Follow Up: Man lured kids into Green Bay bar, torched it

VIDEO: An 18-year-old homeless man will spend five years in prison for trying to burn a restaurant down while holding children prisoner there. Jesus A. Castilloveitia-Quinton will spend another 19 years on extended supervision following his prison term, Brown County Circuit Judge Kendall Kelley ordered Tuesday.

Wausau paramedics react to Dallas shooting

VIDEO: In the wake of a shooting in Dallas that left a paramedic in critical condition, first responders from the Wausau Fire Department said the incident reminds them of the potential danger they face on every call. Engineer Kurt Riel said even though the incident happened 1,000 miles away, it still hits home for the 20-year veteran of the department.

Potential second fire station on Beaver Dam's north side gets momentum

Beaver Dam Police and Fire Commission gave Fire Chief Alan Mannel permission to move ahead with preliminary planning for a second fire station and staffing. “I think things will change about 100 times,” Mannel said. In order to possibly cover a second fire station, Mannel wants to hire nine more firefighters.

Portage County woman charged with arson

Instead of allowing the bank to foreclose on her home, a Portage County woman is accused of trying to burn it to the ground. 53-year-old Barbara Maslowski-Day is charged with felony arson in connection with the fire from 2011. A criminal complaint says fire investigators found an accelerant near the source of the fire.

Head-on crash in Rock County leaves one dead, another critical

A Janesville man is dead and a Whitewater woman in critical but stable condition after a two-car, head-on traffic crash Monday on Highway 59, near East Gould Road in the town of Lima, according to a Rock County Sheriff’s Office news release. Remains of 2 people found inside home destroyed by fire, Juneau County officials say

The bodies of two people were found Monday inside a house that was destroyed by a fire late Sunday night, officials said. Firefighters were called at 11:31 p.m. Sunday to a house on Highway 82 east of Elroy. Deputies said a family member of the two people who lived in the home attempted unsuccessfully to get them out.

Tosa fire department quickly controls basement fire at building on Harwood Avenue

A fire that broke out Sunday, April 30 in the basement of a mixed-use building was quickly contained by the Wauwatosa Fire Department. At 10:21 a.m. firefighters responded to a call reporting a fire had broke out in the building at 7463 Harwood Ave. in Wauwatosa. According to a news release from the Wauwatosa Fire Department, the exact cause of the fire is undetermined but is suspected to be related to a light fixture in the basement laundry room.

New emergency equipment aids obese patients in Janesville

The Janesville Fire Department has upgraded its technology and equipment to better help overweight patients and reduce the risk of injury to emergency responders. The Janesville Gazette reports that Janesville ambulances are equipped with power-assisted stretchers that lower and lift. They can be attached to devices in ambulance beds that make helping patients into the vehicles less strenuous.

Milwaukee Fire Captain Charged with Battery, Strangulation & Stalking

Eau Clair 4-Plex Fire

VIDEO: The Eau Claire fire department also responded to a home fire this morning just before 5 a-m. It happened on Hartzell lane on the city's north side. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the windows, and doors of the front of the building. Fire damage was contained to one apartment, but there was smoke and water damage to all 4 units.

Update: Autopsy unable to ID human remains found in Ixonia shed fire, officials say

An autopsy completed Wednesday came back inconclusive in identifying human remains found inside a shed that caught fire Monday morning, Jefferson County officials said. Human remains were found inside a shed that caught fire in the town of Ixonia, but officials are working on additional DNA testing to identify the body, according to a release.

Gateway Technical College, Waterford working on fire training lease

Gateway Technical College hopes to start using the Village of Waterford’s indoor fire training center in the fall for its Fire Medic program if the Gateway board approves a lease with the village. Gateway and the village are currently drawing up a lease for the college to use the training center, a repurposed fire station at 122 N.

Osceola to buy Fullerton property for fire hall

The Osceola Village Board approved the purchase of the former Fullerton Lumber property last week, with the intent of repurposing the site as a fire hall. Madison Police and Fire Commission declines to elaborate on Koval decision

The Madison City Council will have to decide whether or not to reimburse Chief Mike Koval over $21,000 in legal fees fees without direction from the Police and Fire Commission. The city Finance Committee recommended paying fees Koval incurred while defending himself against a series of complaints. But alders questioned the PFC’s language in its decision to not penalize Koval.

Off-duty Milwaukee deputy chief helps prevent woman from jumping off Hoan Bridge
