Fond du Lac Assistant Fire Chief Beer Honored With Proclamation

In some ways Wednesday night’s Fond du Lac City Council meeting looked like a Fire Department mutual aid call. The Council honored Assistant Chief Steve Beer for his 27 years and 2 months with the fire department. He’s leaving to become the Fire Chief in Hutchinson, Kansas. Fellow firefighters from throughout the County attended the meeting for the proclamation.

Holmen fire departments work to hire, retain firefighters

There is a national shortage of volunteer firefighters, but local fire departments are having a hard time keeping paid-on-call and part time workers on their teams as well. The Holmen Area Fire Department's (HAFD) has started a campaign to hire part-time workers, and full-time workers later on this year.

Black River Falls firefighters rescue deer trapped on ice

PHOTO: A deer is freed from the icy water of a Jackson Co. lake thanks to the work of the Black River Falls Fire Department. Firefighters were called to Lake Lee in Millston Monday night for a report of a deer trapped on the ice. Rescue crews located the whitetail deer about 300 yards from the boat landing, partially submerged and unable to get to land.

Search process continues to find Altoona's first full-time fire chief

The Altoona Police and Fire Commission met Tuesday night to discuss the next steps for hiring the community's first full-time fire chief. The position was originally offered to Chad Peterson in February, but he turned it down citing family obligations. According to Police and Fire Chief Jesse James, all or some of the nine candidates will be asked to complete an essay portion of the application process.

Nail Polish Nightmare: McFarland woman 'making nail polish' ignites home on fire

VIDEO: A McFarland woman is lucky to be alive after a scare involving nail polish. In 23-years of fighting fires, McFarland Fire Chief Chris Dennis says he's never heard a call like the one that came in Saturday morning. "This was probably the first and only time we've had an incident where an individual was making nail polish," Chief Dennis said.

Waupun Fire Department to hold open house for Training Tower

VIDEO: The Waupun Fire Department will unveil its 2,800-square-foot Public Safety Training Tower during an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at 903 N. Madison St., Waupun, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 11. “When fire strikes, seconds matter,” explained Fire Chief BJ DeMaa.

Follow Up: Firefighter injured in Burke fire

Sun Prairie firefighters are still investigating a fire Sunday that injured a firefighter in the Town of Burke. Lt. Becky Gruber of the Sun Prairie Fire Department said that on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 6:12 p.m., the SPFD responded to a reported duplex fire in the 5500 block of Larry Lane. When fire units arrived on scene flames were coming from the roof of the one unit, Gruber said, and smoke alarms were sounding.

City of Pewaukee agrees to new fire and EMS agreement with village

Months — even years — of uncertainty over the future of fire protection for the village of Pewaukee were put to rest Monday, March 20, when the common council approved a new fire and emergency medical services contract with the village. The village tentatively approved the agreement earlier this month.

Kenosha firefighter, police get raises

The Kenosha City Council approved across-the-board wage increases for employees of the police and fire departments Monday night. The council approved the 2016-2018 contract with the Local 414, the union representing Kenosha Fire Department firefighters. It also approved a separate resolution increasing pay for non-represented police and fire employees, such as division and battalion chiefs.

Early morning Allouez house fire sends one to hospital

VIDEO: An early morning house fire on Pickard Circle in Allouez sent one person to the hospital. According to firefighters, the call came in at about 5:30 Monday morning, from a person inside the house. That person was transported to the hospital. It is unclear if there are any injuries. When firefighters arrived flames were coming from the first level of the home, but once inside they realized there were also flames in the attic.

Duplex fire leaves Burke family without a home

VIDEO: When firefighters got to the scene flames were shooting out of the roof. It happened in the 5500 block of Larry Lane. According to the Sun Prairie Fire Department, the residents were not hurt, but a Sun Prairie firefighter was treated and released after suffering a leg injury. The side of the duplex the family lives on is a total loss and there is concern from the fire department that the entire duplex could be a total loss.

11 Displaced after Possible Arson Fire in Milwaukee

Eleven people and a dog are displaced after a duplex fire in the 900 block of South 33rd Street in Milwaukee. A CBS 58 crew on scene spoke to someone who lives at the property who said that someone they didn't know broke into the house and started a fire. CBS 58 observed someone being put into a squad car.

Police: Woman rescued from Wisconsin River near Kilbourn Dam after 'letting go' of railing

A woman who fell into the Wisconsin River from the Kilbourn Bridge in Wisconsin Dells on March 12 was quickly rescued by Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton first responders in what was termed a “lifesaving” effort. Clinging to the “cable and barrel” warning system in front of the Kilbourn Dam on the Upper Dells, the woman was pulled from the river by Kilbourn Fire Department firefighters in their emergency boat.

Fire destroys Fond du Lac County barn, pole shed

Multiple fire departments were called out early Friday morning to battle a blaze that destroyed a barn and pole shed in Fond du Lac County. The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. at W9135 Lincoln Road, Rickland Farms, Inc., owned by Gregory and Laura Rickland. An 18,000- square-foot barn and attached pole shed were destroyed.

New chief at Waunakee fire station

A turning point for Gary Acker came after he moved to Waunakee on the eve of the Fourth of July weekend. At work the very next day, many of his co-workers suddenly left. Acker was told, “They went to 614 Fourth Street. A lightning strike.” He replied, “I live there.” He raced home to find a couple of dozen firefighters – some his co-workers – in the house and damage limited to some cracked trusses.

Deer-Grove, Cambridge and Marshall EMS services eyeing merger study

They’ve been talking since 2015 about a three-way merger. Now the Deer-Grove, Cambridge and Marshall EMS services are taking a significant step toward that possibility. In coming weeks, they expect to jointly put out a request for proposal (RFP) seeking a consultant to study the idea. A consultant could be on board this spring.

Brand new firefighting gear is on display in Green Bay

VIDEO: The 49th annual Wisconsin State Firefighters Association convention is being held at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay this weekend, and it's open to the public. Fire station locations discussed at Eau Claire Police and Fire Commission meeting

VIDEO: Locations for a new fire station on Eau Claire's north side was one of the topics discussed at Thursday’s Eau Claire Police and Fire Commission meeting. The new building would replace Fire Station 10, which is located at the corner of Hastings Way and Birch Street in Eau Claire. The city says Fire Station 10 was built back in 1949, and it's outdated.

Light prompts search near Menasha boat launch

Firefighters spent three hours searching Little Lake Butte des Morts early Thursday morning after a police officer noticed a light on the ice near the Ninth Street boat launch. Lt. Pallet of batteries sparks fire in Glendale

VIDEO: Firefighters fought a fire in Glendale Thursday morning. The fire started on a pallet of batteries at Batteries and Bulbs Warehouse, firefighters confirm. People were inside at the time, but they all escaped safely. Elise Preston has more.
