Racine bedroom fire accelerated by portable oxygen generator

A fire early Sunday morning, Jan. 7, caused thousands of dollars in damage to a Racine home. According to the Racine Fire Department, at about 2:44 a.m., firefighters responded to a single family home on McKinley Avenue for a bedroom fire. When they arrived, they encountered a bed and bedding on fire in a first floor bedroom.

No injuries reported in Slinger car fire

PHOTO: A station wagon went up in flames in Slinger on Saturday morning, Jan. 6. It happened near Lovers Lane and Glacier Pass – north of State Highway 60 near the interstate – around 10:30 a.m. Photos posted on the Slinger Police Department's Facebook page showed the extent of the fire, which fully engulfed the station wagon.

Milton breeder devastated after 25 puppies killed in fire

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A Milton dog breeder is still in shock after she said a New Year’s Day fire killed 25 of her puppies. Katy Sperle said the building is a disconnected part of their home that was furnaced, dry walled and meant to keep 25 puppies and their mother warm inside a 10 by 10 kennel. Sperle breeds Corgis and Mini Australian Shepherds.

Duane Ashenbrenner retires from Shawano Fire Department

It was 1962, and Duane Ashenbrenner had just turned 21. That was the minimum age to join the Shawano Fire Department, and he didn’t waste time signing on. More than 60 years later, in late 2023, Ashenbrenner retired as deputy fire chief from the department. “He is the kind of guy who, when they say they’ll take care of something, they take care of it,” said Fire Chief Shawn Borlace, who is going on eight years as chief.

RSV in Wisconsin; cases, deaths on the rise

Having a child in the hospital is a difficult and emotional time for parents. Cooper Henry is almost 18 months old. He has been in the hospital three times with RSV since he was born. "Watching your child go through that is so scary," said his mother, Sara Schladweiler. "He was on full high-flow oxygen for three days.

Lodi Fire Department wraps a historic year with new leadership

It has been a lot of a year for Lodi Area Fire Chief Nate Sievers, with big changes still on the horizon. At the start of 2023, after four years as assistant chief, Sievers was appointed fire chief, officially taking over from retiring Chief Bobby Annen on Feb. 1. At the end of the year, the department had responded to 132 calls, almost double the previous year’s total of 74.

Eagle River Fire Department not losing hope on building the city's iconic ice castle

VIDEO: Every winter when conditions are right, volunteers in Eagle River cut nearly 300 blocks of ice from a local lake and stack them into an ice castle. The last ice castle built was 2 years ago and time is running out for this year. The month of December was unusually warm, which is affecting communities like Eagle River.

Dump truck catches on fire on Highway 41 in Town of Oconto

Oconto Fire & Rescue responded to an early-morning vehicle fire on Highway 41 near the Town of Oconto. At approximately 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, Oconto Fire & Rescue responded to a call of a dump truck on fire in the southbound lane of Highway 41 near S Range Line Road in the Town of Oconto. The caller said the fire continued flaring up despite using a fire extinguisher on it.

Apartment fire in Racine displaces 3 residents and causes $60K in damage

The Racine Fire Department responded to a fire on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at around 1:35 p.m., which involved a two-story apartment building containing four units. The fire, primarily contained in the attic, resulted in the displacement of three residents. First responders from Engine 2 observed smoke coming from the building's roof.

Residents, dog escape duplex fire in Beloit

PHOTO: Firefighters say the occupants and a family dog got out safely when a duplex caught fire in Beloit. The fire started around 2 p.m. Tuesday in a duplex in the 100 block of Bluff Street, according to a Facebook post by the Beloit Fire Department. Due to the amount of fire, the age of the home and the weather conditions, the fire department called in other agencies for help.

Oconomowoc house fire; 911 calls triggered Western Lakes response

Emergency crews were dispatched to the residence around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. This, after 911 calls came in from passers-by reporting flames coming from the roof of a structure.

Kiel fire injures six people including one first responder

Authorities say a Monday night apartment fire in Kiel left six people hurt including one of the first responders on scene. According to a release from the Kiel Fire Department, firefighters responded at 7:57 p.m. to an apartment complex on 55 East Chicago Street for reports of fire alarms going off.

Green Bay apartment fire caused by cooking accident

PHOTOS: One person is recovering and several other people were pushed from their apartment units after one of the units caught fire early Monday morning. Firefighters say they found one person who needed medical attention when they responded, and that person was immediately taken to the hospital. Crews were able to focus most of their attack on the apartment unit where the fire started to keep it from spreading.

Machine shed destroyed in fire near Sparta

PHOTO: The contents of a machine shed were destroyed in a fire Saturday afternoon near Sparta. Firefighters with the Sparta Area Fire District were called to the shed at 11162 County Road B north of Sparta around 4:30 p.m. according to Fire Chief Mike Arnold. A passerby had spotted the fire and called 9-1-1.

Milwaukee apartment fire, 2 people hurt

Milwaukee firefighters were dispatched early Thursday, Dec. 21 to an apartment fire near 104th and Fond du Lac on the city's northwest side. Battalion Chief Joel Rechlitz indicated firefighters were dispatched to the apartment building around 4 a.m. Thursday. Initial reports indicated there were two children trapped inside the structure.

Crews respond to structure fire in Buffalo County

No injuries are reported following a structure fire in Buffalo County Wednesday. According to a press release from the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 20, 2023, around 11:33 a.m., authorities received reports of a farm shed that was smoking heavily and was on fire at S77 Highway 37, in the Town of Naples.

VIDEO: Kenosha I-94 truck fire, WisDOT cameras capture response

A box truck caught fire on I-94 in Kenosha Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 19. It happened around 2:10 p.m. According to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department, the driver first noticed smoke in the cab and pulled over near the Highway 158 overpass. A sheriff’s deputy arrived to check on the driver. The sheriff's department said, when the deputy turned back to look at the truck, it was fully engulfed in flames.

Fire a Fond du Lac residence causes heavy damage in kitchen area

A two-story residential home sustained damage after a fire on Tuesday evening in the City of Fond du Lac. According to Fond du Lac Fire & Rescue, shortly after 7:00 p.m., crews were sent to the 300 block of North Street for a report of a fire at a residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames showing from a first-floor window and smoke emitting from the rear of the building.
