Task force recommends 5th fire station in La Crosse

The mayor's Fire Station Task Force made a formal recommendation that the city council look at building a 5th fire station on La Crosse's south side. The fire chief says early estimates are that a new station would cost anywhere between $3.

Firefighters battle fire, small explosion at Meijer construction site in Grand Chute

VIDEO: Firefighting units from multiple jurisdictions responded to a fire Wednesday night at the construction site of the new Meijer superstore being built here. Holland still smoldering over fire budget

The Holmen Area Fire District’s 2018 budget has some Town of Holland board members pressing for changes on how they contribute to its funding in the future. Firefighters respond to active structure fire in Monona single family home

Multiple units are responding to an active structure fire at a single family home in Monona. The fire is at 505 Frost Wood Road, according to Dane County dispatch. Smoke is coming from the roof of the home. People were home at the time of the fire when they smelled smoke and called the fire department, officials said.

Firefighters light third red bulb on wreaths after Nekoosa structure fire

Wood County fire departments lit a third red bulb on the Keep the Wreath Green wreaths after a structure fire in Nekoosa. A building on a Nekoosa cranberry marsh caught fire at about 4 p.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and fire spewing from the building; the building was a total loss, said Nekoosa Fire Chief Mike Hartje.

Firefighters break into smoky Downtown apartment; occupant uninjured, Madison Fire says

Madison firefighters had to break down a door Monday night to gain access to a smoke-filled apartment, with the occupant of the apartment uninjured in the fire. The fire was reported at about 6:40 p.m. in the 100 block of North Orchard Street, the Madison Fire Department said. The 911 caller was the tenant, who came home to find the door was locked and secured from the inside.

Walworth Countywide team aims to handle water rescues better

Walworth County has nearly 30 emergency divers who are trained to rescue people when their boat capsizes or they wind up in trouble under water another way. The problem is, those divers are scattered among 14 different fire departments with varied procedures and guidelines for handling water emergencies.

South Shore car fire closes Highway 11

Green Bay firefighters deliver gifts for teens

Fully engulfed: No injuries after garage fire in Town of Plymouth

Firefighters on Monday night, December 18th responded to the scene of a garage fire in Sheboygan County. The call came in around 11:15 p.m. It happened on State Highway 67 near Woodchuck Lane in the Town of Plymouth. As officers were arriving they confirmed that the garage was fully engulfed and spreading to the residence.

Agreement proposes wage increases for Racine firefighters

Racine firefighters will receive pay increases in January and July next year if a proposed collective bargaining agreement receives approval. The city and the firefighters union, Local 321, negotiated firefighters’ wages for the next three years. The tentative agreement would cover the wages of Racine’s firefighters and paramedics in ranks from private through captain.

Altoona proposal would bill nonresidents for costs of emergencies

Bids come in $600,000 to $1 million too high for new Madison fire station

Madison officials are scrambling after construction bids for a proposed Fire Station No. 14 on the Southeast Side came in $600,000 to $1 million over the estimated $5.8 million cost. Miron Construction Co. had the low bid, $6.39 million, while Joe Daniels Construction came in at $6.71 million and Ideal Builders at $6.

La Crosse Fire Station task force weighs need for new fire station

Members of the city's Fire Station Planning Task Force will meet on Tuesday to discuss whether the city would benefit more from a new fire station or a remodel of an existing one. In August, the La Crosse Common Council approved the formation of the task force. It consists of Fire Chief Ken Gilliam along with numerous city officials and council members.

Update: Milwaukee firefighter pleads not guilty to sex assault charge, bound over for trial

35-year-old Michael Peden pleaded not guilty on Monday, December 18th. Peden is a Milwaukee Fire Department “acting lieutenant” who has been formally charged with second degree sexual assault/use of force. According to a criminal complaint, on December 2nd, the victim in this case, a co-worker of Peden, was interviewed by police after his arrest.

Fire damages lower level of Kenosha home at 5402 25th Ave.

No one was hurt in a fire that damaged the lower level of a multiple-story residence in central Kenosha Sunday night. Neighbors reported flames and thick smoke coming from the south side of the house at 5402 25th Ave., alerting firefighters at 7:05 p.m. Kenosha Fire Department Battalion Chief Wes Bernhardt said firefighters fought the blaze in multiple areas of the lower level, including the kitchen and living room area.

2 People Displaced By Overnight Fire in Appleton

A fire on Appleton's north side forced two people from their house Thursday night. Firefighters say they were called to the 600 block of W. Parkway Boulevard just after 6:30. When they arrived, crews could see smoke in the house. Firefighters quickly put out a fire on a living room chair. Other areas of the home were damaged by smoke and heat, and the house cannot be lived in.
