerged truck on Lake Winneconne

Firefighters used an airboat Sunday night to rescue two people from a partially submerged truck that had gone through the ice on Lake Winneconne. Lt. Craig Quick of the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office said the truck had stopped sinking. "One individual was stuck inside the vehicle, and one was out of the vehicle on the roof of the truck," Quick said.

Pittsville pond fills with firefighters for rescue training

VIDEO: I crawled to the edge of the ice and slid into the water, and my extra-large neoprene suit suctioned to my body. I felt warm and buoyant — very unlike a drowning victim, even though I played that part at an ice-rescue training hosted by the Pittsville Fire Co. on Saturday. The exercise drew firefighters from as far as Sheboygan who spent time in a classroom with instructors, then suited up to practice in an icy pond.

Sun Prairie apartment complex "complete loss" after fire

VIDEO: Multiple fire departments and other agencies are helping put the fire out in Sun Prairie. Beloit Fire makes bulletproof vests mandatory for paramedics on disturbance calls

VIDEO: In these uncertain times, come new mandatory measures for Beloit Fire Paramedics. The first responders are now required to wear bullet proof vests on disturbance calls. One death reported after Janesville house fire on South Main Street Sunday night

One person died Sunday night after a house fire on South Main Street, Janesville Fire Chief Randy Banker said at about 9 p.m. A report of a house fire at 603 S. Main St. came in to authorities about 8 p.m., according to a Janesville Police Department news release. Banker said first responders found a fully engulfed house fire with one person trapped.

Holmen Area Fire Department works on mutual aid plans

The Holmen Area Fire District is working to expand its mutual aid agreements. Barn destroyed by fire in Town of Eagle

A horse barn in rural Eagle was destroyed by fire early this morning. The fire was reported around 1:15 AM at a residence off Draper Road south of Eagle. A 16 by 20 foot pole barn that housed two horses was on fire. The horses were evacuated unharmed from the barn and no individuals were injured. Firefighters were on the scene for about 2-and-a-half hours.

Hot dogs help firefighters rescue canine on thin ice in Racine County

Hot dogs helped firefighters rescue a dog stranded on an icy pond Thursday afternoon. The rescue call came in at about 12:30 p.m. after someone spotted a chow mix walking on the ice of a large pond near the 7300 block of Old Spring Street. The dog had a leash attached and it was later determined to have escaped its owner.

Altoona narrows search for new fire chief

The city of Altoona's search for a new chief to lead the fire department is close to coming to an end. City representatives said Wednesday that they have narrowed down the number of applicants from 12 to five. Some of the finalists include individuals right from Altoona and around the area. Before a job offer is made, the city will be holding a public meet and greet as an opportunity for the potential hires to interact with the community that they will be serving.

Racine firefighters battle stubborn fire at dealership garage

Racine firefighters spent more than three hours early Wednesday battling a stubborn fire in a garage at a car dealership. Johnsen named new Sussex fire chief

The Sussex Fire Commission appointed David Johnsen to serve as the new Sussex fire chief on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Johnsen will join the Sussex Fire Department on Feb. 27; he is fulfilling his final work commitments with his current employer, the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District in Illinois. Johnsen started his 30-year career in fire service with the New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department.

Follow Up: Assistant Chief, 53, Found Dead of Heart Attack at Eldorado Fire Station

The assistant chief of the Eldorado Volunteer Fire Department was found dead at the fire station on Jan. 10, hours after a meeting. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, a firefighter found Assistant Fire Chief Rodney “Tiny” Menne, 53, at 2 a.m. deceased from an apparent heart attack. The USFA has provisionally listed the event as a line of duty death.

Two Milwaukee mobile homes catch fire, spread to nearby building

Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department are investigating after two mobile homes catch on fire — and the flames spread to a nearby building. Firefighters were called to the area of 38th and Vliet just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, January 25th. Upon arrival, crews found two mobile homes, which were parked behind a business building, in flames.

Fire destroys Winnebago County barn, multiple vehicles

A fire on Tuesday afternoon destroyed a barn and multiple vehicles that were stored inside. The barn was engulfed when firefighters arrived, according to Winnebago County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Kroncke. No one was injured in the blaze at 1911 Winnebago County II. But seven or eight vehicles that were being stored inside the structure were destroyed, said town of Neenah Fire Chief Ed King.

Firefighter hurt while fighting fire at mobile tattoo parlor in Milwaukee

A firefighter was injured while responding to a fire in Milwaukee early Wednesday morning. The fire was reported around 2:00 a.m. near 38th and Vliet streets. It appears that the fire started in a mobile tattoo parlor parked outside a tattoo shop. Flames spread from the truck to the business and caused significant damage.

Holmen Fire Department focuses fire safety education on different age groups

VIDEO: A local fire department is approaching fire safety education in a new way. The Holmen Fire Department will focus on common mistakes made by people in different age groups. Couple displaced after Reedsburg house fire

A Reedsburg family is homeless after a fire broke out on Jan. 23. The house, located on Enterprise Drive near South Dewey Avenue, was destroyed despite firefighters working for hours to knock down the flames. Basement fire forces family from De Pere home

A De Pere family is forced from their home Tuesday morning after an overnight house fire. Just before 2 .m., De Pere Fire Rescue was called to a home on Vista Circle when the homeowner found a fire in their basement. The homeowner put out part of the fire with his own fire extinguisher before fire crews arrived.
