Janesville: Lloyd family proud of three generations of firefighters

Janesville firefighter Christopher “Chris” Lloyd rescued a woman stuck in an elevator a few years ago. The woman noticed the name on his jacket and asked if he was related to Gary Lloyd. Chris responded that Gary, a retired Janesville firefighter, is his father. The woman’s face lit up, and she told Chris that his father had saved her life.

Brown County: Area fire departments ask for donations of masks, gloves, protective gowns

Governor Tony Evers and state health officials gave an update to the COVID-19 epidemic on Friday. Andrea Palm, secretary designee at the Wisconsin Department of Public Health says the state will be getting a shipment of personal protective gear from the federal strategic stockpile, but it won’t be enough to protect all health care workers from the coronavirus if there is a surge in patients.

Milwaukee Co. first responders work to preserve resources during COVID-19 pandemic

In their fight against the coronavirus, Milwaukee County first responders are also battling limited resources. “Our personal protective gear is in short supply, talking about gloves and masks and gowns, and it’s difficult to replace because there is a national shortage," Milwaukee Fire Chief Mark Rohlfing said.

Grand Chute firefighters bring storytine into homes during COVID-19 crisis

With events cancelled, schools closed, and families being told to hunker down and isolate, interaction with others is minimal. The Grand Chute Fire Department, which regularly invites people into its station, is bringing the station to the people. It started with a Facebook post on Tuesday, inviting people to join the Grand Chute Fire Department for a little story time, since the department's community outreach has stopped due to the coronavirus.

Fire causes extensive damage to Fond du Lac duplex, cause under investigation

Firefighters on Thursday, March 19 responded to the scene of a duplex fire on Military Road near Arndt Street in Fond du Lac. The call came in shortly before 3 a.m. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions. The fire caused extensive damage to the two-story wood-frame duplex. The owner of the duplex told officials that no one is currently residing at the property.

Mount Horeb man found dead following house fire

A Mount Horeb man was found dead after a house fire Wednesday morning. The Mount Horeb Fire Department said the fire happened on the 500 block of Linda Road at about 11:40 a.m. Officials said the call came in as a structure fire, and firefighters later received a report of a man who was possibly trapped inside.

Wausau Fire Department plans for COVID-19 spread amid protective equipment shortage

Local fire departments in central and southern Wisconsin are planning to pool resources and assist each other in the event of a serious shortage of protective personal equipment, or PPE. 14 Green Bay first responders under quarantine after traveling as coronavirus spreads in Wisconsin

Fourteen first responders with the Green Bay Fire Department are under quarantine as city officials brace for the new coronavirus to make its way to Brown County. Pleasant Prairie: Village Board approves $800,000 emergency radio communications upgrade

The Village Board approved a $800,000 proposal to upgrade an aging emergency police and fire radio system in an effort to enable better communication coverage. On Monday, the board voted unanimously approving a contract with Baycom Inc., which upgrade the system to simulcast very high frequency radio signals from four sites: Roger Prange Center, police headquarters, on Green Bay Road; the Sheridan Road tower; Doubletree Inn; and a water tower near Premium Outlets Currently, the system relies on a signal transmission from a singular site at the Prange Center.

Wildland fire contained at Memorial Park Sunday

A wildland fire at Memorial Park was brought under control on Sunday afternoon by the Red Wing Fire Department and other agencies. The department sent a news release Sunday evening stating, the agencies responded within six minutes to the fire and extinguished it within an hour. Approximately five acres of wildland burned as a result.

Sheboygan family displaced after fire

Residents of a home were displaced after a fire early Sunday morning. The Sheboygan Fire Department received a report of a structure fire around 4:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of North 13th Street. Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the front porch when they arrived. They extinguished the fire outside before going into the building, according to the fire department.

How cities like Janesville are operating during COVID-19 while still providing necessary services

Weinbrenner Shoe Co. employees and Merrill firefighters honored for saving man's life

After one of their coworkers went into cardiac arrest this past Tuesday, a few brave men and women stepped up to save his life. Gas leak forces evacuation of Fontana Elementary School

Fontana Elementary School was evacuated and classes were canceled today after a natural gas leak caused by two faulty boilers in the building. The leak was first detected at about 8:15 a.m. by custodian Scott Linhart shortly after students had filled the school, which serves about 200 children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

Merrill Fire Department training helps Weinbrenner Shoe Company employees save coworker's life

A Merrill man is expected to make a full recovery after his coworkers performed the first aid that saved his life. Local firefighters who responded to the incident Tuesday and provided the first aid training used that day have now been recognized for their efforts. On March 10, an employee at Weinbrenner Shoe Company went into "full cardiac arrest" according to Safety Director Robert Watry.

Fire Departments prepare for COVID-19 in Stateline Area

Stateline Area fire departments are prepared for outbreaks of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Rock County in Wisconsin and Winnebago County in Illinois. No confirmed cases have been reported in either county as of Thursday afternoon. The Beloit Fire Department is one of multiple Rock County agencies coordinating a response plan with the Rock County Health Department in the event of any outbreak.
