Police probe fire in Racine home

Police and fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire to break out in a home at 2214 Washington Ave. Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters were called to the scene at 3:30 p.m. after a resident on the second floor reported the carpet was on fire. When crews arrived a piece of burned carpet was lying outside the residence, already extinguished.

Pedestrian critically injured after River Falls highway crash

PHOTO: A River Falls man remained in critical condition Tuesday after being struck by a semi-trailer one day earlier on Highway 35. River Falls Deputy Police Chief Jon Aubart said the 62-year-old man was being treated at Regions Hospital in St. Paul after sustaining life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Town holds groundbreaking ceremony for new Minocqua fire station

VIDEO: Minocqua will soon see a new home base for its fire department. The Minocqua fire chief, town board members, and architects all took part in breaking ground for the new station. The new building will be next to the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce on Highway 51. Fire Chief Andy Petrowski says this new station will not only give the department the space it needs but will help its response time as well.

Bill looks to reduce strain on emergency medical providers’ resources

In hopes to reduce medical and emergency services’ costs, Wisconsin lawmakers introduced a bipartisan bill that would allow the community to provide emergency care. Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, R-Clinton, one of the main sponsors of the legislation, introduced the bill March 17. The bill would set up state expectations for non-emergency health care and was created in collaboration with local emergency service organizations like Professional Firemen of Wisconsin, Loudenbeck said.

Tall order: Milwaukee County firefighters get high-rise training

VIDEO: Throughout the month of April, hundreds of firefighters from every department in Milwaukee County will undergo a four-hour training session on how to deal with a high-rise fire. "One of the more complex fires that we will ever right is a high rise fire," said deputy fire Chief Aaron Lipski of the Milwaukee Fire Department.

2 selected as finalists for La Crosse fire chief

La Crosse’s Police and Fire Commission selected two external candidates as finalists for the city’s next fire chief. St. Paul (Minn.) Deputy Fire Chief Leeland Gilliam, who also serves as the director of Fire and Rescue Training at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, and Brian Lee, who is a public safety promotional and professional assessment consultant, are vying for the position.

New Holstein: Firefighters battle real flames and smoke in hands-on training

VIDEO: It was a rare opportunity for firefighters, as departments from across Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois, came together for hands-on training. Nearly 20 departments got the rare opportunity to practice saving lives, inside a house fire, using a simulator put on by a group called "Brew City Fools," a training group out of Milwaukee.

Person rescued from downtown Madison elevator

One person was rescued from a downtown elevator by Madison firefighters after the elevator malfunctioned, according to a release from the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 8:20 a.m. Friday to the YWCA on East Mifflin Street when an elevator became stuck on the 6th floor. A firefighter went up to the 7th floor and opened the lobby doors there.

Gardner trailer home loss after fire

The Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department responded to a trailer home fire in Gardner Sunday afternoon. The call of a trailer home engulfed in flames at 8919 County CC came in around noon, said BUG Fire Chief Curt Vandertie. The fire department also received a call about the trailer’s propane tank being on fire.

Racine investigators probe cause of house fire

Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused an early- morning house fire Sunday at 2408 Carmel Ave. According to a press release issued by the Racine Fire Department, neighbors heard a noise, then saw an orange glow at the home at about 12:40 a.m. when the call for help was made. The blaze coming from the first-floor bedroom was quickly put out by responding firefighters but not before $40,000 in damage was done to the home.

Fire Destroys Chippewa County Home

VIDEO: A home and attached garage are destroyed after a fire in Chippewa county. It happened in the 15- thousand block of state highway 27. According to chief Dennis Klass with the Cornell area fire department. The call came in from a passerby just after 12:30 this morning. Klass says the buildings had a steel roof, which made it hard to fight the fire because water couldn't get in.

One person dead in Black River Falls house fire

VIDEO: One person is dead following a house fire in Black River falls early Sunday morning. According to the Black River Falls Fire Department, it received a call shortly after midnight for a report of a fully engulfed apartment fire at 1256 Harrison Street. Upon arriving on scene, crews observed heavy fire venting out a large window and the doorway of the one-story multi family wood frame apartment complex.

Three candidates set to interview for Altoona fire chief position

Three candidates are expected to interview for the Altoona fire chief position. This will be the community's first, full-time fire chief. Right now, Jesse James serves as both the police and the fire chief. President of the Altoona Police and Fire Commission Michael Wall said there were nine applicants for the position.

New Chippewa Falls fire station holds door-opening ceremony

VIDEO: A local fire station opened its doors for the first time at its new location. The Chippewa Falls Fire and Emergency services department hosted a door-opening ceremony Thursday afternoon. The new station is located in the 1300 hundred block of Chippewa Crossing Boulevard in Chippewa Falls. The fire chief says there are many benefits to the new station, including a training facility for firefighters and additional space.

Grill likely caused house fire in Eau Claire's Princeton neighborhood

Eau Claire firefighters quickly doused a house fire Thursday evening in the Princeton Valley development on the city’s northeast side. The fire at 4118 Liberty Court was reported at about 6:30 p.m., and the back side of the home was totally involved with flames when firefighters arrived, said Eau Claire fire Battalion Chief Matt Jaggar.

Sheboygan Fire Chief may be tasked with jobs review

Dogs rescued in Green Bay fire, given first aid

Firefighters rescued two dogs — and administered a bit of first aid to them — after a fire displaced a family of four. It happened Wednesday afternoon at 229 Oak Grove Ave. Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded about 4:14 p.m. to black smoke pouring from the front door of the home. Residents had returned home to discover the fire.

Family and first responders recount Poynette incident

Sturgeon Bay Fire Department: Let professionals handle ice rescues

As ice conditions continue to deteriorate the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department is asking people to call 911 rather than try to personally rescue a person or animal in distress. On March 20, Carey Cregan called 911 after her dog, Halas, went through the ice on Little Lake inside Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay.

Fire burns rooms at Country Squire Inn in Wisconsin Dells

A fire Wednesday morning damaged Country Squire Inn on Highway 12 in Wisconsin Dells. The building is at 831 Wisconsin Dells Parkway. Lake Delton fire and police departments were called to the scene. Firefighters at the scene said the fire was contained to vacant apartment units. No one is injured and no one is displaced.
