Madison Fire Department credited an automatic sprinkler with saving the day when the garbage area of a Madison West Side apartment building caught fire. MFD said this shows why sprinklers are an important safety device in people’s homes. The fire, at the 600 block of Sand Pearl Lane, marks the eighth “sprinkler save” in Madison this year, MFD says.

A road closure and an evacuation order have been rescinded following a natural gas leak on Madison's east side Wednesday. According to a Madison Fire Department spokesperson, the gas leak started at about 7:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of Atwood Avenue. The spokesperson said the leak occurred because of construction in the area.

The new Beaver Dam Fire Department training facility is beginning to take shape. Assembly started Tuesday morning at the facility’s location in the 600 block of South Center Street. The building was manufactured in Illinois, where American Fire Training Systems is based. The company designs and constructs fire training towers for departments and military installations around the world.

VIDEO: Mishicot volunteer firefighter John Tulachka was recognized by the state legislature last week for being named earlier this spring the Wisconsin Firefighter of the Year by the State Firefighter’s Association. PHOTOS: A single-family home in Evansville is likely a total loss after an overnight fire, Chief Bob Fahey told 27 News. Rock County Communications told 27 News the call for the fire on the 100 block of North Sixth Street came in around 3:45 Sunday morning. Neighbors helped a resident escape off the roof of a home after a fire Thursday night in Beaver Dam. The report of a porch fire came in to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office around 7:25 p.m. on the 200 block of E. Third Street. The Amherst Fire District has some new digs for work in the field. Firefighters on Tuesday, June 6 responded to the scene of a fire on Meadowlark Road south of County Road J in Sheboygan Falls. In Eau Claire, there's a new chief in town. Matt Jaggar was officially sworn in as the fire chief at a ceremony tonight. Jaggar says the ceremony was emotional and he was touched by the support of the staff and community members. He has served as a firefighter for nearly 25 years now. Firefighters from at least five Dane Co. departments responded early Monday afternoon after a fire erupted in Black Earth, authorities confirmed. Five people in Green Bay are now without a home after a fire Sunday night on Green Bay’s west side. In a release, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department says it was dispatched around 6:15 p.m. to a home at 3033 Sonoran Drive for reports of a garage fire. Upon arrival, crews found a 3-stall garage on fire with heavy flames coming out and extending into the home.
