Fond du Lac Fire Rescue hosts event to help fund public outreach programs

Firefighters battle "major fire" at old Fond du Lac casket company building

VIDEO: Fond du Lac firefighters battled they called a "major fire" at an historic building in the city early Tuesday. The scene is at the former Northern Casket Company building at 16 N. Brooke St. The building is listed as an historic property on the Wisconsin Historical Society website. The Fond du Lac Fire Department says Brooke St is closed between Division and Western.

Racine Police Chief blames fire and looting mostly on outsiders

VIDEO: Racine Police Chief Art Howell said that he believes the bulk of violent activity late Sunday and early Monday in the city was perpetrated by outsiders looking to escalate or take advantage of protests. At a press conference on Monday afternoon, Howell pointed to evidence that indicated to him that some of the violence after a protest of the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis, was not done by members of the Racine community.

Final salute for Bloomer fire chief who died from cancer

A final salute was held Monday night in Bloomer for the community's long-time fire chief, Brian Bleskacek. Fellow firefighters, along with other friends and family came out as a show of support. In November, Bleskacek was diagnosed with stage four inoperable bladder cancer. He passed away last week.

At least 15 arrested in second night of vandalism, fires in downtown Madison

At least 15 people have been arrested after a second night of protests devolved into more violence in Madison, according to police. In a blog post, Interim Chief Vic Wahl says officers were present starting at around 6 p.m. Sunday, when a group started protesting peacefully on the Capitol Square. The group grew to several hundred people over the next few hours, extending beyond the 9:30 p.

Curfew announced for city of Milwaukee; National Guard authorized

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced Saturday the Wisconsin National Guard has been authorized to support the city of Milwaukee in its response to those who have disrupted the peaceful protests within the city. The protests began following the death of George Floyd after a Minneapolis police officer was seen on video kneeling on Floyd's neck while he was handcuffed on Monday.

Eau Claire and Altoona Fire departments train with live fire

The Eau Claire and Altoona Fire Departments conducted a live fire training today. They don't often get to have this type of training, but were donated a house from the site that is to become Martin Dental in Altoona. The house is located off of Highway 12 in Altoona. The Altoona fire chief says that this type of training is very valuable and that they are grateful to have a house to be able to use for this purpose.

Janesville house fire displaces 6

A house fire in Janesville has displaced six people Friday night. According to a news release, firefighters were sent to 1518 S. Willard Ave for a report of a residential fire with smoke and flames at around 11:52 p.m. Once firefighters arrived to the scene, they were able to limit majority of the fire damage to one bedroom after fighting flames outside the house.

Fire destroys truck, damages Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire Department building

The building that houses the Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire Department was damaged in a fire Thursday afternoon. The fire also destroyed a fire truck, along with the damage caused to the department's building near the intersection of Outagamie County JJ and State 55, according to a Post-Crescent photographer at the scene.

Janesville police investigate Franklin Street fire as suspicious

Police consider a Thursday morning fire that caused $150,000 in damage to a duplex at 220 S. Franklin St. to be suspicious. Lt. Charles Aagaard, head of Janesville police detectives, said the fire is considered suspicious based on witness statements. He declined to reveal what witnesses have told investigators.

5 dogs, bird killed during Beaver Dam house fire

Several dogs and a parrot died during a house fire in Beaver Dam on Thursday, according to a release by the city’s fire department. Firefighters were sent to the 100 block of Gould Street around 9:45 a.m. The homeowner returned home to discover the fire. Crews arrived on scene to find light smoke coming from the second-floor of the home.

Menomonee Falls appoints its interim fire chief, Gerald Washington, as its next leader

The Menomonee Falls Police and Fire Commission has named its interim chief, Gerald Washington, as its next leader. His start date has not yet been determined, but he is expected to begin as soon as routine administrative items and paperwork are completed, said Village President Dave Glasgow. Washington has served as interim fire chief in Menomonee Falls since March 25, replacing James Mollett, who was with the department for six years.

Reedsville firefighter loses face-off with ALS

A Reedsville firefighter has lost his battle with ALS, according to the Reedsville Fire Department. Jacob Glasow passed away Wednesday morning, the department announced. Bank donations bolster Ridgeland-Wilson Fire Department

Security Bank, which serves the communities of Ridgeland, Dallas, Sand Creek, New Auburn and Bloomer recently announced the development of the “Hometown COVID-19 Relief Grant.” Through the assistance of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, Security Bank set aside $20,000 to award to emergency medical technicians and fire departments in five towns where the institution’s offices are located.

Retired Bloomer fire chief passes away

Former Bloomer Fire Chief Brian Bleskacek has passed away according to the Bloomer Ambulance and First Responders Facebook page. Bleskacek was diagnosed with stage four inoperable urothelial cancer in November 2019. He joined the fire department and served as fire chief for 21 years.

Why the green paint on Milwaukee's red fire hydrants?

In my City of Milwaukee neighborhood, I've noticed that Department of Public Works crews have been out painting fire hydrants. Some of them have been getting green tops. So, I went to Facebook, posted a photo and tagged some friends who are or have been firefighters, and I got some responses (along with the usual slate of joke comments).

Town of Peshtigo firefighters use Jaws of Life to rescue crash victim

Emergency crews used the Jaws of Life to rescue a patient in a crash that closed part of Hwy 41 in the Town of Peshtigo on Memorial Day. On May 25, at about 12:26 p.m., the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department, EMS and law enforcement were called to a two-vehicle crash on southbound Hwy 41 near Flame Rd.

No injuries reported following Brillion house fire, neighboring home damaged due to heat

Fire officials say no one was injured during a house fire in Brillion early Monday evening. According to Brillion Fire Chief Joe Diener, crews were called to a hone on the 200 block of Homewood Drive in Brillion at 5:37 p.m. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames in the rear of the building, as well as the garage area.

Firefighters quickly put out fire at Madison home with two dogs stuck inside

Two dogs were heard barking from a burning Madison home late Tuesday morning as firefighters arrived to quell the blaze. According to the Madison Fire Dept., multiple people called 911 around 10:40 a.m. to report the east Madison home was on fire. Firefighters could see smoke and flames near the front door as they got to the scene, in the 5400 block of Spicebush Lane.

Two people injured in Janesville house explosion

Two people were injured following a house explosion in Janesville Monday night, according to the Janesville Fire Department. Firefighters were sent to a fully-engulfed house fire on the 800 block of Hawthorne Avenue at 9:15 p.m. Janesville Fire Battalion Chief Ron Bomkamp said one of the duplex's tenants reported they smelled gas by the water heater for several days.
