Update: Beaver Dam firefighter released from hospital after training exercise crash

The Beaver Dam Fire Department says a firefighter who was hospitalized after an airboat crash during ice rescue training earlier this week is now out of the hospital. In an update posted Thursday, department officials say the firefighter was able to return home on Wednesday, but there is no timetable for his return to duty as of now.

Four cats perish in La Crosse duplex fire caused by stove top that was left on

No people are hurt but four cats are killed in a fire at a duplex on the south side of La Crosse Tuesday afternoon. Battalion Chief Blane Neher said the call came in at around 1:40 p.m. for a fire at 919 Redfield Street. Heavy smoke was coming from the one half of the duplex when crews arrived. Because of the fire, the resident who lived next door was evacuated.

Man and woman rescued from ice near Stockbridge

A man and a woman became trapped on the ice on the east side of Lake Winnebago Wednesday morning. Stockbridge Fire Chief Mike Funk says a call to rescuers came at 8:53 a.m. Funk said the Stockbridge Fire & Rescue and Town of Calumet Fire Department responded and rescued them shortly after 10 a.m. without deploying any boats.

100,000 gallons of water used on rural Dunn County house fire

VIDEO/PHOTO: A fire Tuesday night resulted in the loss of a home in rural Dunn County. According to Durand fire chief Jamey King, the first call came in just before 9:30 p.m. for a woodshed on fire. While crews were on their way to the scene on County Road O, more calls came in stating the house was also on fire.

Fire damages American Legion Post in Lake Tomahawk

PHOTO: A fire in the basement of American Legion Post 318 left fire, smoke and water damage to the building, Lake Tomahawk's Fire Chief said. Chief Billy Kuckkahn said the call for the fire came in at 12:46 Tuesday afternoon. The Post is close to the fire department, so Kuckkahn said the response was swift, and they were able to put the fire out fast.

Fire crews respond to residential fire in Vernon County

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Fire departments on Tuesday morning responded to a residential fire in Vernon County. The call came in around 3:30 a.m. for a house fire that spread to the garage in La Farge. When crews arrived on scene, both structures were almost fully engulfed in flames. According to La Farge Assistant Fire Chief Troy Deaver, Viola Fire Department provided mutual aid.

Jogger falls through thinning ice during run on Lake Mendota

The Madison Fire Department says a jogger fell through the thinning ice of Lake Mendota on Monday afternoon. The fire department's Lake Rescue Team was dispatched to Lake Mendota near the Memorial Union at about 3:45 p.m. Monday after getting a report that someone had fallen through the ice. The first crews arrived on the scene three minutes later, with first responders seeing a person on the ice about 50 feet from shore who was walking toward land.

Truck crashes into auto repair building in Kenosha County, causes ‘substantial’ damage

PHOTOS: Authorities in southern Wisconsin responded to a vehicle vs building incident that caused significant damage. According to the Salem Lakes Fire/Rescue, it responded to a vehicle vs building incident. Officials say there were no reported injuries, but damage to the building was substantial. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

Three Beaver Dam firefighters injured in air boat crash

VIDEO: Three firefighters with the Beaver Dam Fire Department were injured in an air boat crash on Beaver Dam Lake Monday night. In a post to Facebook, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened just after 7:40 p.m. in the area of Grape Island on the lake. Officials say the crash happened on Grape Island during training operations, but add that the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

PHOTOS: Two people escape house fire in town of Albion

Two people escaped a house fire in the town of Albion Monday morning, according to the Lakeside Fire-Rescue chief. Chief Randall Pickering told 27 News a passerby saw the fire on the 1400-block of County Highway A, just north of Edgerton, and called 911 shortly after 7 a.m. Pickering said a father and son were home when the fire started.

Milwaukee police, firefighters ice skate with community downtown

VIDEO: In downtown Milwaukee, people – and heroes – grabbed capes and skates Saturday for the 3rd annual "Ice CAPE-ade." Wasuau area barn burns down; several pigs die

VIDEO/PHOTO: A fire broke out at a barn near Wausau Friday morning. The call came in between 5:00 and 5:30 Friday morning. Rick Walters is the Town of Texas fire chief and said the barn was fully engulfed in flames upon the arrival of firefighters. Around 12:30 in the afternoon, there was still smoke billowing from the barn as well as some small remaining flames, but Walters said the fire had been contained and that there was no concern of it spreading.

Wausau Fire Department: How closing your bedroom door at night could save your life

Wisconsin DNR to start winter prescribed burns

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that fire management crews are starting to perform prescribed burns on DNR properties throughout the state where local conditions can provide a safe and effective burn. DNR crews will be burning cattail marshes, wetlands, prairies and oak/pine barrens to clear the buildup of dead vegetation and to open waterways for waterfowl to feed and nest.

Milwaukee Fire Department Responds to fatal apartment fire

VIDEOS: One person is dead following an apartment fire in Milwaukee on Thursday morning, Feb. 8. Crews were called out to the area of 22nd and Layton around 6:45 a.m. The Milwaukee Fire Department removed five people from the building. Dozens of others self evacuated. Two people were taken to the hospital.

Fire in Suamico causes around $150K in damages and leaves five without a home

PHOTOS: Authorities in Brown County say that a house is inhabitable after an early morning fire caused around $150,000 in damages. Crews were sent to the 2200 block of Pinecrest Road in the village of Suamico around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of a two-story farmhouse on fire with heavy smoke and flames in the basement.

VIDEO: According to National Fire Protection Association, half of the firefighters today are between the ages of 30 and 49. At NWTC, they're having no problem in bringing younger people to the industry. Life as a firefighter — it's something Savannah Sinkula has been familiar with from a young age. "I'm a third generation firefighter, but a first generation career firefighter within my family," Savannah Sinkula, a Fire Medic student at NWTC, said.

Milwaukee Fire Department responds to house fire, no injuries

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Firefighters on Wednesday morning, Feb. 7, responded to the scene of a vacant house fire near 15th and Lincoln in Milwaukee. Crews responded to the scene around 6:15 a.m. The Milwaukee Fire Department tells FOX6 News the house is boarded up and condemned by the city, which means they can’t fight the fire inside, only from the exterior.
