Madison Fire Department: 1 person displaced after malfunctioning pool equipment causes fire

One person was displaced Saturday night after malfunctioning pool equipment caused a fire. Officials responded to the 7100 block of Colony Drive at about 5:10 p.m. A news release said the fire began on the outside of the house but quickly spread up the siding and into the attic space. The fire caused significant damage to the attic and upper level of the home, the release said.

Two dogs dead after possible explosion at Poynette home

Officials in Poynette are investigating what caused a house fire Sunday night, saying an explosion may have sparked the flames. No one was hurt, but two dogs died in the fire. The home is on 500 block of East Tomlinson St. in Poynette. An image shared with NBC15 News showed flames filling the home’s porch.

De Pere structure fire causes $300,000 in damages, no injuries reported

The De Pere Fire Rescue Department responded to a structure fire on 1105 Fay Court around 5:56 Sunday morning. All residents had already evacuated. A detached garage was heavily engulfed in flames. The fire was moving to the exterior of a single family home. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from extending into the residence.

No one injured after vehicle fire at Dane County gas station

PHOTOS: No one was injured Thursday morning after a fire tore through a vehicle at a Dane County gas station. Cottage Grove Fire crews were called around 9 a.m. to the BP Gas Station on the 2700 block of Highway N in the Town of Pleasant Springs for a car that was fully engulfed in flames. A fuel tank ruptured shortly after first responders arrived, which they noted made containing the fire a challenge.

Commentary: Madison's great butter and cheese fire of 1991

PHOTOS: I admit that I didn't remember, but my friend Lois Seymour did, that it was the 30th anniversary of a monstrous fire that broke out on May 3, 1991, at Madison's Central Storage & Warehouse Co.. It was later proclaimed to have been Madison's biggest fire ever by fire department officials. The fire at the huge food storage facility on Cottage Grove Road and Highway 51/151 in east Madison was later attributed to a forklift battery malfunction.

Downtown Wautoma gas leak blamed on contractor

Wautoma’s police chief says all roads downtown are back open after a gas leak late Thursday morning. Chief Paul Mott says a private contractor hit a main gas line while digging. Fire and police departments were called to the 100-block of South St. Marie Street at quarter after 11. The courthouse, library, and most downtown businesses were evacuated.

On a hot May morning, Garrett Lubbers is going about his daily routine. He’s checking his truck and gear to make sure it’s in good working order so he can respond quickly if called to a fire. “I’m not going to lie, the pager tone is pretty high pitched so it definitely gets your blood pumping,” Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources forest ranger and firefighter Garrett Lubbers said.

Fall Creek church fire likely caused by lightning strike

VIDEO: The Fall Creek Area Fire District said a lightning strike is the likely culprit behind an overnight fire at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Fall Creek. Crews were sent to the church at 2:51 a.m. Thursday and found the bell tower of the church on fire, according to a post on Facebook from the Fire District.

Barron house fire: Man, 2 children dead

Three people, including two children, died in a house fire in Barron County early Thursday, according to sheriff’s officials. Dispatchers received a 911 call about 3:30 a.m. The caller said three people were still inside the house in Barron. Firefighters were able to pull two children from the burning home and they were taken to Mayo Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Reckless driving: Milwaukee emergency responders face epidemic daily

Reckless driving in Milwaukee is an epidemic. Emergency responders are getting hurt – and the wounds are more than physical. "People are screaming and crying and yelling at you to move faster, things like that," said Milwaukee Fire Captain A.J. Hornik. A group of Milwaukee firefighters recently trained for what has become a serious problem in the city.

DNR: Despite rain, west-central Wisconsin at high fire danger Thursday

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says parts of Wisconsin have a high fire danger Thursday. West-central Wisconsin, including the cities of Eau Claire and La Crosse, are at high fire danger, the DNR’s middle category of five for wildfire risk. Cattle killed, barn destroyed by fire in Fond du Lac county town of Eden

Firefighters from multiple counties extinguished a large barn fire Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office. At 3:26 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office and the Eden Fire Department were dispatched to a barn fire at N4334 Pine Road in the town of Eden.

Marsh fire burns 20 acres in Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac firefighters are warning about the dry conditions after a marsh fire Tuesday night. At about 11:13 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire Rescue responded to Lakeshore Drive north of Howard Litscher Drive. Crews found dry marsh grass on fire spreading east. The area is remote and the Brush Response ATV was called to the scene.

Two found dead near scene of fire in Township of Presque Isle

Two people were found dead near the scene of a fire in the Township of Presque Isle Tuesday afternoon. According to the Vilas County Sheriff's Office, the call for the fire off of Baer Road came in at 12:43 p.m. When they arrived, local firefighters and responders from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Fire Services were able to put out the flames.

Four tenants, multiple guests displaced in Madison apartment fire

An east side apartment building is displaced following a fire that caused significant damage. Madison Fire crews arrived to a two-story, four-unit apartment building with smoke showing Monday night around 10:30 p.m. The crew made their way to the second floor from the exterior and entered the apartment.

Crew investigating lightning as possible cause of Wood County barn fire

The cause of a barn fire in Wood County is still undetermined, but authorities are investigating if lightning may be the cause. Around 11:30 p.m. Monday night, several departments were paged to the scene of a barn fire on 11600 block of State Highway 10 in the town of Lincoln. That location is southwest of Marshfield.

2-story home catches fire in Milwaukee

Crews fought a fire at a building at 7th and Cleveland in Milwaukee overnight Tuesday. Flames erupted in a large, two-story home there. A Milwaukee Fire Department battalion chief told us that everyone got out of the house and that no firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

New Marshfield fire chief plans to focus on recruitment, response times and department’s ‘family atmosphere’

When new Fire Chief Peter Fletty was starting out with the city's fire department, he thought he'd eventually move back to Eau Claire. Fletty, 47, grew up in Eau Claire and it's where most of his family still lives. But firefighter jobs were difficult to get 25 years ago, and the Marshfield Fire Department made him an offer.
