Fox Valley Technical College assembling 777 for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Training Center

A new training center in the Fox Valley will help future firefighters learn specialized skills. Fox Valley Technical College's Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Training Center opened Thursday. It's the only training center of its kind in the Midwest. It will have two complete airplane props, including a Boeing 777, designed to be used over and over for training.

Effort to rename Sun Prairie Post Office in honor of Fire Capt. Cory Barr passes U.S. House

A bill to rename a post office in Sun Prairie in honor of fallen firefighter Capt. Cory Barr has passed the U.S. House of Representatives. The Senate passed bipartisan legislation earlier this summer to make the change. Barr died when a gas leak caused an explosion in downtown Sun Prairie in July 2018.

Shawano County family loses home in fire

A Shawano County home is destroyed following a fire Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews say it happened at just before 3 p.m. on Oak Lane in the Town of Navarino. It took firefighters about an hour to fully extinguish the flames. However, the house was deemed a total loss. Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Burlington Rescue Squad to disband; call volume, lack of volunteers cited as reasons

The Burlington Rescue Squad will dissolve at the end of the year due to difficulties keeping up with increased call volume and a decline in volunteerism, Mayor Jeannie Hefty has announced. The dissolution will leave the City of Burlington Fire Department to pick up rescue services for city residents, and the Town of Burlington — at this point in time — without a clear rescue and EMS service provider after Dec.

Stone Bank Fire Department to close after more than 100 years

After more than 100 years, the Stone Bank Fire Department will close. The fire chief says the move took them completely by surprise. This comes after the Town of Merton Board decided not to renew its contract with the Stone Bank Fire Department for 2020. "They're not eliminating them, they're just becoming a bigger group, incorporating into a bigger group," said chairman of the town of Merton board, Tim Klink.

Governor signs bill into law ensuring healthcare coverage for families of fallen state heroes

Governor Tony Evers has signed a bill into law that ensures continuing healthcare coverage for the families of fallen state and local law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMS first responders. Earlier this month, the State Assembly approved a bill requiring the state, municipalities, and universities to continue paying health insurance premiums for immediate survivors of those killed in the line of duty.

Edgerton family, pets safe after home catches fire

An Edgerton family and its pets were able to safely escape a house fire. The fire broke out around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the family's laundry room, according to Randall Pickering, the chief of the Edgerton Fire Protection District. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the laundry room, but other rooms experienced extensive smoke damage, Pickering said.

Milwaukee County: Semi fire shuts down I-94 NB at County G

VIDEO/PHOTOS: All lanes on northbound I-94 were temporarily closed at County G Wednesday morning, Oct. 16 due to a semi fire near Oakwood Road. Additionally, two lanes were closed on southbound I-94 at Oakwood Road. The southbound ramp to Ryan Road was also closed. At 10:15 a.m., the interstate reopened at County Highway G in Racine County.

Fox Crossing Fire Department receives federal grant for 24-hour weekend staffing

In an emergency, a quicker response can save lives. Fox Crossing Fire Department will soon be ready to act immediately if something happens, specifically on the weekend. "Our response time is quite a bit different than if someone were staffed here at the station ready to go when the call came in," Fox Crossing Fire Chief Brian Harbison said.

New Auburn woman charged with arson in Barron County court

A New Auburn woman has been charged in Barron County court after her house was fully engulfed. A criminal complaint shows 45-year-old Tonia Morrison has been charged with arson of a building. Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fire on Aug. 12 around 2:25 a.m. where they found smoke coming from the residence as they arrived.

Firefighters respond to structure fire at assisted living facility in Madison

Firefighters responded to a structure fire at a Madison assisted living facility Monday afternoon. Dane County dispatch said nine units were sent to the Sebring Assisted Care Residence in the 7700 block of Brookline Drive at 3:07 p.m. after receiving a report of a fire alarm. Future firefighters to benefit from fallen Appleton firefighter Mitch Lundgaard memorial scholarship

A new scholarship is being offered at Fox Valley Technical College in honor of fallen Appleton firefighter Mitch Lundgaard. As we reported last May, driver-engineer Lundgaard was fatally shot by a man who had a drug overdose on an out-of-town bus at the Valley Transit Center. Lundgaard left behind a wife and three young sons.

Boy struck by Sheboygan garbage truck also lost three siblings in Sheboygan Falls fire

New information about a boy who was struck and killed by a Sheboygan city garbage truck this week reveal previous tragedies in his family. Roman Martin, 9, woke up late for school Wednesday. Man, woman die in duplex fire in Milwaukee

Two people died in a duplex fire Saturday morning near 14th Street and Capitol Drive. Milwaukee police said a 52-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were trapped in the building and were pronounced dead on the scene. Fire crews responded to an electrical call about 6:15 a.m., but noticed heavy smoke when they moved up to the second floor.

Madison Fires first father-son active lieutenant duo, on lessons of selflessness

Madison Fire has the first father-son active lieutenant duo in the department’s history. Friday afternoon, the department honored and promoted 41 people who served in various roles at the Monona Terrace. Lt. Jered Tennant received a pin for his promotion. His father, Lt. Steve Tennant has been a firefighter since 1981 and a fire lieutenant, he says, for about 9 years.

Student winners of Milwaukee Fire Department's 'Poster to Billboard' contest treated to pizza lunch at firehouse

Some students got a chance to check out a Milwaukee fire station Friday. The firefighters at Station 6 on the east side hosted the winners of the department's Poster to Billboard contest. Kiel fire damages barn, machinery shed and garages no one hurt

Fire departments from four different counties battled a barn fire in Kiel Thursday night that also impacted a large machinery shed and two adjoining garages. Kiel Fire Department said in a news release Friday morning that no one was hurt in the fire at 10106 Rabe Road and no animals were inside the structures, which were used for the storage of vehicles and machinery.

Fond du Lac detective, Knowles fire chief honored by Assembly for service

The Wisconsin State Assembly recognized city of Fond du Lac Police Detective Camille Vandermolen and Knowles Fire Chief Bob Belling as First Responder of the Year in their respective districts Thursday. The award is given to first responders who have gone beyond the call of duty to keep local communities safe, according to a news release from state.
