Two injured after apparent OWI crash in Mount Pleasant

Two people were transported to the hospital late Friday after a vehicle was involved in a serious crash and ended up wrapped around a tree. Police believe alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash. On Friday, at 10:56 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded with the South Shore Fire Department to the 1400 block of Oakes Road following a report of a vehicle crashed into a tree, according to a Mount Pleasant Police Department release issued Saturday morning.

New EMS station coming for South Shore Fire Department

The South Shore Fire Department is getting a new emergency medical services station somewhere on the village’s north side. Money for the station is part of the 2018 village budget adopted Wednesday. The station will cost $500,000, and the department will hire six more paramedics, working two at a time in 24-hour shifts, to respond to calls primarily on the northeast part of Mount Pleasant.

Person suffers broken bones, burns in Lamartine cheese plant explosion

One person was hurt during an explosion at a cheese plant Friday morning. It happened at Knaus Cheese, which is located on County Highway C in Lamartine. The Lamartine Fire Chief tells our Green Bay affiliate that one person was airlifted to a hospital with burns and broken bones. That person is said to be in stable condition.

Sauk City Fire Department gets grant to fund breathing apparatus

Members of the Sauk City Fire Department will soon able to breath a little easier. The Sauk City Fire Department was awarded a $180,545 federal grant toward the purchase of 28 self-contained breathing apparatus, 56 breathing air cylinders and 40 face masks. Granted through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, the apparatus is a device worn by firefighters and others to provide breathable air in an immediately dangerous to life or health atmosphere, according to Mike Breunig, assistant fire chief.

Crews respond to Altoona garage fire

VIDEO: Crews are investigating what sparked a garage fire this morning in Altoona. Fire Chief Mark Renderman says the fire started in a detached garage and spread to the exterior of the house just before noon. He says two people were in the house at the time of the fire and they both got out safely. The chief says there's no damage estimates yet, but the garage is being considered a total loss.

Graduation ceremony welcomes 19 new firefighters to Milwaukee Fire Department

VIDEO: The Milwaukee Fire Department on Wednesday, November 15th welcomed 19 new firefighters. A graduation ceremony was held at the MFD Training Academy near Teutonia and Green Tree. Recruits spent the past 16 weeks preparing for their new jobs. As you can imagine, the training was both physically and mentally challenging.

Competency hearing requested for Milwaukee man indicted for rioting, arson in Sherman Park

A competency hearing has been requested for a Milwaukee man charged with rioting and arson after the unrest in Sherman Park during the summer of 2016 — following the fatal officer-involved shooting of Sylville Smith. The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin announced that 20-year-old Toronse Carter of Milwaukee was indicted on November 7th for rioting and arson connected with the Sherman Park violence that broke out in August 2016.

Wausau: Ex-firefighter wants out-of-county jury

A former Wausau firefighter accused of sexually assaulting a female patient in an ambulance wants an out-of-county jury for his upcoming trial. 33-year-old Clifford "CJ" Heiser argues he cannot get a fair trial with a Marathon County jury. In court filings he is also raising questions about the woman's memory and credibility and contends key evidence against him was obtained illegally.

Lake Helen Pub and Grill in Rosholt destroyed by fire

An early morning fire destroyed the Lake Helen Pub and Grill Tuesday, according to officials. When firefighters arrived at the tavern, 3204 Lake Helen Road, the building was engulfed in flames, Rosholt Fire Chief Neal Simonis said. The business had closed about 10 p.m. Monday and the call about the fire came in at 1:20 a.

Rural fire departments look for new recruits as numbers fall

Darren Jorgenson was making his way out of town to visit with family when his pager beeped. He turned around to see a massive smoke plume. He was miles away from the source of the fire, but he could tell it was big. He rushed back to the fire station and boarded 95-foot ladder truck heading out to the call, the second of the trucks to leave.

Madison Southwest Side duplex fire displaces resident, fire officials say

A Tuesday afternoon fire on the Southwest Side didn't cause any injuries but has displaced a resident, the Madison Fire Department said. Madison firefighters were called to the fire on the 7800 block of Courtyard Drive at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, said Cynthia Schuster, a fire department spokeswoman. Firefighters were met with thick smoke when they entered the building to put out the fire, which was in the basement, she said.

Dodge County Board amends 2018 budget to include water rescue funds

The 2018 Dodge County budget was amended Tuesday to include $40,000 to go to area fire departments for water rescue equipment. The $111.6 million budget requires a $34 million tax levy, which is an increase of $559,000 over the 2017 levy. The tax levy complies with state-imposed levy limits that restrict counties to an increase based on the change in value of net new construction and an allowable adjustment for the previous year’s unused levy of $99,000.

Milwaukee Fire Department donates free winter coats to students

VIDEO: Milwaukee Firefighters will donate approximately 5,000 winter coats to local kids this month. For the sixth year, MFD is working with Operation Warm to provide free coats for children at Milwaukee schools. This year, firefighters will hand out the coats at 11 area schools. On Tuesday, they stopped in for a presentation and coat distribution at Penfield Montessori Academy.

Greenville returns with plans for new fire station

VIDEO: Town officials could ask electors to approve the construction of a new $5.8 million to $6.7 million fire station next year, three years after a larger proposal was soundly defeated in a referendum. Pierce County plow driver spots house on fire, helps owner get to safety

A county plow driver saw a fully engulfed house fire at N7521 Highway 65, Saturday morning, Nov 11. Dispatch sent River Falls Fire Department to the fire at about 6:11 a.m. The plow driver helped the house's owner, Barbara Johnson, get out of the house, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Moody said. He said flames were coming out of several windows when the first fire units arrived.

Firefighters battle blaze at Appleton home

VIDEO: An Appleton home suffered significant damage after a fire Monday night. Appleton firefighters responded to a duplex on the 1500 block of W. Washington Street around 7:30 p.m., said Jeff Felauer, battalion chief. The residents of the home were both accounted for and no injuries were reported. The Grand Chute Fire Department assisted the Appleton Fire Department at the scene.

Firefighter union president expected to announce run for governor
