New information about a boy who was struck and killed by a Sheboygan city garbage truck this week reveal previous tragedies in his family. Roman Martin, 9, woke up late for school Wednesday. He grabbed his bike to ride the two miles to St. Paul's Lutheran School and was halfway there when he was hit.

Man, woman die in duplex fire in Milwaukee

Two people died in a duplex fire Saturday morning near 14th Street and Capitol Drive. Milwaukee police said a 52-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were trapped in the building and were pronounced dead on the scene. Fire crews responded to an electrical call about 6:15 a.m., but noticed heavy smoke when they moved up to the second floor.

Madison Fires first father-son active lieutenant duo, on lessons of selflessness

Madison Fire has the first father-son active lieutenant duo in the department’s history. Friday afternoon, the department honored and promoted 41 people who served in various roles at the Monona Terrace. Lt. Jered Tennant received a pin for his promotion. His father, Lt. Steve Tennant has been a firefighter since 1981 and a fire lieutenant, he says, for about 9 years.

Student winners of Milwaukee Fire Department's 'Poster to Billboard' contest treated to pizza lunch at firehouse

Some students got a chance to check out a Milwaukee fire station Friday. The firefighters at Station 6 on the east side hosted the winners of the department's Poster to Billboard contest. Students from various Milwaukee area schools created artwork depicting this year's theme -- "Not Every Hero Wears A Cape, Plan and Practice Your Escape!" It was one of many events that took place during Fire Prevention Week.

Kiel fire damages barn, machinery shed and garages no one hurt

Fire departments from four different counties battled a barn fire in Kiel Thursday night that also impacted a large machinery shed and two adjoining garages. Kiel Fire Department said in a news release Friday morning that no one was hurt in the fire at 10106 Rabe Road and no animals were inside the structures, which were used for the storage of vehicles and machinery.

Fond du Lac detective, Knowles fire chief honored by Assembly for service

Rhinelander firefighters teach fire safety to elementary school kids

Tuesday the Rhinelander Fire Department taught local kids fire safety. Firefighters came to classrooms at Central Elementary school to give presentations on fire safety. Kids learned how to draw escape plans for their homes and received fire safety tips. A 5th-grade teacher at Central Elementary school, Sarah Lange said it was a great learning opportunity.

Madison: Two people injured after vehicle fails to stop, resulting in crash that turned vehicle on its side

Two people were injured in a crash on Londonderry Drive Monday around 11:50 p.m. According to a Madison Fire Department release, one of the cars was returning from the airport when another vehicle didn't stop at an intersection. The crash caused the vehicle to turn on its side. As the vehicle was resting on the driver's side, Engine 10 firefighters cut the windshield to access those in the cars and opened the moon roof.

Eau Claire: Fire Prevention Week educates families on fire safety

A statistic released by the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs says in 2017 more than 1.3 million fires killed 3,400 and hurt 14,000 more. According to the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation, fire departments in the U.S. respond to more than 1,000 home fires each day, about one every 86 seconds.

Firefighters with the Milwaukee Fire Department are investigating after a car crashes into a Goodwill Monday evening. Police say they responded to a crash at 3900 N Palmer Street around 5:15 p.m. A car slammed into the front entrance of the Goodwill, injuring the driver. The severity of the injury is not known at this time, but the driver declined medical attention.

Waupaca County deer crash fire comes as state warns of darting deer

A car caught fire after a collision with a deer in Waupaca County Sunday night. This comes as the state reminds drivers to be alert for an increase in deer activity. Students visit Milwaukee's Survive Alive House to kick off Fire Prevention Week
