Madison firefighters prove to be fastest at 2019 American Lung Association Fight For Air Climb

The Madison Fire Department took home the medals for fastest female firefighters at the 2019 American Lung Association Fight For Air Climb Saturday afternoon. Firefighters had to climb the 47 floors, 1,034 steps, to the top of the US Bank Center in Milwaukee to raise awareness and funds for the American Lung Association.

Gov. Tony Evers proposes $6.7M for Parkside fire alarm upgrades, Ellsworth plans defered

Gov. Tony Evers is proposing spending spending more than $1 billion of his $2.5 billion proposed capital budget on upgrades for different schools within the UW-System. For the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Evers is proposing spending $6.7 million for a campuswide upgrade of the fire alarm system.

Manitowoc garage severely damaged in fire

A residential garage in Manitowoc suffered significant damage Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out inside of it. Fire crews were dispatched about 4 p.m. to 732 S. 22nd St. for a report of smoke coming from a two car unattached garage, a press release from Manitowoc Fire and Rescue said. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the roof and closed overhead door of the structure, the release said.

Dangerous carbon monoxide levels send Milwaukee family of 4 to hospital

Deadly levels of carbon monoxide (CO) sent a family of four to the hospital. It happened on Milwaukee's northwest side. "They were having symptoms of headaches and a bit disoriented," said Battalion Chief James Hardy, with the Milwaukee Fire Department. A carbon monoxide leak brought firefighters out on a cold day to a home just north of 79th and Hampton.

Two months after their captain's death, Lake Mills fire department keeps memory alive

A man accused of killing a Lake Mills firefighter was officially charged in Dane County Court Thursday. Originally, Cremers was arrested on a tentative charge of homicide by drunken driving. He blew a .079 during a breathalyzer test, which is below Wisconsin’s legal limit to drive. Cremers is now charged with knowingly operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Schulenburg pledges to keep Prairie du Sac Fire Department moving forward

No OWI charges for driver who killed Lake Mills firefighter

The man accused of hitting and killing an off-duty firefighter during a New Year's Eve crash will not be charged with drunk driving. Court records filed Wednesday show that Samuel Cremers will instead be charged with knowingly operating a vehicle while his license was suspended causing death. Cremers allegedly caused the crash that killed Lake Mills Fire Captain Chris Truman after Truman had pulled over to help a stranded motorist along the Beltline.

'Boots vs. Badges': The good guys go head-to-head with the good guys on the court in Oshkosh

In Oshkosh, it was the good guys vs. the good guys Wednesday afternoon. The Oshkosh Fire Department, and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office faced-off in the Boots vs. Badges charity basketball game. But for some, being on the court was foreign to them. “I know nothing about basketball!” said Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz who was also the Badges’ head coach for the game Wednesday.

Janesville company develops glycol-free training smoke

Fire departments train almost every day. “We want the visibility to be what we think we’re going to go into when we go into an actual fire,” said Janesville Deputy Fire Chief James Ponkauskas. “That’s what we’re looking for when we’re training.” While cancer prevention has come to the forefront for many departments battling real fires, Ponkauskas says only recently has the Janesville Fire Department looked at the dangers they face while training.

Pine River firefighters lose everything after firehouse burns down

Firefighters in far northern Wisconsin are living their worst nightmare after their own firehouse burned down Tuesday night. According to a Facebook post from the Pine River Fire Department, firefighters of the La Pointe, Wisconsin Fire Department in Madeline Island lost their firehouse. Initial reports suggest the building and everything inside was destroyed including firetrucks and firefighting equipment.

Gear freezes up during Neenah-area business fire

Firefighters say cold weather caused gear to freeze up as they battled a fire at a Neenah-area business. Crews from Town of Vinland and Town of Neenah responded at about 11 p.m. to a fire at Geffers Construction, 7276 Commerce Plaza Dr. Photos posted on the Town Of Neenah Fire Department's Facebook page show smoke and structural damage.

Milwaukee firefighter hurt while responding to scene near 35th and Hadley

A Milwaukee firefighter was hurt late Tuesday night while responding to a fire near 35th and Hadley. According to the department, crews were responding to a fire in a vacant house when a firefighter fell through a hole in the floor. The firefighter had minor injuries, was treated and is expected to return to work.

Green Bay: 30-vehicle pile-up on Leo Frigo Bridge started with one car hitting ice

A 30-vehicle crash closed a section of Interstate 43 for hours Tuesday morning. Green Bay Police believe one crash triggered the pileup in the southbound lanes of I-43 on the Leo Frigo Bridge, formerly known as the Tower Drive Bridge, which crosses the Fox River. Video released by the state Department of Transportation shows a car spinning out over a patch of ice in the far right lane.

Fire destroys Oneida Village Inn in Three Lakes

A massive fire destroyed the Oneida Village Inn in Three Lakes late Monday night. According to News Watch 12, Fire engines from multiple agencies arrived on the scene as Cassie Stedman watched the inn burn. "A lot of memories, a lot of good times, good friends, family," said Stedman, who has been coming to the Oneida Village Inn for years.

Chronic staff shortages spark investigation in Hales Corners Fire Department

A captain in the Hales Corners Fire Department, who was involved in a January incident in which a village fire engine failed to respond to the scene of a car fire, remains on paid administrative leave after a two-hour closed session discussion by the village’s Police and Fire Commission. The commission held a special meeting March 1 to discuss the employment status of the captain, but it appears commissioners stopped short of firing him, at least for the time being.

A bill aimed to help volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel was unveiled today. Rep. Treig Pronschinske from the 92nd State Assembly District announced the bill at the Town of Pleasant Valley fire station. He says the bill hopes to address the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters and emergency service personnel in Wisconsin.

Weyauwega office building evacuated due to roof collapsing

A building in Waupaca County was evacuated because the roof was in danger of collapsing due to the weight of heavy snow. Assistant Fire Chief Brandon Leschke with the Weyauwega Fire Department said the roof in question was on an office building at the World Class Manufacturing campus. Leschke said workers noticed the ceiling tiles bowing and could hear creaking.

Massive fire burns through Milwaukee apartment building

A massive fire burned through all three floors of an apartment building on Milwaukee's lower East Side. Crews were called to North Farwell and Webster Place around 2:45 a.m. Monday. Fire officials say firefighters spent two hours inside the apartment building, battling flames burning through all of its three floors.

Man and Two Pets Safe After Two Rivers Residence Catches Fire

A man and his two pets are safe after his residence caught on fire Sunday morning. The Two Rivers Fire Department were dispatched to a home on 17th Street in Two Rivers for a kitchen fire reported by the owner of the residence around 9:32 a.m. Firefighters say they arrived to the scene to find smoke and fire showing from the first floor of the structure.
