Waukesha Firehouse Subs owners looking to give back

As workers bustled around Waukesha's first Firehouse Subs on Tuesday, April 25 just minutes before the restaurant officially opened, new owner Scott Weidner outlined his goals for the business. He said he wanted the Waukesha location, 180 E. Sunset Drive, which he owns with his wife Jennifer, to eventually become the one that donates the most money to Firehouse's non-profit Public Safety Foundation, and as a business that gives back to the community.

Fire damages Gundersen storage building; cause under investigation

Authorities are investigating a fire that caused minor damage to a La Crosse storage building Monday afternoon. A fire was reported at 2300 South Avenue shortly after 3 p.m., according to the La Crosse Fire Department. Firefighters extinguished the fire within 10 minutes. The building, which is owned by Gundersen Health Systems and used for storage, was unoccupied at the time.

Fire closes West Baraboo hotel's restaurant

A West Baraboo hotel’s restaurant will be closed for at least two weeks after a fire broke out there early Sunday morning. Best Western front desk employee Stephanie Wills said officials still were assessing the damage Monday afternoon at Bonzos Bar & Grill Restaurant, and a cause had not yet been determined.

Fire danger "High" in the Northwoods, DNR temporarily suspends burning permits

Sixty-three Wildfires burned all across the state in the last week. The DNR suspended burning permits in 44 counties Monday, including all counties in the Northwoods. The fire danger level ranged from "High" to "Very High" in most counties. DNR fire crews have been on stand-by all day Monday. "On days like today we are fully staffed and on high alert.

Small fire breaks out after three rail cars derail near Brown Deer

Three rail cars derailed on a train in northwest Milwaukee County on Monday, starting a small brush fire that officials believe was caused by sparks. There were no injuries, no release of materials nor any hazardous materials involved in the small derailment on the Union Pacific railroad near North 107th Street and West Brown Deer Road in the town of Granville, a rail spokesman said.

Follow Up: Anger, concern after shots fired at Milwaukee fire station

VIDEO: Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan and others reacted with anger and concern after a Milwaukee Fire Department station near Teutonia and Locust was shot at on Sunday, April 23rd. A bullet penetrated the window of Station 30 during the shots fired incident. It happened around 6:45 p.m. as the firefighters at Station 30 were getting dispatched to a car fire.

Milwaukee fire station hit by gunfire

VIDEO: For the second time this year, a Milwaukee fire station has been hit by gunfire. The most recent case happened around 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Station 30 near Teutonia Avenue and Locust Street. An official with the fire department said firefighters heard a loud noise and breaking glass as they were heading out to a call.

Ashland: Mortar rounds found to be inert; ordinance discovery led to evacuations

The discovery of apparent pieces of military ordinance following a garage fire in Ashland led to the evacuation of part of an Ashland neighborhood Friday afternoon before it was later determined that they were both inert mortar training rounds. According to a statement issued by Ashland Mayor Debra Lewis, the discovery came when an Ashland firefighter, conducting a post fire investigation, discovered what state officials tentatively identified as an M69 mortar round.

Three hurt in Madison house fire

VIDEO: Madison Fire Department officials are trying to figure out what started a fire that sent three people to the hospital early Sunday morning. An MFD spokesperson tells 27 News, the injuries were minor, and the three should be okay. The fire started a little after 3:00 a.m. at a home on N Roby Rd.

Firefighters get realistic training to protect Marathon County residents

VIDEO: Firefighters in Marathon County are improving their already tough job by training in a real life situation. A training burn held in the Town of Maine, just north of Wausau, helped firefighters Saturday. The Maine Fire Chief Joe Bozinski said the department has been using the unoccupied home after a party offered it to the fire department to use for training.

Closing arguments begin in Milwaukee double homicide/arson case

VIDEO: Closing arguments are being held Friday in the trial of a Milwaukee man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend and her daughter and then setting the house on fire in order to cover up the crime. Patrick Fowler took the stand Thursday in his defense and told jurors that someone else stabbed the victims.

Statewide tornado drill raises question: Are tornado sirens obsolete?

Pine River Fire Department to host First Responder course

The Town of Pine River Fire Department, in conjunction with the SAFER Fire District, are hosting a 70-hour Emergency First Responder Course at the Pine River Fire Station. The class allows students to complete a training course in emergency care and be licensed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Health.

La Crosse firefighter honored for saving lives

VIDEO: A La Crosse firefighter is being recognized for his bravery while saving the lives of multiple people earlier this month. While responding to a house fire on Ferry Street on April 7th, Firefighter Brian Green of Engine 1 rescued two people who were stuck on the second floor. After bringing one person down the ladder, Green climbed it again and removed the window frame to allow a second person to fit through before carrying her to safety.

Officials: Lightning causes house fire in Outagamie County

VIDEO: No one was injured after an overnight house fire in Outagamie County. It broke out around 1:30 at a home on Valley View Drive in the Town of Ellington. Officials say lightning hit a gas meter. "Gas meter hit by lightning. When we got on scene, we found a one story single family home with fire coming out of the roof already," said Ellington Fire Chief Jim Bentle.

Milwaukee firefighter speaks out about being injured battling a fire

Poynette-Dekorra Fire Department to buy SCBAs

After approval by the Poynette-Dekorra-Lowville Fire Commission, the Poynette-Dekorra Fire Department will purchase breathing apparatus to replace five 1999 pieces. At its April 4 meeting, the commission unanimously approved the transfer of funds from the contingency/vehicle replacement fund for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) gear.

Storm damage, power outages reported across SE Wisconsin

VIDEO: Thousands of people were left without power after a strong storm passed through southeast Wisconsin early Thursday morning. Nearly 11,000 people were still without power as of 8:30 a.m. The storm brought down trees and power lines across the area. There are reports of damage from Waukesha, Milwaukee and Racine counties.
