5 rescued from Greenfield apartment complex fire; no one injured

VIDEO: Greenfield firefighters on Monday morning, February 13th responded to the scene of a fire at an apartment complex near 100th and Oklahoma. The call came in around 6:30 a.m. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the building. Officials say five people had to be rescued from a second story apartment.

Fire destroys apartment building in Onalaska

Firefighters spent Saturday afternoon battling a stubborn blaze that destroyed an eight-unit apartment building in the 600 block of 13th Avenue South in Onalaska. Streets were closed and electricity temporarily shut off around 13th Avenue South and Green Bay Street, and the Onalaska Fire Department called the Campbell Fire Department for help with the fire, which was reported shortly after noon.

FBI investigates Milwaukee Fire Department Station 29; officials remain tight-lipped

VIDEO: The Milwaukee Division of the FBI has announced an investigation into Milwaukee Fire Department Station 29 on the city's south side. As a result of this, MFD officials are launching their own investigation -- looking into any possible employee misconduct. Officials are remaining very tight-lipped as to the circumstances surrounding the investigation -- leaving many with more questions than answers.

Dane County departments train for drone rescues

The way emergency responders search for missing persons is changing in Dane County. "In the past, traditional search, methods would be where they line up to do a grid search," says Middleton firefighter Josh Larson. But Middleton Fire Department wants to be ahead of the curve when it comes to locating missing persons.

“He was very dedicated:” Memorial service held for Waldo firefighter killed in rollover crash

VIDEO: Fire departments from across Wisconsin are remembering one of their own. Waldo volunteer firefighter, Ryan Moyer, died one week ago in a single-car accident. Two other members of the Waldo department were injured. The streets surrounding Blessed Trinity Parish were packed with fire trucks as firefighters throughout Wisconsin mourned the loss of Moyer.

New Eau Claire fire station delayed by land purchase negotiations

Ongoing negotiations regarding the purchase of property that would be home to a new Eau Claire fire station have delayed the proposed timeline for that project. Firefighter hurt battling Kewaskum apartment building fire

A firefighter was hurt Friday night while battling a fire in an apartment building in Kewaskum. The Kewaskum Fire Department was called to the eight-unit building at 222 Brantz Drive just after 7:30 p.m. Friday. Heavy smoke and fire was coming from the second floor of the northeast corner of the building.

Thick smoke, zero visibility for firefighters battling Georgia Pacific fire in Green Bay

VIDEO: A forklift overheated and caught fire at the Georgia Pacific Paper Mill early Friday morning. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department was called to the mill on Broadway Street at about 2 a.m. The fire broke out in a paper storage area, where bales of scrap paper and cardboard caught fire. Firefighters encountered thick smoke, and had zero visibility at times while battling the blaze.

Fire destroys iconic former music club in Milwaukee

VIDEO: Firefighters spent just more than an hour battling flames at a vacant building at 2612 W. State St. on Thursday evening. The two-alarm fire gutted what once was the State Theater (1915-1955) and eventually a well-known music club where several big names started their careers in the late 70s and early 80s.

Meeting held for Altoona fire chief position

VIDEO: The Altoona City Council met to discuss the plans moving forward in hiring its first full-time fire chief including the wage for the position on Thursday. Originally, the starting salary for the position was between $48,000 and $60,000 a year, but now the median salary for the job will be $67,000 according to the city administrator.

Town of Ottawa OKs Western Lakes Fire District

Western Lakes Fire District — Lake Country’s newest and one of its largest consolidated fire and emergency medical response departments — will begin operations March 2. However, Ottawa, Oconomowoc, Summit and Dousman — the four presumed "owners" of the new, consolidated department — are already reaping the benefits of the consolidation of the Dousman Fire District and Oconomowoc Fire Department, according to Ottawa Town Chairman Richard Arrowood.

Firefighters from multiple departments battle blaze at barn in Sheboygan County

VIDEO: Officials on Thursday morning, February 9th were on the scene of a barn fire in Sheboygan County. The call came in around 3:11 a.m. According to authorities, the Sheboygan County Joint Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting flames and smoke visible on Smies Road, west of State Highway 32, in the Town of Holland.

Wisconsin moves towards self-insurance system for state employee health care

Wisconsin may soon be heading into the health insurance business. The state’s Group Insurance Board on Wednesday approved a plan that would alter the way the state provides health insurance for its employees, moving to a self-insured model where the state pays for medical bills directly instead of paying premiums to private health insurance companies.

Gov. Scott Walker's administration quickly reverses itself on fire sprinkler decision

Gov. Scott Walker’s administration abruptly backed off Wednesday on plans to roll back a requirement for fire sprinklers, but the state might not adopt other safety standards that firefighters say would save lives. In recent weeks, Walker's Department of Safety and Professional Services has quietly advanced plans to end the requirement that fire sprinklers be installed in apartment buildings with three to 20 units.

Attic fire under control in Wausau

VIDEO: A fire is under control after flames were spotted shooting out of an attic at a Wausau home, according to the Wausau Fire Department. It happened around 5:30 a.m. on the 1300 block of N. 4th Street. Residents were home at the time, but everyone escaped safely, according to officials. Firefighters had the blaze under control in a half hour, but remain on scene looking for hot spots, officials said.

Oconomowoc approves fire district; Dousman to vote Monday

The common council on Tuesday night unanimously approved the creation of a fire district with three nearby municipalities, which city officials say will save money in the long run and provide round-the-clock EMS service. The Summit Village Board approved the agreement on Feb. 2, and the village of Dousman and the town of Ottawa must still approve it before it is made official.

Firefighters use hovercraft to rescue two fishermen on Delavan Lake

VIDEO: Two men had to be rescued from Delavan Lake in a hovercraft after their ATV broke through the ice Tuesday morning. Witnesses told first responders they heard the ATV go through the ice but could not see the men because of the dense fog in the area. "The fog was 100 percent dense. You couldn't see more than 50 to 75 feet.

Wilson may bend rules to keep fire chief

Brian Schmitt is still facing questions about his long-term future as the head of the Town of Wilson’s fire department. But elected officials are considering giving him some wiggle room around a firefighting certification requirement he currently doesn’t meet. The town last year agreed to a set of bylaws for its new municipal fire department that would require its fire officers to have a certain certification.

Pay scale increased for Altoona fire chief position

The city of Altoona hasn't even hired its first full-time fire chief yet, but the position already may be in line for a raise. Just four days after the top candidate from a previous search elected not to accept the job, the city's Personnel Committee voted unanimously Monday to increase the pay scale offered to the fire chief.
