Verona firefighters respond to fire at abandoned house

VIDEO: Verona firefighters and police, along with several other agencies, are investigating a fire in an abandoned house at the corner of County M and Shady Bend Road. Verona Fire Chief Joe Giver says the call came in around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday. No one was living in the home at the time of the fire. Chief Giver says all utilities to the home were turned off at the time of the blaze.

“Extremely cold water:” Milwaukee Fire Department’s Dive Team out before, during, after U.S. Bank Fireworks Show

Driver accidentally hits gas instead of brake while parking, crashes through bank in Kaukauna

VIDEO: A driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal as she was parking her vehicle, causing it to crash through a window at a bank, the Kaukauna Fire Department said Monday, July 3rd. The crash happened just before 1:00 p.m. at Huntington Bank on E. 4th Street near Crooks Avenue.

Price County: Pilot talks about 'weather phenomenon,' then plane drops off radar, killing 6

VIDEO: National Transportation Safety Board investigators said Sunday there was a discussion between the pilot of a Cessna airplane and air traffic controllers about “local weather phenomenon.” Soon after, the aircraft dropped off radar and crashed, killing six. "We're dealing with things that people just don't want to talk about or see," Price County Sheriff Brian Schmidt told local media.

Homicide investigation: 70-year-old man found dead inside Milwaukee duplex after fire

VIDEO: An investigation is underway after a fatal fire early Monday morning, July 3rd on Milwaukee's south side. It happened at a duplex near 28th and Becher around 2:30 a.m. Police say a 70-year-old man was found dead inside the home. At this time, the death is being treated as a homicide. The Red Cross is assisting a family of three after the fire.

Police: Janesville man killed in fire was arrested for OWI 2 hours earlier

VIDEO: The Janesville man killed in a house fire Saturday night was arrested in a drunken driving accident two hours earlier, according to police. A press release from Janesville police says 35-year-old William Russell was involved in a crash at Centerway and Harding streets at around 6:30 p.m. The release said Russell “was impaired by alcohol” but refused field sobriety tests.

Authorities believe arson damaged car on Milwaukee's northwest side

Follow Up: July 1 ceremony marks FT west side fire staffing in Sun Prairie

The Sun Prairie Fire Department will hold a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 8 a.m. at Fire Station No. 2, located at 2598 W. Main St. The ceremony will include Mayor Paul Esser and members of the Sun Prairie City Council. Fire Chief Chris Garrison said due to the growing community, increased call volume, and increasing response times, the SPFD will initiate staffing at Station 2 located in west corridor beginning July 1, 2017.

Galaxie apartment building evacuated, burned food possibly to blame, Madison officials say

The Galaxie apartment building on East Washington Avenue was evacuated Wednesday evening as smoke alarms sounded, with burned food possibly the cause of the smoke. The alarms came in at 6:37 p.m. at the building at 822 E. Washington Ave., the Madison Fire Department said. "Numerous occupants of the building were standing outside as firefighters arrived to investigate," said spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster.

Fire causes $155K damage to Wauwatosa home, lightning suspected to be cause

A summer storm that brought heavy rains and wind to Wauwatosa also likely sparked a fire that caused more than $150,000 in damage to a home on North 63rd Street. At 10:49 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 the Wauwatosa Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 800 block of North 63rd Street. The exact cause is undetermined but likely was started by a lightning strike to the roof of the home, according to a news release from the Wauwatosa Fire Department.

Portage Fire Department wraps up busy June

The Portage Fire Department is coming to the end of a very long month and hoping for the best going into the 4th of July weekend. As of Thursday morning the department responded to 58 calls in June, compared with 34 in May. “It has been a taxing month for us. This is going to be a record month for us,” said Fire Chief Clayton Simonson, Jr.

North Fond du Lac Fire Department launching non-emergency ambulance transport service

Beginning Monday,July 3, the North Fond du Lac Fire Department will be providing ambulance transportation for patients being released from either a hospital to a nursing home or to another hospital for additional specialty care services. “While the department has received an increasing number of requests to provide non-emergency transports in Fond du Lac County, we have unfortunately had to turn down those requests in the past,” said Eric Butler, assistant fire chief.

Sheboygan man ‘obsessed’ with woman is charged in car fire, graffiti case

VIDEO: The 37-year-old Sheboygan man arrested in an arson case involving racist graffiti was allegedly obsessed with the woman whose car was targeted in the attack last week, a man who knew him told police. Chee Moua Lee is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after his arrest this week in connection with the June 21 vehicle fire.

Sun Prairie Fire Department growth talk heats up

One Sun Prairie alder wants to delay expanding 24/7 fire service at a west side station because of high costs and few fires on that side of the city. While daytime firefighters will be staffed at the Westside Community Service Building (WCSB) starting in July, District 4 Alder and City Council President Al Guyant wants to delay a proposal calling for nighttime firefighters at that location by 2022.

Emergency responders train in Viola

Area emergency responders trained for a catastrophic motor-vehicle accident last weekend. The mock disaster, hosted by the Kickapoo Valley Rescue Squad, simulated a three-vehicle crash with multiple injuries. The three vehicles were placed at the corner of North Washington and York Street near the playground and softball diamond.

1 injured after tornado touches down in western Wisconsin; 25 to 30 buildings damaged

VIDEO: An emergency official says one person was injured when a tornado touched down in western Wisconsin, damaging 25 to 30 homes and farm buildings. Gary Brown, emergency manager for Pierce County, says the person was in a barn when the storm hit and part of the building collapsed. The person was taken to a local hospital but no condition was available.

Destructive Oshkosh barn fire caused by illegal fireworks

An abandoned barn in Oshkosh is now a total loss after illegal fireworks were set off next to it on Monday night. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the abandoned barn completely engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no people or animals were inside. "It was pretty obvious that it was caused by people shooting off fireworks in the area, it was actually illegal fireworks in the area, and we found all the empties all over the place so it wasn't that difficult of an investigation," John Holland, public education specialist with the Oshkosh Fire Department, said.

Columbia-Sauk County: Interstate 'two-story' fire destroys cars on semi-trailer

No one was injured but a semi trailer and several automobiles transported by it were severely damage Monday night in a fire on I-90/94. The Lake Delton Fire Department responded to the scene after a call came in at 9:15 p.m., near mile-marker 99.4 in the west-bound lane, halfway between Wisconsin Dells and Portage near the Columbia-Sauk county line, according to Lake Delton Police Chief Darren Jorgenson.
