Arbitrator awards fired Sun Prairie paramedics $622,252

Two fired City of Sun Prairie paramedics have been awarded more than a half a million dollars by an arbitrator after being cleared of any wrongdoing in a patient’s care. City officials say they will meet on Feb. 7 and decide whether to pay or appeal the award in court. Sun Prairie EMS Paramedics John Uebelacker and Matthew Schaller were dismissed on Feb.

Woman dies after being rescued from mobile home fire in Oak Creek

VIDEO: A 54-year-old woman has died after being rescued from a mobile home fire in Oak Creek Monday night, February 6th. The fire broke out around 10:45 p.m. in a mobile home near 27th Street and College Avenue. Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of the fire -- but the Oak Creek Fire Chief says it does not appear to be suspicious.

Follow Up: Waldo Fire Department mourns after firefighter dies in crash

VIDEO: The Waldo Fire Department is in mourning after one of its firefighters died in a weekend crash. The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Ryan Moyer was killed in the crash Saturday afternoon in the Town of Lyndon. Moyer was driving a pickup truck when it crashed. Two other firefighters were injured.

1 person taken to hospital after Stevens Point apartment fire

VIDEO: Portage County fire crews responded to an apartment fire Monday night. Authorities said a woman was taken to Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital and was being treated for smoke inhalation. The fire broke out around 7 p.m. on Martha's Lane in Stevens Point. According to fire officials on the scene, the fire appears to have started in the kitchen of one of the units.

Follow Up: Firefighters speak out against new state proposal

VIDEO: A group of Wisconsin fire chiefs are speaking out against a new state proposal. The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services has proposed rule changes that goes against the current National Electric Code. According to state firefighters, the proposal would stop nationally required electrical fire and electrocution prevention devices throughout new homes, college dormitories and hotels.

Update: Peterson declines offer to be Altoona Fire Chief

A city's pick for its first full-time fire chief has passed on the job. In a statement Thursday afternoon, Altoona City Administrator Mike Golat said that Chad Peterson turned down the offer "after serious consideration." The statement said that Peterson said he made the decision because of family obligations.

Rockland home a total loss following fire

VIDEO: A house near Bangor is considered a total loss following a fire Thursday afternoon. The Bangor-Burns Fire Department was called to Portland Street in the Village of Rockland at about 2:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the back of the home was completely engulfed in flames. According to Fire Chief Robert Rueckheim, both people who live in the house were at work at the time of the fire and are now receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

Milwaukee firefighters find woman unconscious in living room of home near 25th and Melvina; her son got out safely

Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department found a woman unconscious in the living room of a home near 25th and Melvina. It happened on Thursday evening, February 2nd. Fire officials said the woman had no pulse, but paramedics worked on her at the scene. She was breathing and had a pulse when she was taken to the hospital.

Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Goes To School For New Recruits

In an effort to step up recruitment for volunteer fire fighters, three Southern Door High School juniors began training this week for a possible opportunity in the field. Austin Vandertie, Nathan Lenius, and Jared Baudhuin have added trainings and meetings at the Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to their slate as students.

Building fire put out east of Eau Claire

A metal storage building caught fire Wednesday night in the town of Washington, causing damage to the property owned by Management Select. According to a Township Fire Department news release: Township Fire units were dispatch at about 8:35 p.m. to 7621 Prill Road, just east of Eau Claire. An Eau Claire County sheriff’s deputy was the first to arrive on scene and reported smoke coming from the building.

New, full-time fire chief for Altoona to be announced

The search for Altoona's first, full-time fire chief is over. The Altoona Police and Fire Commission said it made a decision Wednesday night, but the new chief's name won't be released until Thursday morning. A total of 12 people applied for the position. Beaver Dam area towns warming up to new rural fire contract

The five towns in the Beaver Dam Community Fire and Rescue Association are closing in on agreement for a new three-year contract. “From our end we are pretty much happy,” Neal Stippich, chairperson for the Beaver Dam Town Board said over the phone. At the moment, the contract is making its way through the Beaver Dam, Calamus, Lowell, Westford and Trenton town boards.

Eagle Point considers fire hall options

It’s a tight squeeze fitting fire trucks and other equipment into the Eagle Point Fire Station, which was built in the 1970s. Things will get much tighter once the fire department gets a new 18-foot-plus trailer with a hitch. “Right now we can fit it in here, but you wipe out the meeting space,” said Joel Woodruff, deputy fire chief.
