Man taken to hospital after rescue from drum of concrete mixing truck in town of Vienna, authorities say

Aman was taken to a local hospital after he was rescued from the drum of a concrete mixing truck in the town of Vienna on Monday night, authorities reported. The Madison Fire Department’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team was called at 9:30 p.m. Monday to assist the DeForest Fire Department and Sun Prairie EMS with the rescue of a man trapped inside the drum of a concrete mixing truck in the 5600 block of Highway V, Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said in a statement.

Central Wisconsin fire departments gather for house fire training

Two Entities Team-Up to Extinguish Fire at Superior Landfill

You may have seen a sky full of smoke near Wisconsin Point Saturday —- that’s because Superior Landfill caught fire. First responders were able to contain the blaze, but the fire department says it’s not the first time the landfill has ignited. Battalion Chief Joe Tribbey said that the department responds to fires at the landfill a few times a year.

'All of a sudden it exploded'; Baraboo Firefighter severely burned in freak accident

A Baraboo firefighter is recovering following a freak accident. Justin Boak said he was working on his truck when the shop-vac exploded in his face. He was severely burned all over his body. Boak was transferred from Baraboo to the UW Madison Hospital burn unit. "I was standing there vacuuming around it and all of a sudden it exploded," he said.

Garage and 1 car a total loss after Shorewood fire, no one injured

According to the North Shore Fire Department (NSFD), a four-car garage caught fire around 6 a.m. Monday morning. Crews were originally called for a vegetation fire, but once on scene it was determined to be a four-car detached garage. The NSFD worked to quickly put out the fire as it began spreading to the fence and exterior of a duplex next door.

Fire in Superior destroys garage, causes $30k worth of damage

A detached garage in Superior was destroyed by fire Saturday night. According to the Superior Fire department, firefighters were dispatched to East 5th street around 9:00 p.m. Authorities said when they arrived on the scene, flames were coming out of the roof and the overhead garage door of the structure, and fire was starting to spread to an adjacent garage.

Active firefighters get hands-on experience with extrication in Middleton

Current firefighters from across the Midwest got hands-on training in extrication this weekend. The two-day training was hosted by Jefferson Fire & Safety in Middleton. It included eight skilled instructors and several real-world scenarios that taught students how to properly use Holmatro Rescue Tools, which help free people from cars following accidents.

Racine house fire; man rescued from balcony, treated for injuries

A man in Racine was sent to the hospital after a house fire Saturday morning, July 30. Firefighters say it could have been much worse. The man was rescued before first responders arrived. "My upstairs neighbor was on top of the roof yelling fire, and there was a bunch of smoke coming out of the windows," said Nicole Evans.

Update: 1 person killed in ‘suspicious’ Chippewa Falls house fire; suspect in custody

One person is dead after a house fire in Chippewa Falls Wednesday. The Chippewa Falls Police Department said the death and the fire are being investigated as a criminal act. Police also identified a suspect, 58-year-old Scott Vaningan of Chippewa Falls, who was taken into custody without incident Thursday evening.

Fire in Green Bay causes $10K worth of damage

A fire in the City of Green Bay caused around $10,000 in damages on Thursday. According to a release, firefighters with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department were sent to the 300 Block of South Roosevelt Street for a report of an exterior fire along a fence. After arriving on the scene, firefighters found the fire extended into the detached garage of the residence.

Beloit fire shows the importance of shutting doors, firefighters say

Kitchen doors saved a fire from spreading through a Beloit home late Tuesday morning, the Beloit Fire Department reported. Firefighters credited the doors being closed for limiting the damage from the flames to the room where the blaze started. While smoke penetrated other rooms, the fact the kitchen doors were closed kept the fire contained to where it started, they wrote in a Facebook post.

Eight month old child dead after semi truck crashes into Vinland home, Wisconsin sheriff says

The Winnebago County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has confirmed that a child was killed in a semi vs. structure crash on Monday. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on July 25 in Vinland, Wisconsin. “The semi-tractor/trailer had been traveling on I-41 southbound when it veered off the interstate through the fence line, crossed the frontage road, and crashed into an occupied residence on Green Valley Road,” WCSO said in a news release issued on Tuesday morning.

Masons donate K9 training equipment, fire rescue device to Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office

Stevens Point masons are donating a couple of tools to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. The Evergreen Lodge, with assistance from the Wisconsin Masonic Foundation, is gifting a fire suppression unit. It will allow police to bring the temperature of a fire down if they need to get to anyone before the fire department arrives.

Popular Manitowoc bakery closed after fire

A fire is under investigation after a popular Manitowoc bakery started on fire early Wednesday morning. According to the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department, they were dispatched to Hartman’s Bakery on N. 11th Street in Manitowoc around 12:12 a.m. for reports of smoke filling up the business, but the employees didn’t know where it was coming from.

Vehicle fire closes ramp on I-94/WIS 175 near Stadium Interchange in Milwaukee

A car caught on fire, resulting in the closure of the ramp from WIS 175 southbound to I-94 westbound in Milwaukee on Monday. Wisconsin Department of Transportation cameras showed smoke and flames. The ramp has since reopened. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a one-vehicle car fire around 6 p.

Western Lakes Fire District referendum for new firefighters

The same fire department that responded to two drownings in three days on Lac La Belle is looking for taxpayers to approve hiring more firefighters. Voters in the Western Lakes Fire District will weigh the referendum in August. The Western Lakes Fire District serves seven towns and cities. Their six stations serve 215 square miles.

Downtown Madison apartment ruled uninhabitable after fire

A downtown Madison apartment was ruled uninhabitable after a fire Monday. Firefighters were sent to the 100 block of South Hancock Street at around 10:25 a.m. A resident reported hearing a smoke detector and finding smoke coming from an upper floor. All occupants who were at home at the time of the fire but evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.

Warehouse containing paper, plastic catches fire in Green Bay

Police are providing more details surrounding the warehouse fire in Green Bay on Sunday afternoon. According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department (GBMFD), at around 4 p.m. crews responded to the 600 block of Liberty Street for reports of smoke and flames being seen coming out of an industrial warehouse.
