Racine Fire Department's Mobile Integrated Health home visits turning into virtual visits due to COVID-19

A program conducting home visits with vulnerable patients after they have been checked out of the hospital is doing its best to go online, both for the sake of the paramedics and patients. Racine’s Mobile Integrated Health program went into a trial phase in the fall of 2018 and was fully implemented in 2019.

Madison house ‘uninhabitable’ following north-side residential fire, officials say

Madison firefighters responded Friday to a house fire on the city’s north side just after 5 p.m. According to an incident report, the Madison Fire Department received a call at 5:02 p.m. regarding a house fire at 1022 Reinke Drive. Fire officials said neighbors reported seeing flames at the back of the home and saw the residents escaping.

La Crosse Fire Department maintaining social isolating while protecting the community

The La Crosse Fire Department is dealing with the impact of the coronavirus. Staff are isolating from one another to avoid a potential spread of the virus. And some rescue crews are operating 24 hours a day at the La Crosse Center as well as Central and Logan High Schools to help limit contact between firefighters.

Milwaukee's first coronavirus victim was a retired firefighter and father figure to many

Lawrence Riley was a bear of a man who was brought down by coronavirus. The 66-year-old retired firefighter died last week after a three-day stay at Froedtert Hospital, where he'd been admitted for respiratory failure and tested positive for COVID-19. He died of complications from the virus on March 19, making him the first Milwaukee victim of the disease.

Chemical fire at Carboline quickly extinguished by Green Bay Firefighters; One person injured

A chemical fire at Carboline, a chemical manufacturing facility in Green Bay, was extinguished in less than 20 minutes by fire crews. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department told Local 5 that crews responded to a structure fire just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Once the responding crews learned the fire was within a facility with combustible liquids inside additional alarms were called due to the nature of the hazards involved.

Man dies after breaking through ice while trying to save dog in Waupaca County

Sheriff’s officials say a man has died after he broke through the ice on a pond in Waupaca County while trying to rescue a dog. Dispatchers received a 911 call about a man in distress on a pond on private property in the Town of Weyauwega Wednesday afternoon. Sheriff’s deputies and Weyauwega police and fire responded.

Menomonee Falls is looking for a new fire chief after retirement of its interim chief

With the retirement of Menomonee Falls interim Fire Chief James Mollet, the police and fire commission planned to meet March 26 to take possible action on designating a replacement interim chief. "We need to move quickly to have a permanent (fire) chief for the long term and to move quickly in the interim," said Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald.

Madison Fire Department: Laptop sparks west side fire

Firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a structure fire started by a laptop computer. According to an incident report, firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of South Westfield Road for the fire, but were told that a laptop had been on fire and removed from the building. The report said there was smoke in the building after the fire was extinguished shortly after 10 a.

Beaver Dam Fire Department sets up 'bear hunt' for safe outdoor activity

Bear hunting season has arrived in Beaver Dam and no license is needed. Emergency responders in the Beaver Dam Fire Department have organized an effort to display bears, of the stuffed variety, around town to encourage families to safely enjoy the outdoors during the “stay-at-home” order aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus in Wisconsin.

Kenosha man charged with attempted arson, possession of molotov cocktail

Nathaniel Presterl, 19, of Kenosha, was charged Tuesday with attempted arson and possession of a molotov cocktail after he allegedly attempted to set a relative’s home on fire. Presterl was arrested at about 1 a.m. Tuesday outside a house on the 2800 block of 27th Street. Residents of the house called police after seeing him in the yard pulling burning material near the house.

South Beloit: Fire departments plan measures to protect staff in event of COVID-19 exposure

If you see a recreational vehicle (RV) at the South Beloit Fire Department, don’t worry—staff aren’t planning a vacation. The RV is the department’s extra unit to be used in the event of staff needing to be quarantined during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. South Beloit Fire Chief Mike Davenport said the department has yet to order any staff on quarantine, and said staff are taking extra precautions to disinfect and sanitize equipment.

Emergency personnel in Baraboo and Portage adjust for COVID-19

Police investigate possible link between Stevens Point fire, car chase

Authorities are investigating whether a house fire and a car chase that occurred early Monday are connected. Emergency crews responded to a report of a structure fire near the 700 block of Smith Street around 6 a.m. Monday. Reedsburg law enforcement, paramedics ready to respond in emergency in COVID-19 outbreak

While officers on the Reedsburg Police Department and paramedics with the Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service are taking necessarily precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic, they are ready to respond in an emergency. Reedsburg Area Ambulance Director and Emergency Management Director Josh Kowalke said dispatch is helping ambulance staff by screening people with a list of questions from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention anytime an ambulance is requested.

Follow Up: Neighbor Smelled Gas Before ‘Explosion,’ House Fire In Kenosha

Firefighters worked to put out flames at a house fire in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Sunday morning. Electrical wires could be heard popping, and bright lights flashed as crews fought the blaze. A person living near the house said there was an explosion, and right before that happened he smelled a gas leak outside the house near 79th and 30th.

House fire in Spring Brook Township leaves one dead

A house fire in Spring Brook Township Sunday afternoon left one person dead. The Dunn County 911 center received a call around 12:55p.m. on Sunday with reports of a house fire on County Road E. There were six people in the house when the fire started and five people made it out safely and are being treated for smoke inhalation.

Milwaukee's first coronavirus death takes Navy veteran, former Milwaukee firefighter

A former Milwaukee Firefighter and Navy veteran lost his battle with the coronavirus, after falling ill last week. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner said 66-year-old Lawrence Riley died this week after testing positive for the coronavirus. Family says he leaves behind his wife, six kids and eight grandchildren.
