Fire displaces Kenosha family

A house in the 7200 block of 39th Avenue in Kenosha is uninhabitable as a result of smoke damage sustained from a fire that started early Friday night on a mattress in a first floor bedroom. The Kenosha Fire Department was called to respond to the structure fire at 6:15 p.m., Battalion Chief Jeff Johnson, said.

One person displaced after fire at Green Bay apartment building

A Saturday morning apartment fire on the city's west side has left one person without a place to live. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded around 11 a.m. Saturday to an apartment building in the 1500 block of Capitol Drive in Green Bay for a report of smoke in the building's hallway, according to a news release from the department.

I think that all the equipment and big trucks are really cool,” Participant Jack Jansen said. 10-year-old Jack Jansen is spending his Saturday learning about police officers and firefighters. Jansen said he has dreams of becoming an officer one day. "My dad is a firefighter and he has some connections with police officers,” Jansen said.

Bellevue Fire Department seeing positive impacts of 24/7 staffing

We first told you in August about the Bellevue Fire Department's plan to move to 24-7 staffing. South Milwaukee firefighters rescue ‘Tuff’ the bulldog from icy waters of Lake Michigan

A 12-year-old bulldog lived up to its name on Friday, Jan. 31 -- after being rescued from Lake Michigan by the South Milwaukee Fire Department. Tuff apparently ventured out onto some ice to retrieve a stick and fell through the ice and into the frigid water. Officials say he was reportedly submerged for ten minutes or more.

De Pere: EMS providers learn advanced skills to treat injured police K9s

Two fire departments in Northeast Wisconsin are now among an elite group of agencies statewide. They have paramedics trained at the advanced level to treat injured police K9s. Demand has grown over the last two years after state lawmakers passed a bill giving paramedics the ability to treat injured animals.

Oshkosh firefighters rescue puppy from icy Fox River

The Oshkosh Fire Department rescued a puppy from the Fox River at about 8 a.m. Thursday. Witness video shows a crew member holding a puppy while being pulled from the icy water with a rope system. The puppy apparently got away from its owner, as it was wearing a harness, collar and leash, Oshkosh Fire Department Public Information Officer John Holland said.

Humane Society praises Waupaca Fire and Police for quick response

The Humane Society of Waupaca County is praising the Waupaca Fire Department for their quick response to a call to smoke in the building Wednesday. The Humane Society posted photos and the story to its Facebook page. On Wednesday, the staff noticed smoke in the building and called the Waupaca Fire Department.

Milwaukee Police Department: Reckless driver crashes into fire truck near 27th and North

Milwaukee Police say a reckless driver crashed into a Milwaukee Fire truck Wednesday night around 9:51 p.m. Authorities say the car was driving 70-80 miles per hour with its lights off when it hit a MFD truck that had its emergency lights and siren on. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg.

Overheating machinery causes brief evacuation at Central High School in Paddock Lake

Students at Central High School in Paddock Lake were briefly evacuated from the school Wednesday morning after machinery in the shop area of the school began smoking, setting off fire alarms. Salem Lakes Fire Department Assistant Chief James Lejcar said the department received the call at 9:04 a.m., with school staff reporting smoke in the building, 24617 75th St.

Waupun considers EMS study: Fire chief urges citizens to reach out

Elk Mound pole shed considered total loss after fire

Fire officials say an Elk Mound pole shed is considered to be a total loss after a fire fully engulfed the structure. 4 Wausau Firefighters honored with Valor Award

Four first responders with the Wausau Fire Department were honored with the Valor at City Hall on Tuesday for their swift response during the shooting at Pine Grove Cemetery back on October 3, 2019. Mayor Robert Mielke says because of their selfless actions more lives were saved. “I believe in my heart that employees should be recognized for the good they do in the community,” stated Mayor Mielke during the City Council meeting before the awards were given.

Howard Fire Department to get its own fire training facility

The Howard Fire Department can often be found at the former Farr's Grove Supper Club, doing training. “It's probably the best training, because these are the kind of buildings we might have to actually fight a fire in,” said Training Lieutenant, Chris Hohol of the Howard Fire Department. The department often relies on donated buildings like this to do its training, but soon it will have its own facility.

Seven residents displaced after fire on Green Bay's east side

A fire inside an apartment on Green Bay’s east side displaced seven people Tuesday evening, authorities said. Firefighters from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to a two-story house in the 800 block of North Webster Avenue and saw smoke and flames coming from the back of the building, according to a news release.

Milwaukee: 3 hurt after car crashes down embankment during suspected chase

Officials say three people have been taken to a hospital after the car they were in crashed down an embankment during a police chase. The crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on South Layton Boulevard near the Mitchell Park Domes. A fire official said the car went down an embankment just short of the bridge.

Cause of Wood County shed fire under investigation

Two firefighters received minor injuries following a two-story shed fire Monday in Wood County. The fire was reported around 9 a.m. on the 9000 block of Ader Lane in the town of Richfield. The building had extensive interior damage and the contents had severe smoke and heat damage. One firefighter was injured by snow falling off the roof onto the firefighter and one was struck in the wrist by something that fell from the second story.

Rock County: New tech helps 911 center send closest ambulance, fire truck

When an ambulance or a fire truck responds to a call, it might be from another jurisdiction. Four Rock County fire departments are using technology to dispatch the closest available emergency services vehicle. The four departments are the City of Beloit, Town of Beloit, City of Janesville, and Milton and Milton Township fire departments.

La Crosse Fire Department extinguishes Rose Street house fire

A house fire broke out in La Crosse Monday afternoon. The fire department responded to a 911 call shortly after 3 p.m. regarding a fire at 213 Rose Street. Firefighters responded to the scene within two minutes and saw smoke from the eaves and chimney. The department described the fire as a "difficult" one to find as it had entered the crawl space and spread throughout the house.

Wood-burning chimney starts sawmill fire in Lake Tomahawk

Firefighters responded to a sawmill fire in Lake Tomahawk shortly before 9 a.m. Monday morning. According to Lake Tomahawk Fire Dept. assistant chief Mike Carlin, a break in the sawmill's wood-burning chimney caused the fire. Due to the structure of the building, the heat was trapped in the attic and firefighters were able to completely extinguish the fire in about 30 minutes.
