La Crosse firefighters get hands on practice

VIDEO: The La Crosse Fire Department is taking advantage of three buildings that the City acquired for redevelopment. Using controlled burns, firefighters practiced real-life fire scenarios in three properties on South Avenue. The crews have been training in them for the last couple of months. They will continue to keep using them for training until the buildings are torn down.

Follow Up: Candle may be to blame for Oconomowoc house fire

VIDEO: A shell of a house remains after a late-night fire burned through a home near Concord Road and Wisconsin Avenue in Oconomowoc. Western Lakes Fire District reports the first calls came in just after 1 a.m. Monday. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, heavy flames were seen from the front and back of the first floor of the home.

Head-on collision on U.S. Highway 18 in western Wisconsin kills two

A crash on Sunday left two people dead after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 18 in western Wisconsin. According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, around 11:22 a.m., deputies were notified of a two-vehicle crash in the township of Bridgeport, between the bridges of Prairie du Chien and Marquette, Iowa.

Firefighters extinguish shed fire in Almond caused by wood burner

Firefighters put out a shed fire believed to have started by a nearby outdoor wood burner in Almond on Monday morning. Early Monday morning, a homeowner reported a fire in their shed outside. When firefighters arrived on scene, they quickly extinguished the fire before it spread to any other structures.

Remembering the Wagner Lanes Bowling Alley fire 45 years later

5 years ago, Eau Claire saw one of the worst fires in its history. Early in the morning on November 27, 1977, a fire destroyed Wagner's Lanes Bowling Alley in what firefighters at the time called the worst fire in Eau Claire history. The fire caused around $6 million in damages. There were no casualties but the building was a total loss.

Man, dog die in Grand Chute duplex fire

A man and his dog died Sunday in a fire at a Grand Chute duplex. The name of the victim has not been released as of Monday morning. The fire also displaced three other adults. Sunday, November 27, 2022, at approximately 7:50 pm, The Grand Chute Fire Department was sent about 7:50 p.m. Sunday to the 600 block of South Olson Avenue for a report of black smoke and fire inside the home, according to the Grand Chute Fire Department.

Crews fight residential fire in Oconomowoc

Crews fought a fire near Concord and Wisconsin in Oconomowoc early Monday morning. Oconomowoc police said in a statement they are helping the West Lakes Fire District with a residential structure fire at that address. There are some traffic closures due to the fire.

Former Durand Fire Chief remembered

The Durand community is honoring the life and legacy of its former fire chief. Larry “Pit” Plumer led the department for more than three decades. “Pit was a lifelong member of the Durand Fire Department,” said Jamey King, the current fire chief for the Durand Fire Department. “He had 56 years of service.

Bucks donate Thanksgiving meals to Milwaukee firefighters

Personnel from 29 firehouses came to Fiserv Forum to get their turkey dinners. The meals are donated by Gordon Food Service and prepared by Fiserv Forum Executive Chef Angel Otero and his staff.

'Our lives have been forever changed': Waukesha commemorates parade tragedy, one year later

On Monday, Nov. 21, hundreds of people in Waukesha continued the healing process on the one-year anniversary of the 2021 Christmas parade attack. A moment of silence and remembrance ceremony was held at Cutler Park. The ceremony started at precisely 4:39 in the evening, the exact time the Waukesha community was changed forever one year ago.

Child dies after being pulled from burning Milwaukee apartment

A 4-year-old boy pulled from the second floor of a burning apartment building Sunday afternoon has died, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office. Firefighters found the child, paramedics began performing life-saving measures and then rushed the boy to Children's Wisconsin, where he died.

First responders adopt dogs they helped rescue from Wisconsin plane crash

First responders who raced to the scene after a plane carrying more than 50 shelter dogs crash-landed onto a Wisconsin golf course this week have helped rescue the pets in more ways than one. The large twin-engine aircraft, which was transporting the dogs to shelters in southeastern Wisconsin from Louisiana, crashed on the golf course at the Western Lakes Golf Club in Pewaukee on Tuesday.

Nobody Injured After Fire On Second Floor Of Brookfield Home

A fire broke out at a home on Sleepy Hollow Lane in Brookfield early Sunday morning, but nobody was injured, according to the Brookfield Fire Department. It happened around 6:30 a.m. just off Burleigh Place. Firefighters found a fire on the second floor of the home and brought it under control in around 20 minutes, according to a news release.

A dumpster fire damaged the Nitty Gritty restaurant and closed an area of Downtown early Sunday, Madison police and fire authorities said. Officers working the Downtown Safety Initiative and a Downtown beat officer heard a person yelling in the distance at 1:08 a.m. Sunday, headed toward the yelling and found a dumpster engulfed in flames behind the Nitty Gritty, 223 N.

Wisconsin and U.S. flags to fly half-staff to recognize Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy

Gov. Tony Evers ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Monday, Nov. 21 to recognize the first anniversary of last year's Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy. In a Friday, Nov. 18 press release, Gov. Evers's office said that Executive Order #177 is to remember the tragedy and to show respect for the six people who were murdered in the attack.

One dead after Amtrak train traveling from Chicago crashes into car in Brookfield

A person is dead after an Amtrak train traveling from Chicago crashed into a car in Brookfield on Thursday. Officials responded to the area of Brookfield and River roads around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Brookfield police say the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 60s, died. A preliminary investigation revealed the driver had driven around the train crossing gates, police say.

'I thought I got hit by lightning': Middleton business owner in shock after car crashes through her storefront

A Middleton business owner says she's still reeling after a sedan crashed through her storefront on Tuesday. "The car just ran through and I was in shock," said Le Nails Salon & Spa Owner Anna Le. "I thought I got hit by lightning. Glass everywhere and glass start dropping. I was shaking and scared," Le says.
