Milwaukee firefighters install smoke alarms after fatal house fire

Milwaukee firefighters spent Friday morning going door-to-door installing smoke alarms. The campaign to prevent fires comes after a man and 4-year-old boy were killed in a house fire earlier this week. Milwaukee firefighters handed out smoke alarms near 39th and Silver Spring by the house where an elderly man and a child were killed in a fire this week.

1 dead in Dunn County crash

A man is dead after a crash involving a semitractor trailer and a car Thursday afternoon in the Dunn County town of Red Cedar. According to a news release from the Dunn County sheriff’s office: The department received report of a crash at the intersection of U.S. 12 and Highway B at about 3:07 p.m.

Good Samaritan kayaker, Monona first responders rescue dog from icy waters

First responders and a good Samaritan helped rescue a dog from icy Monona waters Thursday morning, officials said. The Monona Fire Department said firefighters and police responded at 10:08 a.m. to the 600 block of Pirate Island for a report of a dog that had somehow fallen into the water and couldn't get up on the ice to get out.

Record flooding in Lodi, dozens of highways closed by high water, people evacuated in Fond du Lac

The rapid snow melt has become too much to handle for many southern Wisconsin rivers and streams, with flooding reported on dozens of highways, people being evacuated in Fond du Lac and at least one record breaking water level in Columbia County. In Fond du Lac, the Associated Press reported workers have helped as many as 300 people evacuate from their homes because of ice-jam flooding along the Fond du Lac River in eastern Wisconsin.

The Fond du Lac Fire Department is working to rescue people from flooded roads and homes near the Fond du Lac River as water rises Thursday morning. Just before 9 a.m., Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue Chief Peter O'Leary confirmed authorities are evacuating an apartment complex situated along the river on Western Avenue.

Fire damages Best Buy store in Village of Kohler, no injuries reported

Firefighters on Wednesday night, March 13 were called out to the Best Buy store in the Village of Kohler for reports of a fire. The call came in around 10:40 p.m. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming through the roof — and the windows were blackened with smoke. Numerous surrounding fire departments were requested to assist.

Three stall garage a total loss after overnight fire in Green Bay

A three stall unattached garage is a total loss after a fire late Wednesday night. Just before 11:30 p.m., fire crews were called to the scene at 1163 Eastman Ave., according to a press release from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. When firefighters arrived they found the garage fully engulfed in flames, the fire department said.

Space heater sparks shed fire in Town of Sheboygan Falls, several cats saved

Firefighters on Tuesday night, March 12 responded to the scene of a shed fire on State Highway 32 in Sheboygan Falls. The call came in around 10:30 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, they observed one of two sheds fully engulfed in fire. There was fencing surrounding the two sheds — and several cats within the fenced area were saved.

Tenants safely escape massive apartment fire in Appleton

An apartment building is destroyed in a fire in Appleton. It broke out around 2 a.m. Wednesday near the 200 block of North Appleton Street. The building's owner says 7 people lived in these apartments and were home at the time of the fire. Fire crews say 8 tenants were evacuated safely. Officials say they believe this is a natural gas fire but they still can't confirm a cause.

Update: No SAFER grant for Caledonia Fire Department

The Village Board on Tuesday denied a request from the Caledonia Fire Department to apply for a grant that potentially could have helped fund the addition of six firefighters to its staff. Instead of authorizing the department’s application for a federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response — or SAFER — grant, the village trustees agreed to create an ad hoc committee to look into various options for financing and staffing at the department.

Fire extinguished at K&S Fuel Injection in Weston

Firefighters have extinguished a fire at K&S Fuel Injection in Weston. The call for the fire came in just before 9 p.m. Monday night. According to the South Area Fire and Emergency Response District, the fire was out within 20 minutes of them arriving at the scene. There's extensive damage to a corner of the building where construction was being done.

White Lake Volunteer Fire Department roof collapses

On Sunday around 8:30 a.m. the roof of the White Lake Volunteer Fire Department in Langlade County collapsed causing emergency response vehicles to be caught underneath the debris. No one was inside the building at the time of the collapse. “It was kind of shocking at first, you think it's never going to happen to your department but it does," stated Allan Holbrook, assistant chief with the White Lake Fire Department.

Caledonia Fire officials say more firefighters are needed, but it’ll be costly

The village has some decisions to make. Representatives with the Red Cross are assisting 12 people, including nine children, displaced after a fire Sunday afternoon. Firefighters responded around 4:15 p.m. to a fire inside the Parker Place Apartments on the 2000 block of Parker Place in the Town of Madison. Verona: Farm Safety Day trains first responders on how to handle farm rescues

Sauk City Fire receives grant to help with water rescues following summer flooding

The Sauk City Fire Department has received grant money to purchase 10 new warm-weather water rescue suits. Assistant Chief Mike Breunig says the suits are necessary to make water rescues safely. "It's just about knowing, no matter what I'm wearing, I'm protected from the water," he said. "That I have the right gear to do my job and not have to worry about not having the right gear when I'm out in the water.
