Mother, two children lose Wisconsin Rapids home in fire

A fire forced a mother and her two children from their rental home on Sampson Street Monday evening, according to a fire department captain. The woman arrived home to find everything black and smoke that burned her eyes in her residence in the 2500 block of Sampson Street, according to records. She called for firefighters at 6:49 p.

Superior Fire Department pays respects to fallen firefighters killed Saturday

The Superior Fire Department joined several Minnesota fire departments and law enforcement agencies Tuesday to pay tribute to two Michigan firefighters killed in a crash Saturday in Blaine, Minn. James Shelifoe, 23, and Alan Swartz, 25, of Baraga, Mich., were among firefighters headed to Utah to fight a wildfire when they were killed Saturday afternoon.

Fire destroys Quality Painters building in Chilton

Firefighters battled a business fire in Chilton. The fire chief confirms the Quality Painters Inc. building on Clay Street was destroyed. No one was killed or injured. The cause of the fire isn’t immediately known and is under investigation. At the building owner’s request, Chief Gary Halbach said, he won’t make any more information public at this time.

Sun Prairie apartment fire displaces eight families

Sun Prairie and Madison emergency personnel responded Aug. 29 to a fire at a City of Sun Prairie apartment building that displaced eight families and caused at estimated $100,000 in damages. Fire Chief Chris Garrison said at 9:05 p.m., the Sun Prairie Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 600 block of Schiller Street.

Officials: Crew was working near site of Fitchburg home explosion

The cause is still unknown, but fire officials confirm an unknown crew had been working near a home in Fitchburg just days before it exploded. Fitchburg Fire Chief Joe Pulvermacher tells 27 News that investigators are trying to determine who this crew works for and also the kind of work they were doing.

Two Injured and Pets Die after Multiple Fires in Fond du Lac

On Friday August 26 at 4:20 PM Fond du Lac firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from the house at 142 Central Avenue. Upon arrival crews encountered heavy fire conditions inside the home which was unoccupied at the time the fire was reported. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire but not before it caused severe damage to the structure and its contents.

Appleton apartment complex damaged by fire

An Appleton apartment complex was damaged by an early morning fire on Saturday. The Appleton Fire Department says its crews arrived at 5:58 a.m. to the 500 block of East Winnebago Street and found smoke and flames coming from the first floor entryway of the two-story complex. A neighbor called 911 and helped firefighters put out the flames using an extinguisher.

Appleton firefighters raise nearly $20,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Association

Appleton firefighters have raised $19,858 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through their annual “Fill the Boot” campaign. The Appleton Firefighters Union Local 257 raised the money with the help of the community. The “Fill the Boot” campaign is a national effort in which firefighters hit the streets and storefronts to collect donations for the MDA.

Explosion destroys Fitchburg home; owner critically injured

An explosion Thursday evening in Fitchburg destroyed a single-family home, displaced neighbors and sent one man to the hospital. The 57-year-old homeowner was conscious when he was taken to a hospital with significant injuries, authorities said. He was in critical condition Thursday night, Fitchburg Fire Chief Joe Pulvermacher said.

New Fire Chief Menches hits the ground running with Holmen Fire

Even before he was officially signed on, Paul Menches hit the ground running as the new fire chief for the Holmen Area Fire Department. Menches officially became the new fire chief at the Holmen Area Fire District Association board’s Aug. 18 meeting. The board announced it selected Menches as the department’s new chief at a press conference on July 13.

Somers fire severely damages home

Fire Chief Mlnarik takes job in Bellevue

After 14 months on the job, chief Jack Mlnarik is leaving the Oregon Area Fire/EMS District. Mlnarik told the Observer Monday that his last day would be Sept. 14. He’s accepted an offer to become fire chief in the Village of Bellevue, a community of about 15,000 near Green Bay. Mlnarik told the Observer that Bellevue is his wife’s hometown, and the couple has always been interested in living and working there.

Crews rescue woman from Pewit's Nest

Unique Milwaukee Firefighter Training at the WE Energies Plant

Milwaukee toddler dies climbing through window

Investigators say there were no adults inside a Milwaukee home when a two-year-old boy died after getting stuck in a first floor window. Firefighters were called to the home around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, after a window closed on the toddler while he was apparently trying to crawl through the opening. Only a group of teenagers was inside the home with the boy at the time of the incident.

Waukesha Looks to Build New Fire Station

By next year, firefighters in Waukesha plan to have equal response times when called out to emergencies. The city council signed off on a land deal to build a new station, which would then mean all areas of the city would be accessible in a 6 minute or less drive time. The new station is set to be built along State Highway 59, just east of County Highway X.

Kids with matches suspected cause of Racine garage fire

Kids playing with matches is the suspected cause of a Wednesday afternoon garage fire at 1214 Illinois St., fire officials said. Racine Fire Department Lt. Scott Sorce said the blaze to the detached garage was reported at 4:07 p.m. Wednesday. Matches are being considered as the cause, Sorce said. Children home at the time noticed smoke coming from the garage, then safely waited for fire crews to arrive, Sorce said.

Families escape fire at historic Oconto Falls building

VIDEO: Crews have a fire at 121-year-old building in downtown Oconto Falls under control this morning. Firefighters responded to the Caldwell House on Main St. late Wednesday night. Overnight, flames could be seen shooting through the roof of the building. Update: Man charged with arson and child abuse in connection to Ten O One fire

VIDEO: A Green Bay man faces arson charges in connection to the fire at the Ten-O-One Club on Main Street in green bay Sunday night. 18-year-old Jesus Castilloveitia-Quinton is charged with three felonies, including arson and child abuse. Capt. Kevin Warych of the Green Bay Police Department says the suspect was in the former Ten O One Club building with some children, when the fire started.
