Explosion believed to have started home fire in Wood County

Crews were battling a working house fire in Wood County Monday evening. According to a Town of Rome Fire Department, the fire started after an explosion at a home on Winding Trail in Saratoga at about 6:45 Monday evening. Numerous agencies responded to the fire. The Wood County deputy says the homeowner was not there when the fire started.

Milwaukee State of the City: Public safety 'greatest challenge'

Acting Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson focused on crime in his pre-produced State of the City Address on Monday, Feb. 7, just eight days before the mayoral primary. Galesville business 'a near total loss' after fire

An early Sunday morning fire destroys a Galesville business. The Galesville Area Fire Department was called at 4:12 a.m. to Jeff's Service off of Highway 53. Chief Lucas Teska immeadiately asked for mutual aid from the Ettrick and Trempealeau Fire Departments. Upon arriving at the scene, he requested additional assistance from other departments.

Cadott Fire & Rescue and the Chippewa Fire District rescued dog after falling through ice

Cadott Fire & Rescue and the Chippewa Fire District performed an ice rescue Saturday morning after a Cadott family's dog broke through ice and was stranded in water. Officials said the dog was rescued on its owner's farm located south of Cadott. They got the call at 9:16 a.m. and the dog was out of the water by 9:45 a.

Attic fire displaces rural Portage family

An attic fire Thursday night displaced a rural Portage family, the city’s fire department said Friday. In a news release, Portage Fire Chief Troy Haase said the fire broke out just after 9 p.m. on Highway 78 southwest of the city. A resident reported smelling smoke and seeing sparks coming from a ceiling fan and noted part of the house was without power.

Dartford Inn damaged in fire

Firefighters worked into the early morning hours responding to an evening fire at The Dartford Inn, the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office said Friday. Emergency responders first received calls about a fire at the Dartford Inn at around 11:42 p.m. Thursday. When responders first arrived, the sheriff's office said a large portion of the building was on fire.

La Crosse and Onalaska Fire Departments ask public to stay vigilant at home

Recent structure fires in La Crosse and Onalaska have firefighters on alert but unfortunately this time of year it's a normal occurrence. Basement Fire Leaves Fond du Lac Home Uninhabitable

The residents of a Fond du Lac home have been displaced following a basement fire Thursday afternoon. Crews were called to 303 E. 10th St. shortly before 4 p.m. Upon arrival, they found fire in the basement. It was quickly extinguished but left significant damage in the basement and heavy smoke damage throughout the home.

Cooking fire causes extensive damage to Oshkosh duplex, no smoke alarms

Seven people were displaced and some pets died in a fire at an Oshkosh duplex Wednesday. Feb. 2, at 5:24 p.m., firefighters were called to the 1000 block of Greenwood Court. Crews encountered heavy fire in a kitchen and dining room area. The fire caused extensive damage, according to the Oshkosh Fire Department.

Two people injured in La Crosse apartment fire

Two people are recovering from injuries Thursday morning after an apartment fire. The La Crosse Fire Department arrived just after 12:30 a.m. to heavy smoke coming from the rear of the apartment building on 2219 South Ave. All residents were able to make it out safely thanks to the smoke alarm system.

Eau Claire home heavily damaged in fire; no one hurt

A house is heavily heavily damaged after a fire early Thursday morning in downtown Eau Claire. Crews were called to the fire at 618 East Grand Avenue at 12:36 a.m. Thursday, according to a release from the Eau Claire Fire Department. The two-story home is located across from University Park and down the street from the Eau Claire Area School District Office.

GoFundMe raises over $14k for Shell Lake firefighter battling cancer

A firefighter in western Wisconsin was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, and the community has helped raise over $14,000, and counting, to help cover medical expenses. The Shell Lake Fire Department says that Captain Tucker McCumber was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. He has been a member of the department for over ten years.

Portion of Wisconsin River Meats plant in Mauston 'a total loss' after blaze

Wisconsin River Meats offered employees and customers an update Thursday morning after an overnight fire tore through a section of its meat processing plant in Mauston. According to Wisconsin River Meats’ Facebook post, “the old portion of the plant is a total loss.” It went on to thank all the fire departments who responded to help contain the blaze.

Fremont- Wolf River firefighter dies of COVID-19

A member of the Fremont- Wolf River Fire Department has died after a battle with COVID-19. 66 year old Robert Stevens, known as “Bob” passed away last Thursday January 27th. A visitation was held on Tuesday night. On the Facebook page of the Fremont- Wolf River Fire Department, a black line is now covering a badge to remember Bob Stevens, a 35 year veteran of the department.

Baraboo Fire Dept. and Baraboo District Ambulance plan to consolidate

The Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services in Baraboo plan to consolidate so they can hire more long-term employees and respond quicker to emergencies. “As we continue to face staff shortages and struggles we’re looking for ways to see how we can improve that situation ultimately,” Baraboo District EMS Director Caleb Johnson said.

'Saddened and disheartened': In 2021, COVID a factor for all Wisconsin firefighter line-of-duty deaths

Across Wisconsin, firefighters have been particularly susceptible to dying of COVID-19–even moreso than their law enforcement first responder counterparts. In 2021, all six of Wisconsin’s line of duty deaths for firefighters and emergency medical service personnel were a result of COVID-19 complications, according to new data released to News 3 Now.

Milwaukee Fire Chief outlines reforms after firefighters missed body in burned vehicle

Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski says the department will undergo both protocol changes and additional training as they seek to find out how firefighters did not see the body of a woman in a car that had been on fire last month. The burned remains of the woman were later discovered by a worker at a city tow lot.

La Crosse family escapes through window in duplex fire

VIDEO: A family of six was forced to flee their duplex through a bedroom window due to a fire. The La Crosse Fire Department responded to the call just after 2:30 a.m. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire coming out of a window on one side of the duplex. The family was able to escape and were treated by arriving fire crews.
