Sun Prairie Fire Chief rips proposed changes impacting state fire regulation

Sun Prairie Fire Chief Chris Garrison joined other fire chiefs on Monday, Feb. 13 in calling on Gov. Scott Walker to expand the use of circuit interrupters in new Wisconsin homes -- just days after teaming up with his fellow chiefs to oppose changes to state fire sprinkler standards. “Anything under 20 units didn’t require sprinklers, which to me, is a huge step back,” Garrison said, referring to the proposed legislation that would have changed sprinkler regulations for multi-unit dwellings.

Female firefighters rare on central Wisconsin forces

VIDEO: The majority of fire departments across the nation and Central Wisconsin have very few women on the force. It's a tough job, but the women who are employed or volunteer for area departments believe anyone, no matter their gender, can do it. Shots fired into Milwaukee fire station, forcing it to close

Gunfire struck a Milwaukee Fire Department fire station on the west side Friday afternoon, forcing the station to close, fire department officials said. Multiple shots were fired into Engine Co. 13 at 2901 N. 30th St. about 1 p.m., a news release from the department said. No department members were injured.

Victims of Pittsfield fire identified

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has identified two people found dead following a house fire in the Town of Pittsfield. Investigators say the victims were 49-year-old Allen J. Renier, and 41-year-old Molly B. Brochman. On Friday, firefighters were called to a home on Tamarack Drive between Oak Hill Drive and Westline Road, between Pulaski and Green Bay.

1 dead in Kronenwetter crash, fire

PHOTO: One person is dead after two vehicles collided and hit a house in Kronenwetter Friday, sparking a small fire, according the Marathon County Sheriff's Department. The crash closed all lanes of Highway 153 in both directions just east of Pioneer Road, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

1 adult, 3 children escape Oconomowoc fire

An adult and three children escaped a fire at a rental property southwest of downtown Oconomowoc on Thursday night. Firefighters were called to 621 Highland Ave. at 9:54 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 for a structure fire and found black smoke billowing out of the home, according to a news release from Oconomowoc Deputy Fire Chief Glenn Leidel.

Fire officals: Family unaccounted for in Brown County fire

VIDEO: Firefighters are trying to determine if anyone was home during an early morning house fire in Brown County. Pulaski Fire Chief James Styczymski tells NBC26 that right now crews are investigating who lived at the home on Tamarack Drive in the Town of Pittsfield. Firefighters rescue dog from icy Wisconsin River

VIDEO: Firefighters with the Kilbourn Fire Department performed a nighttime rescue on the icy waters of the Wisconsin River, saving a dog named Milo. The black dog was spotted by people several miles upriver floating on a piece of ice. The dog floated down the river for two hours before firefighters were able to rescue it.

Fire destroys shed, damages outside of Kenosha home

Quick action by homeowners probably saved their home from fire Wednesday. “The homeowners did an excellent job in calling us immediately. It absolutely kept the fire from entering their home,” Kenosha Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Haerter said. “Another few minutes, the fire would have spread to the attic, and we’d have a far different outcome.

Green Bay leaders discuss repairs to 9/11 memorial

Man Killed in Condo Fire in Greenfield

VIDEO: A Greenfield man is dead after a fire broke out inside his condominium unit Wednesday afternoon. New CPR machine changing how Stevens Point paramedics save lives

VIDEO: A new CPR device is changing the way paramedics in Stevens Point save lives. Its called Lucas CPR, a machine that acts as a another set of hands doing chest compressions. It does 100-104 compressions per minute. The machine costs about $15,000. It was donated to the Stevens Point Fire Department recently.

Crews respond to Uptown Racine fire

About $3,000 damage resulted from a fire Tuesday morning at a commercial building in the Uptown area. The fire, which was reported at about 9:15 a.m., originated on the second floor of the building at 1232 Washington Ave. on pallets holding folded cardboard, Racine Fire Department Lt. Mike Moss said.

Family of five homeless after fire guts Portage home

A house on East Conant Street near downtown Portage was gutted by fire Tuesday morning, sending up a plume of smoke visible from blocks away and leaving a family of five without a home. “I thought, ‘What the hell is he hollering about?’” said neighbor Kim Kelly, who was in her living room at the time.

Milwaukee firefighters respond to house fire; Fire Department squad involved in crash

Firefighters on Tuesday evening, February 14th responded to a fire at a home near Fond du Lac and Mill. It happened around 6:00 p.m. Crews found fire on the home’s second floor. FOX6 News was told one person was hurt after she jumped from a second-story window. She was taken to the hospital with an ankle injury.

Jacksonport fire station renovation planned

Requests for bids for construction of additions to the Jacksonport Town Hall and Fire Department were released to contractors after Town Board approval of final plans for the project last week. Town Chairman Randy Halstead said the plans include erecting a new town office and meeting space in an area now used for parking on the east side of the present structure, located on Door County Highway V — a block west of State Highway 57.

Arson fire displaces Milwaukee family, police looking for answers

Wisconsin fire officials ask Gov. Walker to adopt proposed safety measures

Wisconsin fire officials are asking Gov. Scott Walker's administration to expand the use of circuit interrupters in newly built homes, a step they say would prevent fires and save lives. The request comes from recommendations made last year by an advisory committee of experts. The state Department of Safety and Professional Services initially opted not to adopt that recommendation, but has not taken final action on the matter.

5 rescued from Greenfield apartment complex fire; no one injured

VIDEO: Greenfield firefighters on Monday morning, February 13th responded to the scene of a fire at an apartment complex near 100th and Oklahoma. The call came in around 6:30 a.m. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the building. Officials say five people had to be rescued from a second story apartment.
