115th Fighter Wing to pay tribute to health care workers, first responders

The 115th Fighter Wing is going to pay tribute to all of America’s heroes, including health care workers and first responders with a flyover with four F-16 Fighting Falcons, over the skies of Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 12. The flyover is part of Operation American Resolve, a nationwide campaign, designed to show appreciation for the thousands of heroes on the frontlines, as well as, citizens and neighbors who've been battling and supporting the COVID-19 response.

Very High Fire Danger Remains In Northern Wisconsin

Despite scattered rain showers this weekend, elevated fire conditions continue today through Wednesday, especially in northern Wisconsin, where the fire danger is high to very high due to low relative humidity and slower progression of green-up. Fires under these circumstances can start easily and spread quickly.

Chicken heat lamp starts Beloit garage fire Sunday night

Firefighters extinguished a garage fire Sunday night caused by a chicken heat lamp, according to a Town of Beloit Fire Department news release. The fire was reported at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at 1832 Walters Road. Firefighters found flames inside an attached garage when they arrived and was assured by the homeowner no one was in the house, according to the news release.

Bystanders and police attempt to extinguish porch fire in Sheboygan home

The Sheboygan Fire Department report that around 4 p.m. on Saturday, crews were dispatched to the 2200 block of North 8th Street for reports of a fire in a Sheboygan home. Firefighters say they arrived on the scene within four minutes of the initial report and found flames coming from the front porch of the residence.

Firefighters respond to Springdale house fully engulfed in flames, home considered total loss

Firefighters from multiple Dane County municipalities responded early Saturday morning to a house on County Highway J that was engulfed in flames. Around 4 a.m. Saturday, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from Black Earth, Cross Plains, Belleville, Verona, Mount Horeb, Fitchburg, Madison and Middleton responded to the fire at 2712 County Highway J.

State firefighters union says number of COVID-19 cases are rising

While many of us are "Safer at Home," the work of firefighters and first responders doesn't stop. So along with the dangers they normally see on the job, the coronavirus pandemic has been added to the list. Michael Wos of the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin says every call could mean coming in contact with COVID-19.

Fond du Lac native inspired by her dad donates to FDNY

The coronavirus pandemic has brought out a need, for many, to help others. And, after growing up in the home of a firefighter, a Fond du Lac native was inspired to support first responders in her new city. Empty streets are an unusual sight in New York City. For Fond du Lac native, Emily Shippee, and her boyfriend Charles Rockefeller, who has family ties to Appleton, living in New York City during this pandemic is surreal.

Man's body found at scene of Adams County wildfire

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department has identified a body found at the scene of a wildfire as Robert Hoffman, 73, of Coloma. Investigators said they responded to the report of a wildfire in the 1700 block of 3rd Avenue in Town of Richfield on Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. According to a news release, during suppression efforts Hoffman's body was found within the consumed/burnt area of the fire.

Massive fire severely damages motel in Baraboo

A motel in Baraboo was severely damaged after a massive fire Thursday night. According to the Baraboo Fire Department, crews responded to a call for a fire at the Log Lodge Motel on West Pine Street just before 5 p.m. Video sent to NBC15 by a viewer shows massive flames consuming the building. The fire chief reported that the first started on one end of the two-story motel.

Fire destroys barn in Town of Wilson, cause under investigation

Firefighters on Friday morning, May 8 responded to the scene of barn fire on County Road EE in the Town of Wilson. The call came in around 2:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The structure was a total loss. The following resources were involved in this incident: Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Wilson Fire Department, Sheboygan Falls Fire Department, Oostburg Fire Department,Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department, Kohler Fire Department, Town of Sheboygan Fire Deparment, and The Sheboygan County Fire Investigation Team.

Two people safe but displaced after Fitchburg apartment building catches fire

Crews have been dispatched to yet another structure fire in our area, this time at a home in Fitchburg. The two occupants are safe but displaced after their apartment building caught fire in the 3100 block of Seminole Highway around 8:13 p.m., City of Fitchburg Fire Chief Joe Pulvermacher tells NBC15 News at the scene.

Two people displaced after home goes up in flames in Town of Sun Prairie

Two people are displaced for at least a night after their home caught fire in the Town of Sun Prairie Thursday evening. Firefighters tell NBC15 News that the fire started at the home in the 5700 block of Twin Lane around 5:45 p.m. The two people who live there will be displaced Thursday night as crews continue to look for hot spots.

Firefighters respond to large fire at apartment complex in East Troy

Firefighters on Thursday morning, May 7 responded to the scene of a fire at the Honey Creek Apartments in East Troy. The came in around 8 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames and smoke pouring from the roof of the building. Officials say the fire broke out the second floor. More than 20 departments responded to the scene.

Fire destroys De Pere home

De Pere Fire Rescue says a fire destroyed a house Wednesday night. Fire crews were called to the home on Jordan Road at the intersection with Saddlebrook Lane just before 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. Neighbor Jason Dahlke tells us he saw an orange glow while watching TV. He says he called 911 and helped make sure his neighbor was safely out of the house.

Kenosha Fire Department changing hiring practice to increase applicant pool

Hoping to increase the pool of qualified candidates, the Kenosha Fire Department is shifting its hiring practice for new firefighters. The department this week posted its new requirements for applicants, the shift eliminating the requirement that candidates have firefighting training to apply. Kenosha Fire Chief Charles Leipzig said the change will open the door to more applicants.

Follow Up: Appleton names northside park in honor of fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard

A northside neighborhood park will be named Lundgaard Park in honor of fallen firefighter Mitch Lundgaard to ensure his sacrifice in the line of duty isn't forgotten. The Common Council voted unanimously Wednesday to name the 7-acre park in memory of Lungaard, who was fatally shot by a gunman during a May 15, 2019, medical call at the Valley Transit Center.

Reedsburg restaurant hosting spaghetti supper fundraiser for fire department

Every year, the Reedsburg Fire Department hosts a spaghetti supper, which raises money for the department to purchase equipment. With this year’s event postponed due to COVID-19 concerns and restrictions on gatherings, J’s Pub and Grill decided to host a smaller fundraiser to support the department. Owner Jayson Pettit said he was disappointed when he heard the Reedsburg Fire Department postponed its annual spaghetti supper due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unattended cooking causes Green Bay garage fire, $80,000 in damages

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to 2426 Robinson Ave. Tuesday at 3:28 PM for reports of a house on fire. Upon arrival, crews located the fire in the attached garage which was spreading into the attic. Firefighters made entry into the garage to knock down the fire while other firefighters pulled soffits and ceilings to extinguish the fire in the attic.

Madison fire officials ask for public's help to solve arson cases during Arson Awareness Week

This week is Arson Awareness Week, and state leaders and fire officials are sharing strategies to combat arson problems in local communities. According to the National Fire Protection Association's fire loss data, an estimated 25,500 structure fires were intentionally set in 2018, an increase of 13 percent over the year before.

15 years ago, Adams Co. wildfire burned 3,400 acres and 30 homes; Central Wisconsin is dry and at risk again

As spring brings the wildfire season to central Wisconsin, longtime residents of Adams County worry it also could bring a repeat of the Cottonville fire that scorched thousands of acres and dozens of homes 15 years ago. The fire broke out May 5, 2005, as a 55-year-old Racine man was trying to clear brush on property near Big Flats.
