Lodi Fire Department retires engine

As of the end of September, the Lodi Area Fire Department announced the decommissioning of Engine 10. Since 1998, Engine 10 has been the department's front line fire engine, but has been retired after 24 years of service. Maintenance of the vehicle, according to a statement released by Fire Chief Bobby Annen, had gradually begun to outweigh the value of retaining the truck.

Onalaska Firehouse 5K supports local firefighters association, CMN Hospitals

There's still time to get in on a weekend win-win by lacing up the running shoes. The Onalaska Firehouse 5K on Saturday, Oct. 8 benefits both the Onalaska Firefighters Association and local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals families. Offering a way to get in a workout bright and early, and support for a pair of local organizations, the event also features a family-friendly open house.

Brookfield house fire extinguished; Red Cross assisting residents

Firefighters on Wednesday evening, Oct. 5 responded to the scene of a house fire on Iris Court near Lakeview Drive in Brookfield. The call came in around 7:30 p.m. All occupants and their dogs had exited the residence before arrival of fire department units. First arriving units found a two story, multi-family residence, with nothing showing and evacuation in progress.

Multiple crews respond to ‘heavy fire’ at Kewaunee County Barn, animals inside

Just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, the Algoma Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a barn with animals inside in the Town of Lincoln. According to the Algoma Fire Department, crews were sent to N9388 County P on October 4, and heavy smoke could be seen coming from the barn windows while crews were on the way.

Town of Holland asks voters to fund fire department through referendum

Nationwide, communities are feeling the impacts of the firefighter and EMS shortage. Town of Holland is turning to its residents for help. In November, Town of Holland residents have the choice to vote for a recurring $582,000 referendum. That’s a $135 increase per $100,000 in property value for the first year.

‘Decon’ buckets prevent cancer in Chippewa Falls firefighters

Chippewa Valley Technical College presented the Chippewa Falls Fire Station with a decontamination bucket to help prevent cancer in their first responders. Firefighters have an increased risk of cancer because of the various carcinogens they are exposed to on the job. Money was raised by CVTC to provide these buckets to local fire departments.

Residents safe after apartment fire in La Crosse

All occupants of an apartment safely got out of an apartment that was on fire late Monday night. The La Crosse Fire Department says they responded to a basement fire at 119 9th Street South shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday. Crews arrived to discover smoke coming from the basement of the three-unit apartment building.

Crews put out fire at Appleton hydro plant

Crews put out a fire at an Appleton hydro plant Monday night. At about 11:15 p.m., the Appleton Fire Department was called to a fire off Olde Oneida and Edison Streets. There was a report of smoke and fire. Crews found fire in the plant located off Edison Street. It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Fire causes extensive damage to Fond du Lac home

Fire caused extensive damage to a home in Fond du Lac Monday. At about 12:55 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire Rescue was called to a fire in the 200 block of N. Brooke Street. Crews “encountered heavy fire conditions showing from the front of the single family residence,” officials say. Firefighters say the fire caused extensive damage to the first floor of the home.

Man, 45, dead at scene of historic tavern fire in Manitowoc County

A 45-year-old man was found dead at the scene of a fire at an historic tavern in Manitowoc County. The victim’s name was not released. He was found in an apartment on the second story of Hika Bay Tavern in Cleveland, according to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office. On Sunday, just before 8 p.m., crews were called to the tavern located at 252 Lincoln Avenue.

Buffalo County non-profit, Hope 4 Heroes, aims to support the mental health of first responders and veterans

What started out as a thought is becoming a reality. “I just think that there’s a need to do something. What that something is I may not have all the answers right now, but my goal is to find them,” Kyle Downing said. Downing is a firefighter in Eleva. He wanted to spread awareness of and prevent suicide among those who protect and serve.

Wisconsin Rapids holds 'Final Alarm' ceremony for first responders who died in the last year

Nine firefighters in the state of Wisconsin died in this past year in the line of duty. Ben Hansen Park in Wisconsin Rapids hosted an emotional ceremony honoring those who put their lives on the line and made the ultimate sacrifice. "It makes you feel that we're all vulnerable. We're always taking the risk," said Jim Lutoi, President of the Wisconsin Fire and EMS Memorial.

Shelby, La Crosse fire crews quickly put out fire in mobile home

Shelby and La Crosse Fire crews quickly put out a fire inside a mobile home Friday afternoon. According to the Shelby Fire Department, firefighters saw smoke coming from a window when they got to the scene at La Crosse Mobile Home Park. They went inside the home and put out the fire within 12 minutes of being on the scene.

Covered internet router sparks fire at Pardeeville home

A Pardeeville home was seriously damaged in a fire Thursday afternoon. The Pardeeville Fire Department said in a Facebook post it responded to a home around 4:40 p.m. for a fire with "smoke and flames coming from a window." When firefighters arrived, the department says they initially attacked the fire from outside, before moving inside.

Marshfield Fire Department Hosts Technical Program

Since 1884, the Marshfield Fire Department has kept their community safe, but now they're looking to pass on what they know to the next generation. Unfortunately, like many other departments in Central Wisconsin and around the country, there is a growing shortage of firefighters. Follow Up: The Braising Pan in West Bend a 'total loss' after catching fire

The Braising Pan restaurant, 1100 N Main St, has burned down after a fire broke out inside it on Thursday morning. According to a press release from the West Bend Fire Department, they received a call at 1:14 a.m. about black smoke coming from the restaurant from a cleaner, who was on scene and able to exit the building.

Madison fraternity house catches fire from unattended fire pit

A fraternity house in downtown Madison caught fire overnight after an outdoor firepit was left unattended, according to the City of Madison Fire Department (MFD). MFD spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said firefighters responded to reports of smoke and flames coming from the back of a house on Langdon Street shortly before 1 a.

7 firefighters who died from COVID-19 will be added to Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial

irefighters from across the state will gather Saturday to honor seven of their own who gave their lives in the line of duty during the past year. Each October, a ceremony is held at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial in Ben Hansen Park in Wisconsin Rapids that includes the reading of the names on the memorial, playing of bagpipes, choral presentations and the traditional Firefighter's Bell Ceremony.

10 departments, 30k gallons used on large-scale barn fire in Winnebago County

VIDEO: A large-scale barn fire in the Town of Clayton on Wednesday afternoon drew help from ten fire departments in the area. According to the Town of Clayton Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched around 12:20 p.m. on September 28 and stated that heavy smoke was visible when crews were on the way to the scene.

Fire extinguished at West Bend restaurant; no injuries reported

Firefighters on Thursday morning, Sept. 29 responded to the scene of a fire at The Braising Pan restaurant in West Bend. The call came in around 1:15 a.m. The two-alarm fire was out by 4 a.m. The structure sustained major damage. No injuries were reported. No additional details have been released – including the cause of the fire or the amount of damage sustained.
