Two hospitalized after porch collapses during block party near UW-Madison campus

Two people were hospitalized on Saturday after a porch collapsed near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus during an end-of-the-year celebration. According to the Madison Police Department, officers and fire crews were called to a home on the 500 block of Mifflin Street at around 11:45 a.m. A porch had collapsed and injured “at least” three people, the incident report stated.

Kenosha County barn fire; sergeant, deputy injured, cause unknown

Firefighters on Sunday, May 1 responded to the scene of barn fire on 317th Avenue in the Town of Wheatland in Kenosha County. The call came in around 8 p.m. According to deputies on the scene, horses in the barn were rescued by the homeowners and appear to have no injuries. One of the homeowners was transported to an area hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

Kenosha Mayor to request referendum to exceed tax levy for more police, firefighters

Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian will ask the City Council to approve a referendum to exceed the state-mandated property tax levy so the city can hire more police officers and firefighters. The City Council will consider the matter during Monday night’s meeting at the Municipal Building, 625 52nd St. The city hopes to hire 10 additional police officer positions with associated equipment to “enhance the police department’s ability to fulfill all of the department’s response and preventative responsibilities.

One dead after apartment fire on Milwaukee's South Side

One person is dead after a fire late last night near 18th and National on Milwaukee’s south side. The Milwaukee Fire Department says it was called to the apartment complex at 1817 West National Avenue around 10:30 last night. Once firefighters extinguished the flames they found a deceased victim in one of the units.

Sprinklers credited with containing fire at Essity Paper Plant in Menasha

Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue answered to fire and water flow alarms coming from the Essity paper plant at 190 Third Street Thursday afternoon. The first crews were on the scene about 3 minutes after the call at 3 o’clock and found significant smoke in an area near the dock doors. As more firefighters were called for a structure fire, the initial crews found the fire originated in the processing area of the plant and it was already contained.

Wausau Fire Department working to help employees with mental health

The Wausau Fire Department is working to make sure mental health, wellness, and staffing shortages are a top priority for the department. This comes after Chief Bob Barteck, reviewed the fire department and asked staff about the things they would like to see changed. “Fire and EMS service is an extremely stressful job,” said Chief Barteck.

Simulation exercise preps for danger: Four-day emergency class concludes in Waupun

Had the emergency scenario area that officials spent four days training for been real, Waupun residents would have been evacuated to Beaver Dam. As it was just an exercise, life went on as normal. People shopped for groceries. Exercise classes were held. Church women got together to make blankets for charity.

Firefighters respond to blaze in downtown La Crosse

Images from the scene show a building on the 300 block of S. 4th Street housing the restaurant India Curry House is largely destroyed, with its top floors collapsed. Debris and fire apparatus currently occupy the street.

Wisconsin DNR talks about fire regulations

Spring in Wisconsin is wildfire season, and most people don’t realize is that 98% of wildfires in Wisconsin are due to human activity. "This is not uncommon, typically after the snow melts and prior to vegetation greening up, that’s the peak of fire season," said Catherine Koele. Catherine Koele is a DNR Wildfire Prevention Specialist for Woodruff, she said when you are out burning, it’s all about safety.

Firefighters battle barn blaze in Hubbard

A fire caused excessive damage to a barn in the town of Hubbard Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews from Iron Ridge, Hustisford and Neosho were called to a fully-engulfed structure fire shortly before 2 p.m. at W3626 Decora Road, according to Iron Ridge Fire Chief Jason Keller. Upon arrival, firefighters found three-quarters of the barn in flames, as well as a cornfield burning across the road.

Waupaca County house fire leaves one person dead

One person died in a residential home fire Wednesday morning. The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center heard a home located at N11557 County Highway P was fully engulfed in flames around 2:18 a.m. Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Iola Fire Department reported to the home, according to Detective Sergeant Paul Hanneman.

Fond du Lac Fire Department Called To Another Residential Fire

For the third time in three days, the Fond du Lac Fire Department was on the scene of a residential fire. FDL Fire Rescue was called out Tuesday April 26, 2022 at 3:34 p.m. for a report of a garage fire at 598 S. Military Rd. Once on the scene, fire crews found thick smoke from the front of the garage and heavy fire showing from the rear service door.

Fire at Madison apartment complex displaces resident

A Madison man was forced out of his apartment Monday after a fire. Madison Fire Department crews were sent to a complex on Deer Valley Road just after 9:30 p.m. after residents reported seeing smoke. Officials said one of the residents returned home as firefighters were searching the building. When the man opened his door, he saw dark, heavy smoke.

Good Samaritan Rescues Manitowoc County Woman from Burning SUV After Crash Into Barn

Manitowoc County sheriff’s officials say they were called to the area of Highway 42, north of Irish Road just after 12:15 a.m. Authorities determined a 21-year-old woman from Kewaunee County was driving an SUV north on 42 when her vehicle went off the road and into the ditch.

Sun Prairie home’s balloon frame made battling fire more dangerous

Didion Milling donates $100K to first responders, FFA for 50th anniversary

Didion is celebrating 50 years of operation by donating to local nonprofits. The milling company gave $100,000 to local first responders and other agencies on Monday. A total $77,500 went to the fire departments of Cambria, Pardeeville, Randolph, Friesland, Columbus and Fall River, as well as the Columbia and Jefferson County Sheriff’s departments.

Dry heat and high winds a factor in multiple weekend fires in northeast Wisconsin

Fire crews in northeast Wisconsin responded to several fires in just the last few days. There were at least six total between Chilton, Green Bay, Fond Du Lac, Appleton, and Kaukauna. Fire officials are now warning the community of the dangers of dry heat and wind, as they were the biggest common factor in the fires the area saw this weekend.

Firefighters rescued a male resident hanging from a second-story window of a house that caught fire Sunday night, according to the Chilton Fire Department. Superior Fire Department rolls out new decontamination trailer

The city rolled out a new tool for dealing with hazardous materials incidents last week — a decontamination trailer. The 56-foot trailer was parked behind the Superior Fire Department headquarters for tours. It’s something the FBI or large metropolitan teams in Chicago, the Twin Cities or Los Angeles would have, said Superior Fire Chief Scott Gordon.
